I am trying to set up skype on the new Incredible 2 so I can make skype video calls. After set up I was able to make a call but have not been succesful making a video call. Any suggestions?
Thank you for your inquiry. The Driod Incredible 2 does have a front facing camera, but is unable to use any video calling. Verizon Wireless and Skype are working on a new service for 4G LTE Smartphones that will enable video calling. The application will be called Skype Mobile with Video. While Skype Mobile with Video won't be available when the first 4G LTE Smartphones launch, we continue to work together to deliver the application as soon as we can, but we don't have a specific date to share at this time.
I'm having the same problem - the voice comes through - but not a picture or video. . .
Are you sure the Skype app for Android phones is capable of doing video calls? I know that Skype with video was supposed to come on the Thunderbolt, but I haven't seen the official application yet. Maybe it is not available for the HTC Droid Incredible 2 yet either.
EdW_VZW....you failed to mention that the Incredible 2 is NOT a 4G phone...so it doesn't matter.

Yeah Ed, that wasn't very helpful. Since I don't have the TB (and don't want it), I don't really care what it can do. But what good is a front-facing camera if you can't use it for video calls (well, I know you can use other apps, but really, why not Skype?)? Will skype video calling work on wifi? And why will Skype work for video calling on the VZW iPhone but not on Android OS?
The only reason I have not demanded a different replacement for my Thunderbot is the fact that the leaked Skype w/ video apk works amazing and I use it daily to talk to family on their pc. I have considered the Dinc 2 but fear if I jump ship from the Tbolt the bugs will be worked out the next day. My point being that the fact that I have gotten a leaked version of a video chat app that works far better than tango or qik leads me to believe the hold up is Verizon. They supposedly pulled Skype from the Tbolt before launch for unknown reasons but I can say the leaked Skype w/ video has less bugs than the Tbolt in general so the fact they pulled an app from a flawed phone and still released the phone means their probably trying to figure out how to block it to wifi only or charge us for it.
I just purchased an Incredible 2 today. My husband purchased his last week. We were told in the store that we would be able to use Skype for video calls. He works on the other side of the country and that was the main reason we purchased these phones. Are you saying that the sales rep completely told a lie? If I can't use Skype mobile or another program for video chats there was no reason for us to purchase these phones.

It seems that way, at least currently. Or more likely, the Verizon rep had no idea what he was talking about, and was trying to make a sale.
I don't know if it's a lie as much as it is just being ill-informed. If a device has a front-facing camera, a reasonable person may naturally assume there's an app that allows for video chat.
I'm sure we will soon have options for this, or there would be a lot of angry Inc 2 owners.
Our store representative provided accurate information as your phone will be able to establish video chat connections once the Skype with video application is released. While the Skype with video application has not been released at the present time, you can use other third party video chat applications from the Android Market for video chat connections.
Please keep in mind that Verizon Wireless does not support third party applications and you must contact the developer for any troubleshooting if necessary. As a personal experience, I can share that Tango application will work fine with your phone for video chat connections. You can try other third party applications if this one does not meet your expectations. Again, this is just a personal recommendation based on my own personal experience and not a recommendation by Verizon Wireless.
Being Ill-informed is apparently very common then. Verizon needs to do a better job of educating their employees, apparently.
I was told specifically that the Skype Mobile app on my Incredible 2 would allow video calls. This was after I asked a direct question to that effect. I knew the video calling issue was directed for 4G and the Thunderbolt and was surprised when the in-store rep told me the DINC2 could have video chats with the Skype mobile app.
I asked, "So the Skype app already allows video calls?", He said "Absoutely". I was skeptical, but I had already pretty much decided on the DINC2 anyway so I didn't worry about. I was unsurprised when it didn't work.
My husband and I purchased the Incredible 2 yesterday. Our first question before we made our decision between that and the iPhone was if we'd be able to do video chat with Incredible 2, as he's at work 48 hours straight. We had 2 Verizon sales rep tell us yes and with Skype. Now that I'm home and I've been playing with the phone for a day, it doesn't work. And then I get on here and read that Skype Mobile is not video capable on Incredible 2. I'm VERY irritated right now; it wasn't just 1 employee that told us you could, but 2!! If you're not sure about it, ASK. Don't tell a customer something just to make a sale.
I was not aware that the droid incredible 2 could not skype video calls, as a matter of fact it is advertised in verizon, I just purchased mine and received it today. Please take a look in the ads and tell me if this is incorrect, if so this would be considered at the ver least false advertising.
I fell prey to the same sales MISINFORMATION, in Grand Rapids, in July. After three weeks of trying I went in to see why I couldn't get it to work, and the sales representative told me the other rep was mistaken, and it was too late to switch phones. I've just downloaded Tango and hope my family members will oblige with downloading it also.
Yep, I'm video calling using version 2.1.046.
Eureka! The community contributions gave me what I needed to know. I downloaded regular SKYPE from the website, went into the menu and chose video call, and it works, even though it cautions that the quality may not be good.
I'm happy and satisfied! Thanks to those who made suggestions. (I went to the 8 am traiining at the store last week and the trainer did not know how to make it work.)
Skype Video Instructions:
1. Your Incredible 2 must be up to date with most current Verizon Update, Android 2.3.3.
2. If you are using the pre-installed Skype Mobile app: Quit using it.
2. A. Launch Skype Mobile app > Settings > Uncheck Sign in Automatically.
2. B. Launch Settings app > Applications > Manage Applications > Skype Mobile > Clear Data.
3. Download & Install Skype app From Android Market.
4. Launch Skype app (Not Skype Mobile).
5. Go To Settings, Check "Enable Video Calling".
6. If You get a warning that your device hasn't been certified, just ignore it. The HTC incredible S has been certified and the HTC incredible 2 is very similar.
apparently skype is saying you need a 4g phone to do the video call and the software update is coming soon.
but my son found a site where we tested it and it works just fine on the htc droid incredible 2 which is not a 4g phone.
use ooVoo instead of skype. it has video chat for any phone that is capable.
www.oovoo.com
First, how do I find out if I have the latest update for my incredible 2?
I did everything that you said to do but I can't find settings once I launch Skype? Is there a reason for that? Please let me know how to find this so that I can make the video chat work.
Thanks a million for posting the solution! I too, purchased the Incredible 2 for the ability to Skype, and have not been able to until now.
so is tango any good the sales men told me i could video chat with my GF whos in HW but come to find out they were wrong i traded in my fascinate in hopes to get video chat they talked me out of the iphone. i've had nothing but problems with the verzion in my town maybe you guys could train them a bit better
