I have one question. Does anyone know if you use the file name SETUP.ZIP or do you change the name to UPDATE.ZIP before you move it to the SD card.

Jerry -- you need to change it to 'update.zip' first, and put it at the root of the SD card.
BUT, understand that this is still a bit iffy if you want to do this. It is pretty straightforward and simple, but you are still going "outside the lines" as far as Verizon is concerned. Until they have released this OTA, its not officially supported.
I'm only adding that because I know most people on here want to remain "stock", and stay kosher as far as Verizon is concerned.
YEs jsut rename it to Update.zip it's done that way on purpose to be sure you are movign the file and checking it.
As far as OTA's, verizon cues them. Half the time regualr tech reps have no clue. THey can only read what their screens tell them. Techs that push them don't handle calls. So they need to get in synch, this happened with the moterola update as well.
Most network updates roll in batches. FIrst a few, then a few more, to see what can be handled without disruption.
I myself am a person that rather download and update. 1. TO assure success. 2. to elviate strain to those gettign OTA's.
Actually the manual update is fully supported as far as uture updates, it is what the OTA will be.
You run a slight less risk of issue compared to OTA's, but verizon likes people to do OTA's, even if the data gets corrupted in any means.
IF your phoen does get corrupted durign the OTA, techs will have to use the sd update to fix it, or do a full factory overwrite, whic hare the files out now.
what a long day waiting for this update, woke up so early hoping for the prompt on my phone. its going on 10 pm and still nothing..maybe the morning?? i dont need this stress one more day haha
I had a friend bring me his tonight.
"Dang it I want gingerbread on my phone right now"
he sits it down, i go to kitchen, open a package
and stick a gingerbread cookie on hsi phone.
The look was priceless..... The eye roll, lip turn... priceless.
He should be glad he didn't ask for Icecream Sandwhich.
I live in NYC and I remember getting my updates for my original droid very late in the evening or very early in the morning
still nothing here in connecticut, still waiting for the update i know there only that one manuel update but it still scares me cause it came out before the ota .

also is there a way to get everything to reinstall back on it's own like with moto phones??

I got my update this morning. took about 20 mins and no problems so far!! never had a real problem with phone, but all seems well.
Hope everyone get the update soon.
