Not quite the way things were supposed to go today.....
I suppose this is of no real importance other that to describe how my anticipation of the Gingerbread update turned against me.... Early this morning, I set about doing a factory restore on the phone, hoping to avoid any potential issues with the update should it hit my phone while I was traveling this weekend. This Droid X has been as near perfect as a phone could be ever since I bought it last July. However, much to my dismay, when the phone rebooted from the factory restore, all it did was show the blue triangle, then shut off. Ohh, noo, I'm supposed to be traveling this morning around 11am, so this ain't good. Try as I might, I can't get anything else out of the phone. Sacre' Bleu, this can't be!! Well, it was, so I gathered up my traveling stuff and headed out early to hit the Verizon store by 9am sharp in hopes of NOT having to travel without a phone. My CS buddies at the store pulled everything out of their bag o' tricks, but we couldn't get the phone to come to life. This was covered under warranty, but there were no Xs to exchange. Nor were there any in the area. I thought and thought and thought...... Then I did the only thing I could have to save the day in the manner I needed... I used an upgrade on another line to buy a Droid X2. Of course, everyone said under their breath, "just get your repaired or exchanged, take care of the X2, and return it before the 14-day return period is up". However....after having played with this phone for most of the day.... I'm gonna keep the X2. It's pretty cool, after all. Very snappy. Odd screen that I have gotten used to. Nice changes to the user interface. And other stuff that I'm sure I'll run across.... But this isn't the best part.... Around lunch time, I'm digging around in my "ditty" bag, for lack of a better term, and there sits the old X. Powered up. Screen on. And asking to be activated. And I didn't tell a soul why I was laughing so hard for the next several minutes. I activated the Droid on an un-used under-contract line and it has been working fine all day. Still is. I guess some days are like that. And yes, I'm keeping the Droid X2. Some days, ya just gotta say "What the hell" (or whatever favorite expletive one uses these days). I'm still chuckling and thankful I've had a couple of really good months of work. Geri "Ginger-WHAT?" O
