texting international number while international phone is in US

I will be meeting up with an English friend in New York. He has a cell phone with an English phone number, and I have a US based phone number. What kind of rates apply when you text an international phone number, but the international phone is actually in the US? Do I need to change my current plan to an international plan to avoid fees?

Hi meb313,

That's a great question. You will incur the same long distance charges as you do when you communicate with your friend while he is in England even if he is in the United States as you will be dialing an international number. Please find all international rates including text message rates to England at vzw.com/INTERNATIONAL.

You need to add the International Dialing (I-Dial) feature to sent text messages to international numbers. This feature must be added by a customer service representative. When ready to add I-Dial to your account please call 1-800-922-0204 or contact us on Twitter @VZWSupport.
