Best Non-Smartphone with Smartphone Capabilities?

I know this question probably comes up ever so often, but I didn't see any posts about it since late 2010.

I'm looking for a phone that will be able to check social media and email, but that is about all I need as far as extra features. This is mostly temporary until I can get a new phone in January, I'm just sick of my POS Eris for now. It doesn't have to be a new product, even an old classic will do. I realize that some require a $9.99 monthly deal for data, that is fine. I just you know, want to be able to answer calls, and send text messages without my phone freezing up. But I'm kind of hooked on being able to check email and Facebook anytime I want.

I would actually kind of prefer a flip phone, not sure if any flips match what I'm looking for though.

Oh one more thing, battery life is important. I'm over having to charge my Eris all day long.

While it isn't a flip phone, the Samsung sch-u370 is pretty good. it's a touch screen slider with a 3 inch screen so you'd have a fairly decent screen to work with for internet. You'd have to buy it from Bestbuy or Costco or something though as Verizon doesn't sell quality phones that don't require a data plan anymore.

Try the lg Cosmos touch.

it is a bigger screen and is capable of web acces with at physical keyboard capability.

You will need to have a data feature added on the phone for $10.00 for 75 mb per month.

One answer is the LG Octane which I have and love. So as to not repeat what I have said before, see my other posts within the last few minutes in this same board.

I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion. There are lots of nice feature phones that do not require a data plan, but optionally can use the $10 75MB data plan. I can point to my new LG Octane for one.

As an aside, I finally "caved" on getting a new phone when my wife got an Octane after having a 2004-vintage LG VX6100 all these years.

OK I realize the Octane is at least a decent phone, but compared to some of the feature phones of the past it really isn't all that special. Plus it's super quiet so if you can't hear well you're going to miss a lot of calls. And if you'll notice Verizon has renamed their "feature phones" to "basic phones". Verizon customer's have been complaining for a while now that their feature phones didn't really have any features, and Verizon responded by simply renaming the phones to "basic phones", which looks to me like a sign that the phones are going to get more and more featureless.

Sure the Octane is the best feature phone that Verizon offers in it's stores right now, but I'd definitely take the Samsung sch-u370 over it any day of the week- and it's a phone that ISN"T offered by Verizon, even though it's better than all the phones they sell now. So what would you think if a company quits selling a phone that's still popular in favor of lower quality phones?
