key pad input issues - proximity sensor and screen wake up

For example, If I call my voice mail not using speaker phone or bluetooth, when I hold the phone to my ear, screen goes blank (wish I could turn that off, it's so annoying)

After moving phone so I can see to enter password, first keypad input NEVER works.  If for example my voicemail password is 123456, I have to hit the 1 key twice before it recognizes that I pressed 1 at all.

Another example

If after placing a phone call, I want to hang up, I have to end the end call button twice before the phone recognizes I hit the end call button.

Silly problem to have yet very annoying.

If you wait several seconds after the screen wakes up, the first keypad input works.

It's as if after the screen wakes up, the app to accept keypad input has to start.  Suddenly it's making sense.  I have issues with waking up the phone and unlocking it. I have to wait a few seconds before input is accepted after waking up.

the phone is on, oops, not yet..wait for it, wait for it, ok now! you can use the phone!

What a horrible design!
