Computer won't recognize phone

I got a new phone last week.  I can't get my computer to recognize my phone.  I downloaded V Cast Media Messenger and followed all of the directions I can find in the user manuals.  I connected the phone as a USB device andmy computer shows that the hardware is attached (drive F) but when I open VMM it doesn't show my phone on my left hand menu.  Help!  What am I doing wrong?

You can slide down from the top notification screen to connect. The option should offer charge only or mount as drive – choose mount as drive.  Thank you.
