best basic phones that avoid pocket dialing???

I'm looking for a good BASIC phone that has a GOOD, RELIABLE locking feature that is easy and quick to activate so the phone does not pocket dial. even when cases are used, buttons still get pressed and activate many phones. I will be using a holster with belt clip. I would like to avoid flip phones due to texting ease of keybds. any suggestions?

Honestly, my first thought when I read the subject line and before I read the post itself was "Flip Phone!"

I am not real familiar when the QWERTY feature phones in Verizon's lineup to give you a reasonable answer.

Take my opinion for what it's worth.... but I think touch screen phones are usually phones with pocket dialing troubles. The LG Octane has solid external buttons and I don't think it's likely to pocket dial. It also has what I think is the best qwerty keyboard right now. The buttons are large whereas a lot of other qwerty keyboard phones have cramped and/or small buttons. The internal screen is also pretty nice on the Octane. You could also try the LG Cosmos 2, but I don't have any personal experience with that phone and I prefer the Octane's keyboard and displays.

I have the LG Octane and it is IMPOSSIBLE to pocket-dial. The regular telephone-like keypad is on the outside (when the "flip" is closed) but unless you turn off the keypad lock feature -- which by default requires you to press the OK button twice to do anything else -- the keypad is protected when the "flip" is closed. The only thing you can do is press Send to answer a call. You can also set the keypad lock to require just one press of OK, or as stated turn that lock off.

Otherwise you can open the phone and have a full QWERTY keyboard and all functions. My wife and I have each had one since last month and I think it is a GREAT phone. Hint: check the price at amazonwireless.com where I got mine.

Avoid the Cosmos 2 and Cosmos Touch - they are both preloaded with the "Daily Scoop" which was nothing but problems. It caused the phone to light up on and off during the night draining the battery and lighting up the room. When I would go to use the phone, many times it would be on the "browse and download" screen. There were also pop up screens trying to get me to view the Daily Scoop. I replaced the Cosmos Touch with the LG Octane which is not preloaded with Daily Scoop. There is no pocket dialing and I have the clip on holster for it. Works great.

Support Tech told me there is no way to remove the Daily Scoop but not all phones are preloaded with it. Make sure you go to a store and look at whichever phone you want before you purchase to make sure the Daily Scoop isn't preloaded. I have found that there are a lot of techs and even Verizon store sales people that aren't familiar with the Daily Scoop. A support tech gave me incorrect information. They told me the Daily Scoop was not preloaded on the Cosmos 2 but luckily I went to the store to double check for myself and there is was!

I owned a pretty simple Moto flip phone for a long time, but recently "moved up" :smileyhappy: to a Cosmos LG 2, which is not a flip phone, and thus, could be susceptible to pocket/butt dialing. But in fact, it's not.

Here's why: Out of the box, this phone is configured with Keyguard Auto Lock enabled. What this means is that as soon as the screen goes blank (due to inactivity), the front keys are automatically locked. Once the keys are locked, most of the front panel is dead until OK is pressed or the QWERTY slider is opened. Note that the SEND key and the 2 soft keys are unlocked if an incoming call is received in "lock" state.

I could not find a setting that controls when Keyguard Auto Lock engages, but it is apparently tied to the phone screen's backlight. From what I can tell, Keyguard Auto Lock engages 5 seconds after the screen's backlight first dims. Coincidentally, the screen goes black 5 seconds after the backlight dims. I have configured my backlight to dim at 15 seconds, so my phone's numeric keypad auto locks after 20 seconds of inactivity.

TL;DR -- with Keyguard Auto Lock enabled, it's very difficult to pocket dial the LG Cosmos 2.

Following up on my previous post....

If you don't want to wait for the LG Cosmos 2 Keyguard Auto Lock feature to automatically lock the front panel, Keyguard locking can be manually forced (on this phone) by pressing and holding the 0 (zero) key for about 2 seconds.

In case you didn't notice I answered similarly about the LG Octane just yesterday morning.

As far as finding all the Keyguard settings, it is very easy on the Octane from either the external or internal keypad. From the external press OK twice to unlock (unless you've changed from the default); then press the OK key (again), then the left key, and Keyguard Settings will be option 1. Press OK again and the choices are 1. Lock Now, 2 Keyguard Timer (Always off, 7, 15, or 30 seconds); Unlock options (Press Once, Press Twice); Lock Options (Keypad Only, Keypad & Phone).

Since that is easier than using the internal pad, I won't go into that now.

Pressing the Zero (0) key on the external keypad locks the keypad, but if it is set to automatically lock at 7 seconds, why bother? I'm thinking of changing to 15 seconds.

The Keyguard Settings options are different for the LG Cosmos 2:

1. Auto Lock (On/Off)

2. Unlock Options (Press Once/Press Twice)

3. Lock Options (same as LG Octane).

Thank you for the information about the pocket dialing issue, and your suggestions. I would also like to assist you with the portion of your posting that mentioned the Daily Scoop. I have provided you with some information below that I think you will find helpful.

As you mentioned, the Daily Scoop application cannot be removed as this is preloaded. However, if you do not want to receive these daily scoop messages, they can turn off or unsubscribe using below method.

Turn off Daily scoop message setting:

• Launch Daily Scoop
• Select ‘Menu->Options->Verizon Msgs’
• Choose ‘Off’ and ‘Save’.

• Repeat the same procedure for ‘Menu->Options->Bonus Msgs’

This will turn off the messages from the Daily Scoop. I do hope this information is helpful for you, and have a good day!
