Transfer pictures taken by the phone camera

I took pictures for the first time with this phone. With past Android phones, I simply copy the jpg files off the phone SD card onto the computer. When I try this with the Droid-X, I can't open the jpg, I get an error message that the files are not in a jpg format that the files start with the wrong binary code. I know I can e-mail them to myself but when I try that I get a message that the image is to large and will be resized. I want to transfer the image to my computer full size. The SD folder that they are located in is DCIM so that appears correct.

Any suggestions please?

This is no solution, but I transfer jpgs from my phone to my work and home pc regularly. I don't use the menacing VCast "tool" either.

After the pc recognizes the "drive" in Windows Explorer, open it and then DCIM and Camera. Highlight the files, right click "copy" and move them to the drive and folder on your pc..

If you are doing that, no suggestions why it isn't working.

That's really all there is to it -- plug the USB cable into your PC and drag & drop the images from your DCIM folder. Strange that you can't open them. Are they in fact JPG's when they end up on your PC ? I have never heard of this issue. Which Camera App are you using to take the pics???

Maybe you copied as shortcuts instead of the file format, does the file have .jpg or .jpeg at the end of files when you look at them on pc?

Also do not drag and drop, try selecting all images you want and copy and paste because sometime this causes issues.

I am using the camera app that came with the phone, the icon looks like a camera. The photos have a jpg file extension in the name. I have tried to open the pictures in a variety of apps in both Windows 7 and Linux with the same results. The images are about 2mb in size so they are the photos and not shortcuts. The camera really does seem to be saving the photos in a non standard format but labelling it as a JPG. Does anybody have a solution to this problem?

This is whats confusing, you are speaking about how the phone is reading the files but then you talk about opening them on a PC... What is unclear the method of how you are coping files from device to PC before you attempt to open them and get the error you reported.

What method are you using to move the files from phone to PC?

If you have your actual gmail account on your phone, you can also put the pictures in an email and either save it as a draft or email them to yourself, then you can just go to your computer, open the draft or email and they are there for you. I do this all the time, but if you have ALOT of picturs it probably won't work. I do it with no more than 5 pix and it works find for me

I am doing it exactly as you say. I plug the phone into the computer by usb cable. The SD card then mounts and I do an "edit-copy" from the card then an "edit-paste" into a computer folder. The file has a JPG file extension and is about 2mb but it is not a jpg.

I can e-mail it to my e-mail account but a warning pops up that the file is too large and the file size will be reduced. I would will do this one at a time if I have too but it is tedious and I would rather not lose quality.

Strange, does the files open fine on the device?

What happens when you mount the drive and instead of copy have you tried the open option?

Another question, have you tried to right click and select "open with" option and select Paint from the list?
