A few Moto Droid Questions

Verizon just replaced my crashed eris with a Moto Droid. What can I expect out of this phone? Am I gonna run into major issues like my Eris or should I be in the clear on this one? Verizon told me that out of all the android devices the Droid was its most relieable. The phone I recieved is a certified "like" new device. I'm not expecting this thing to go over smoothly. But I wanted some other opinions.

That was nice you got a Motorola Droid instead! I wouldn't expect you to encounter the same issues. Did you go through warranty exchange or insurance?

Without knowing your prior experience, here's what I've experienced with the 'not a business phone' M Droid:

- frequent random dialing

- phone locking during calls

- contacts and calendar doubled

- typing inconsistencies - virtual keyboard

- unnecessary applications draining battery (use Advanced Task Killer)

- touch response inconsistency

- marketing applications popping up during important email and phone calls.

After years with a Blackberry, I find the Droid a hobbyist phone. If you want web browsing, music, etc. and other non-business use, it may work acceptably.

Hi. Congratulations on your Motorola Droid! I have had this particular phone since the morning it was launched and I haven't had any issues with it myself. This is coming from a "heavy" users. I browse the web and use multiple apps throughout the day. One thing I would suggest is that you download an "App Killer" in the market so that way you can stop the applications you are not using from running.

I'v Never had a problem yet! I'v owned a MotoDroid for 8 months (purchased Dec 2009) and I love it! Never crashed or done anything strange. I cant wait until the Andraid 2.2 comes out!. I'm still learning new tricks with it. sometimes I just cant put it down.

Verizon replaced my Touch Pro 2 (after a replacement) with a Motorola Droid when I begged and it is WAY BETTER than the TP2. It's a fast OS, steady and rarely needs rebooting. The internet is sick and really fast and its a very useable phone. Mine's been awesome and mine was a refurb.....and it works great. I think you'll be happy with the Droid!

i have had my droid almost since day one. the only problem i ever had was that my Droid had the bad habit of attracting the tires of 30 to 50 vehicles as it laid in the street helpless.

i had the chance to convert to the incredible but stuck with the droid. it's a fantastic phone.

-i have never had random calling (download Not Call Log)

-never experienced double contacts or calendar entries

-Virtual keyboard is a learning process but sucks if you have fat fingers

-phone has never locked up during a call, but i always make sure my proximity sensor is clean

i was once a hardcore advocate of the task killer app, it worked great for me but for the last couple weeks i have uninstalled the app and my droid has not experienced any problems like undue power drainage. this app is more of a security blanket, your choice.

you might also look at the plus side of this exchange in that it has been noted on other sites that the Eris is not inline of receiving the Froyo update. it has been deemed a discontinued phone. so moving to the Droid, which should get it by the end of this month or early next month, you will be able to see the true capabilities of an android phone. however, the Droid is not scheduled to receive the Gingerbread update at the end of the year because of cpu speed.

Thanks for all the replies! I wish I could say i had no issues with this phone but my luck must have ran out these days.

Here goes my list:

right out of the box the phone seemed great until I got my first call. phone rings I answer no problem. Tried to put the phone on speaker and realized that the phone will not wake up no mater what. Only way to get the screen to light up was to slide open the phone and then i had about ten seconds before it locked it self again.
If someone was to hang up before me (which was everytime because I could not wake the phone to end the call) the phone would stay locked and nothing not even the lock button would unlock the phone. When its like that you can not power off the phone without removing the battery.
the factory music app runs all by itself draining the battery. Even after manually stopping the app the music player still plays in the background. Nothing I can do but watch my battery dwindle.
the ear piece and the mic went out. I can only have talking conversations on speaker phone and they can barely hear me that way.

I really like the style of this phone but I am really geting fustrated with verizon. All I need is a phone that works. I am recieving another Droid tomorrow via fedex and there is a software update launching tomorrow as well from moto to clear up the mic and ear piece problem. They claim its a hardware issue and not a mechanical one. We will see.

Thanks willanaya !!!!! I pushed the 2.1 to my phone I was a dork and didn't write down the apps that I loved and NEEDED. I was racking my brain and even talked with a verison store and they couldn't give me a remedy for the call log issue. I had the not call log before and just couldn't remember the name..

I haven't had any issues other than the call backs, some tinneyness on phone calls and thats about it...

I would like to say pretty much any replacement you'll be getting from them sounds like it is bad out of the box Jroberts238. My mother in-law has the crappy LG EnV touch and the replacement was bad out of the box, we took it to a store here in Citrus Heights Ca and DAVE helped us... What a JACKWHOLE, sent us away and said nothings wrong ahhhhh, the screen dims and doesn't come back unless you open the dumb phone and the browser will completely reboot the phone when you try and open it. THANKS DAVE !!! Oh Sorry ... He made me very angry and now we have to order another phone and hope it works.

I am now on my 3rd, yes that's my 3rd Motorola Droid. My first one made random calls on its own. It could be sitting on a counter, light up, then start dialing and everyone complained they couldn't hear me. Oh, and the screen would lock.

The second one constantly hung up on people - even on speaker phone, the screen would lock, and everyone complained I sounded muffled and they couldn't hear me.

The third one...everyone complains they can't hear me. I had to start using skype to make my calls because I realized people couldn't hear my phone number when I left a message. My business is Executive Telemarketing. I have to have a phone works. I have had to borrow my husband's old phone to use for calls if my computer isn't available. This is ridiculous!

I spent hours on the phone with tech support personnel and was told each time that they didn't have any complaints about the microphone quality. Then I find out from the stores that it's a known issue. Not good guys.

I had a friend who had to exchange his because his email was constantly disappearing from his phone. He says this one works well.

Hello, I know I'm a little late. But I've had the Motorola Droid for a months now and I love it. I seen that you had to comment, One from a apparently avid BlackBerry person and one from a Verizon techy. Well, Me personally I hated the blackberry because it is an email phone, basicly. I use my Droid for business (I'm a skin care therapist, so I have a client base to maintain) and home. I wanted a phone that could do both. It is easy to use and you can usually fix any initial problem you might have. My friend has an eris and he wished he would have gotten the phone like mine, it is faster and a lot less complicated he said. I just love the ease of use. You can find an app for everything in the Market from Documents to silly games. Hope you love it as much as I do.
