Spam text messages

I just blocked my text messages again because of incoming spam messages. I would like to use this feature occasionally, but do not use it enough to buy a plan. I do not want to pay for incoming spam messages. You need to stop charging for incoming messages, reduce the fee a lot, or figure out some other solution to this problem!

Where does the spam come from? Have you blocked messages from the web? (It's one of the service blocks you can apply for free through MyVerizon and only blocks texts from web services, which are mostly spam anyway.) Have you utilized your free number blocks (5 numbers for 90 days, and they can be renewed)?

Another option might be to use Parental Controls ($5/month) to limit who can text your line to certain numbers, or to change to a new phone number that the spammers won't have.

I have a wireless broadband connection and am receiving spam messages from 46938. The spam blocker will not take this number as it is not a phone number. How can I stop these messages that I have to pay for and do not want? I have blocked messages from the web. Thanks for any help.

Look here on the right abve the add with the black background, think that is your culprit. Other sites state to text stop back. Mary

I've started getting porn spam messages from 518-651-1111. I accidentally opened it tonight, and discovered what it is. I do not know this number, and want to stop it from sending me messages. I don't think I should have to pay for porn!! There should be a way to block individual numbers permanently.

If you don't want to use the 5 free blocks for numbers then pay for usage controls for a permanent block. Mary

This will continue to be an excalating problem as long as Verizon Wireless refuses to even RECOGNIZE that it is NOT providing customers with an option to block messages sent from the web.

As long as someone provides a cell phone number to LOOK as though it is the sender - as if the message is coming FROM a cell phone, not the web - then Verizon Wireless deludes itself into thinking that the problem is spoofing. There are any number of programs which allow someone to send an SMS where the sender will appear to be a valid cell phone number.

The company is clueless if it will claim that it will "Block all text messages sent from the web", while BLATANTLY IGNORING THE FACT THAT IT IS NOT DOING SO. The issue is not spoofing the sender's number, it's that the messages are not only not sent from the number shown, but not sent from ANY number at all. They are SENT FROM THE WEB.

The "spoof" is that Verizon doesn't understand - or more accurately, REFUSES to recognize - that the masquaraded number isn't the point, rather it is the method, the origin, where the message is coming FROM - THE WEB. These messages are NOT being blocked. They ARE spam

I too have a broadband line and I used to get spam messages like you. May I ask what make & model broadband equipment do you have? Also, are you able to view the text messages on your computer? I was able to do so under text messages on VZ Access Manager. If you have VZ Access Manager then you an reply to one of the messages that you received from 46938 with 1 of 6 words/phrases below:

Stop
Quit
Cancel
End
Unsubscribe
Stop All

Once you reply to one of the original messages then you will receive another text advising that you have opt-out of the service. You also have the option to apply a text message block on your broadband line. If you are interested in having a text block added then you can send me a private message with your full name, mobile number, & a summary of your request. I will be happy to contact you and confirm the requested update to your account.
