HTC Incredible Reboot Issues

At the risk of hijacking another users thread, I created one for my own issue (albeit being the same issue as other users).

My DINC has begun what seems to be an unending cycle of cyclical reboots. The issue initially started when I was using Google Maps for navigation. I would fire GMaps up, and within a few minutes it would reboot, and continue to do so until I pulled the battery, and toggled off GPS.

I brought it into a VZW store where they mentioned trying a hard reset to which I replied that it was something I tried due to another issue I was having a month back (the HTC clock widget kept syncing to Sarajevo). The rep simply stated again, that a hard reboot would likely solve my issue. The reboots ceased, but I also stopped using the GPS Navigation (which really isn't much of a solution).

This week, however it has become extremely unstable. Last Friday, while simply surfing the web my phone went into a reboot loop. Once again, I pulled the battery to stop the reboots. I let it sit, powered it back on. I opened up Gmail, and blam, the phone began rebooting again. This happened 7 times before finally stopping. I stopped by a VZW store hoping that I could possibly get a refurb phone to replace my dinc. I was told that my 1 year manufacture warranty was op and my only option was to upgrade (or find an old VZW phone to use). Not ready to give up, I did a hard reset one more time (didn't expect to help, but what the hell) and this time I wasn't even finished setting up my Google account sync when it rebooted. After coming back up, I decided to continue on, and update the existing app base (Facebook, GMAIL, maps etc). It then decided to reboot in the midst of downloading these updates. I did notice that the battery heats up quite a bit during any network activity. So, my question to the other DINC users out there, has anyone been successful in "solving" this issue with a new battery?

I tried a new batt, and new SD card, just to narrow down the issue, even factory reset and rooted with diff ROM. same problem.

Its a hardware issue, if your under warranty get a replacement.

I had the same issue, any time you tried to use data, bam...reboot.

I got a replacement, and Ill be **bleep** if that one did not do the same thing...so got a 2nd replacement and its been going good for a month now.

When you call it in, big red will act like they have never heard of the issue, even though its posted all over the their forum??

EDIT...sorry did not see your 1yr was up, mine was to, but I went with 2yr warranty.

Ct29, I definitely understand why this would be a frustrating issue having your phone power off on its own. Normally we would replace the phone thru warranty, especially since you have multiple reboots. We are working on a software update for this phone, so hopefully that will address your reboot issues. Do you know exactly when you bought the phone?

Can you tell me when this software update might come out - like others on here, i've been struggling thru this issue for a couple of months, same probs, same lack of any of the fixes lasting long.

I could get a 'new' refurb same phone but that doesn't seem to work for others, stand to reason that the supply of refurb phones is mostly made up of those with this same problem given that it has bee a problem for over a year judging by the volume and dates of the posts on various forumns.

This is neither Verizons nor HTCs finest hour for customer satisfaction!

These issues sound like hardwre failures to me. Some phones have had bootloop problems due to faulty connectiors on the mainboards that fail over time due to thermal fatigue. I was also thinking this could be a virus infection but someone said he flashed his ROM and the bootloops continued indicates to me this is not a software problem.

These carriers and OEMs need to start implementing recall programs with service bulletins like the car companies do.

Thank you for responding to my thread, as I mentioned earlier the manufacture warranty is up for my phone. I have no delusions about receiving a new phone after a warranty up, however the only responses I've received has been "upgrade" or "find an old phone". However, I'd like to at least receive more help in troubleshooting the issues. I will be calling the tech support line this weekend. However, based on some of these responses in the forums from other users, have left me a bit underwhelming with the possibility of any help from the Big Red. That being said, I will still be calling to see what can be done.

As far as recent events, data use has been unstable at best and seems to the trigger for the reboots. Google Maps can only run for about 2-3 minutes before the phone reboots. I have also found that opening multiple web pages in the browser can cause a reboot. Lastly, updating multiple applications through the Market also triggers a reboot. I feel that these three events/situations aren't out of the ordinary for a normal user.

We do not have a date yet for the next software update on this phone.
