HTC Thunderbolt Power Cycle Issue Fix

Please someone tell me when the update with the fix for the power cycling issue on Thunderbolts will roll out. I was told by someone at Verizon that it would be the end of June... Hello.. This is JUNE 30th and NO update so far.. The rebooting is annoying and irritating and embarrassing when I am on a call. Unacceptable.. Verizon should have at least made it right and offered us another, comparable droid phone and not forced us to renew our contracts to do it. This is not our fault. This is the SIXTH Thunderbolt I have had. The THIRD one in the last three days. The problem seems to be getting worse.. Hurry up with the fix or at least offer me another phone. This one is useless.

I totally agree I've been hearing it would be fixed ASAP and was told the end of June and still no update. I'm very disappointed in how they've handled this problem and not satisfied at all. I'm also tired of the constant reboot and constant trips to the store and also constant loss of 3g service.

I agree, I heard the June 30 rumor too and held out some hope. Its now July and the rebooting continues. This is unacceptable!

July 1st, 2011, approx. 11:30a, I was told by VZW support (take w/ grain of salt and all that)

1. The update was actually supposed to be released 2nd half og June/2011

but HTC has not released it yet.

2. Verizon front loads all the uninstallable bloatware garbage, so they send it

to HTC, HTC compiles it into the update, then pushes the complete update

back to VZW for distro.

3. The latest date given to the poor **bleep** that work for these clowns

is July 15th.

4. No compensation is being offered to suckers like us that paid

for the most expensive phone they have, even tho over the past 2-3

months, the phone has not worked as advertised or promised.

The reason? "Thay have a fix in progress".

I wonder if I can skip my bill for 2-3 months and tell them,

"I have cash, in progress, so chill and you'll get it soon enough".

So there you go..

TL ; DR

Verizon says go **bleep** up a rope until Mid-July and if HTC has

sent us our bloatware infested update by then, you'll get it.

Funny, because VZWSupport replied to a tweet that I sent them saying that it is development now to resolve the issue and the official release date is not available. I think the worst part, for me anyway, is that there is no clear answer of a plan on how or when this issue will be resolved.

In my job, the two things that both Verizon and HTC are doing that confuse me are that they are not communicating to their customers and they are taking a ridiculous amount of time to come up with a solution. I agree that we don't want them to come out with a sub-standard product as that is what brought us here, but my turn around time with a program concern is five days. Flat!. Any more than that and I will be looking for a new job because the industry standard is five days or less. Now, I'm in the manufacturing and production industry but I wouldn't think that the people that manage their development teams are very happy about any of this if they care at all. I mean, they've made their money from us so the incentive isn't amazingly high.

tl;dr

Both VZW and HTC need to come up with something soon and need to let customers know what to expect. No need for secrecy.

They made the inital profit yes, but you have to know it is hurting name recognition for both parties...they want it resolved as bad as you do

I understand your frustration over this issue and having multiple replacements. We do not have any dates for the software release yet. Any dates mentioned are just rumors and even if we were to guess at dates, those can change at any time. The last information we received internally is that the fix is being regression tested, and the resolution will be in the next software release. This information was received today. I apologize that I don't have any more information.

Every month it changes move it out a month now mid July. I can't do anything but replace it get very bad. It is so easy for Verizon to say wait but it is hard to tolerate. Yes its a good phone so I'm not quiting on it but we should get something for tolerateing the bad ones. Verizon U keep on sending out ones with it I dont know why but it is getting to much as well as very untolerable. Some reps don't know its a problem but it should be known by now. Is it true
4g hotspot $30 for unlimited? 3g phones desirve something great too. We will know tomorrow.

I've just about had my fill of this crap. Poor signals, device that re-boots or turns completely off and no idea when a fix is coming.

vereyezuhn it wasent a rumor. I called tech support and whoever they talked to over HTC that it was fact also there was info on it that the only thing us to replace it if its bad or wait until hopefully there was a fix mid June. I'm sure I did see that info plastered somewhere and u can look at it. Droid life I think had it.

Its very annoying when my Phone shuts off by its self at will, Its my only Phone my land line was shut off last year to save money

and my main issue is IM a Police Officer so IM always on call its kind of hard to receive a call when the phone is off and I have no idea that it shut off. The Update is out because I tried to update it to day and that failed twice today and when I called Verizon Wireless. They told me I had to wait tell they pushed it to my device. So my main question is when will it be pushed to my phone?

I talked to them today about another issue and was told that it could take a week or more to get the update pushed out to everyone. I was told they are doing it slowly to see if the first recipients start reporting problems instead of pushing it out all at once. I was told that you'll see a small Android icon in your status bar when it is pushed to you. At least that's what I was told. Others have probably gotten different stories.

I just updated my phone with an update from Verizon, 1.70.605.0 from the software updates section of Settings.

I think this is the new update for the power cycle/reboot problem.

Just got off the phone with VZW support rep. My original reason for calling was that my phone wouldn't make a data connection at all today, no 3G, 4G, nothing. In fact it looses data coverage often in the same exact locations that I had no problem in with my original Droid.

I had already power cycled multiple times, changed settings, and hard reset before I called. Not sure what the rep did, but once she had me power cycle, 3G came back. She then notified my there was a currently a 4G problem in my coverage area.

The second reason for calling was this power cycling issue. It happens to me 3-4 times a day, sometimes when texting, sometimes when accessing facebook app, and often when on a phone call. She said that a fix is supposed to be pushed sometime in July, but no confirmation beyond that. She offered to replace the brand new Thunderboldt I have with a certified used phone. Uh... what?? How is that a resolution to a software issue? And why would I even consider replacing a brand new phone with a refurbished one??

To make matters even more interesting, I got the automated follow up call asking me to take a survey. During the end when I was leaving my voice comments... guess what? My phone power cycled!! Ridiculous. This software problem needs to be addressed immediately. Otherwise, if it is a hardware problem with the Thunderboldt, they need to offer us a NEW replacement of an equal or superior 4G phone on the market. A refurbished replacement of the same faulty phone is unacceptable. Very unhappy about this.

to be fair, most of them are not having problems, so replacing it seems like the logical step. mine has never rebooted, and most of the (over a million) tbolts don't have the issue. we see the ones here that have the issue. the majority of the users don't have a problem and have no reason to even visit a forum. if you troll around androidpolice, phandroid, xda, etc, etc...you'll see many users that have no idea what the reboot problem is. if they can't fix your phone and couldn't tell you when an update was coming, then i think trying a replacement is a fairly logical attempt at a solution. also, when this problem initially started, many people were replacing devices and recieving the CLNR's that had not installed the May update (which caused the problem). i saw a lot of users ask "how do i go back to the old software...before the update?" well, they could attempt to by getting a CLNR (as many of those had not recieved the update yet).

Sorry to the people who don't have it. But it us so great to actually have a day without rebooting. I wish it had gingerbread it didn't really change the incredible 2. I feel like I'm missing the desktop app.

I agree with you. Verizon Tech Support offered me two phones (2 of my 5 lines have T-Bolts) with the older software on it. I said no thanks. The problem is with the existing software and not the phone. So Verizon & HTC need to fix software.

It's a shame that we are paying top dollar for wireless service and not receiving complete service for our money due to these software problems.

I was told 6/30/11 for the software fix by Tech Support. That date came and went.

The 7/8/11 update did not fix my two major problems (rebooting & audio).
