Battery Life Very poor..

Is 3.5 hours the best I'm going to get from my Thunderbolt?? Bought it for my wife and I just had to trade with her and I gave my Incredible to because it got so bad for her. I've had it for a little more than a week and it doesn't keep a charge past 10:00 am without any apps running. Took it to the Version store and they said there was nothing wrong. The phone is always dead when I need it the most. It was rebooting itself until I downloaded the latest update. What's the next step??

it depends on how you use it.....but 3 hours is pretty absurd. make them give you a new battery to try. hopefully it's just a bad battery. look through this forum and you'll find plenty of threads on the issue. androids have poor battery life in general....but the tbolt is no worse than most of the others. i actually get slightly better life out of my tbolt than i got out of my incredible. i get about 3 hours of real use with 10-15 of idle/standby time....so if i take it off the charger when i leave the house, it will go all day (unless for some reason i am using it for more than 2.5-3 hours during the day). sounds like a bad bettery. also, try turning off the 4g radio (use an app from the market called "LTE OnOff"). i get about half of the battery life when i leave 4g/LTE on.

Thank you to the community for your comments. You are able to use Android's built-in battery usage screen to see what is using your battery the most. Please go to Settings –> About Phone –> Battery use . You may notice that reducing the backlight may save you on battery life. Below I have provided an illustration.

Additionally, If you’ve got loads of widgets that are pulling data from the web, that means they are likely pulling down data in the background all the time. Please remove any widgets you are not using. Please note that they will still be included in your applications, they will, however, no longer be listed on the home screen.

Condition the Battery:

Step 1: Keep the phone on and charge it to 100% and the LED light should turn Green (if you must download batterylife from curvefish @ the market)

Step 2: Keep the phone plugged in and turn off the device. You should see that the LED is back to Orange. Once it is charged fully you will see that the LED will go green once again.

Step 3: Keep the phone plugged in and turn it on. The LED will be orange again and battery should show you around 96 to 97%.

Finally just let it charge to 100% and you should be good.

I use to only get about 4-5 hours of battery life even with a full charge. Once i conditioned my battery I have been getting somewhere close to 36 to 40 hours of battery life.. sounds absurd but its true and make sure not to leave your brightness settings on auto!

I turned off background data and even turned off the auto-sync within the system settings. Left it on 4G, at one of the lowest possible brightness settings and battery life depleted by 25% within a half hour. So 25+% gone for every half hour leaves me at three hours at the MOST. This is with very light usage. A little Facebook browsing within the app, and a little browsing through the stock Android browser. The battery continued to deplete just as fast without browsing at all in standby mode. Switching it to 3G seemed to have no effect whatsoever. This phone is the worst at battery life I have ever experienced as far as being connected to Verizon's network. However, Wi-Fi seems to get me through a full 6 or 7 hours with light to moderate use. So I use Wi-Fi at home, and switch to 4G when not home. You bet your tail I do have a car charger, and I travel to work with my wall charger. Something is telling me that there's an issue with 4G/3G coverage OR the 4G equipment inside the phone.

It will tell you that the display is using the most power 99% of the time when in fact this isn't the case. Unless the phone has a manufacturing defect which causes the LCD screen to continually draw power, something's wrong with the power usage stats. At least on my phone, that is...

I love the dialogue that is being provided on this topic. I would like to add some additional info on how to save battery life. I have noted some steps below.

1. Disable Bluetooth, Wifi, & GPS when not in use.

2. Turn off the vibration when typing on the virtual keyboard.

3. Turn off 4G service - I recommend this if you are NOT in a 4G area or don't do a lot of uploading & downloading.

A. Dial *#*#4636#*#* & call.

B. Select Phone Information

C. Change preferred network type to CDMA auto (PRL)

If you decide to turn 4G back on, simply follow the same steps & select CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto from the list.

Mime loses a lot when rebooting. 20% everytime. I only lose of if I power it off reboot shutoff etc. Lasts 3hrs with 5 reboot.

I have the same issues. I bought two batteries thinking it was the battery. The battery use for this phone is a complete JOKE. By the time you turn everything off or disable the majority of the prime features to preserve the battery life you might as well buy an ordinary flip phone. I bought a 4G for 4G services and I'm supposed to revert to a 3G to preserve battery? Really. I have the display light set so low I can't see it half the time. I'm extremely disappointed with this phone's battery life and having to turn things on as I use them all the time - and even at that rate, I have never had more than 6 hours of battery life even if I don't use it at all. I carry more chargers than anyone I know. I haven't downloaded many apps either and got rid of the ones mentioned above. I can't block texts/calls either without paying an extra fee or going back to the website to renew this so-called block list every 3 months that doesn't work. I can't wait til my contract is up. SOOOOOOOO not worth $110/month.
