Yahoo email requesting to re-enter password often

OVer the past two days, i've been randomly getting a error that's telling me to re-enter my password to access yahoo email. this is happening every few hours, about 8 times over the weekend. I've looked through the settings and can't figure out how to correct this. any help?

The same issue is happening on my charge and my wifes charge. This just started two days ago. I r entered our passwords and this still didn't fix it. Seems like it is an issue with their servers authentication process....hopefully they fix this soon. This is annoying

Same problem. I've even cleared the data from it and started over (and re-started the phone) a few times.

Adding my name to the list. I've got about 7 email accounts synched to my Charge. The challenges started about a week ago, but only once or twice associated with one or two account. Starting today all my accounts are demanding password re-entry every few hours. I'm about ready to return the blasted phone. I have no patience for this crap, not with the amount I pay for this service and phone. Desiree

Hey Everyone...new here but I joined to give you all a solution to your problem!
I have been having the same issues with my Droid Incredible since Sunday...I could send email but was not receiving any. SO frustrating!! I called my carrier (Verizon) and they couldn't figure it out, reset some servers, etc, and told me to call back today. I did, they were no help, told me to call Yahoo... No # to call Yahoo.

Anyways, this is what I did and I am up and running....

Don't worry about your phone, nothing is wrong with it. It's Yahoo.

Log onto your Yahoo mail account (through a home computer, rather than your phone). Access "My Account". I use the new updated Yahoo, so it appears in the upper left-hand corner where it says "Hello, [yourname]" Click Account.

Log in if necessary.

Scroll down and click "Set Language, site and time zone"

Change your location to one of four choices: Yahoo Singapore, Yahoo Hong Kong, Yahoo India or Yahoo UK. Save.

Log out and then log back into your mail.

Now in mail, click Options (drop down menu) and click either More Options or Mail Options, depending on what version of Yahoo you have.

Click POP and forwarding from the left hand menu. Select the button that says "Allow email to be POPed"

Delete your account in Droid Mail and log back in. No need for manual set up, just let it do its thing.

You should be good to go. So far its working for me. I will let you know if it stops again

Also, this is specific to Yahoo mail, if you have a different email provider, obviously, this won't work.

Thanks for that suggestion. However, When I click my Yahoo account's POP & Forwarding, the only option I have is to upgrade to Mail Plus, which is $20yr. That means I'd be paying at least $100 a year just for simple email services. I don't think so. I'd rather drop Yahoo altogether.

So, sounds like alot of us are having the same issue... but that no one has really found a cure.

Mine has done this since Friday, and once again this morning.

I see some people are recommending deleting the Yahoo account from the email, my problem is... I can't seem to find a way to do that. I can ADD an account, but I can't seem to find a way to DELETE a current one.

I went into my Yahoo (laptop pc) account and updated my phone number there, but it hasn't appeared to make any difference.

So, has anyone come up with a clearcut solution? Can anyone provide information on the steps to delete my Yahoo account?

I have having the same issue both no 3 or 4 G network and yahoo constantly asking me to sign in over and over and over... sends me a notification on my droid charge like I got an email, but noooo it is the error sign in message... gggeeeezzzz louise guys ... this is VERIZON and certainly much more knowledge here than in some other providers!

On top of that... they were calling me and texting to pay an $80 bill just friday the 14th... now this ??? I paid but get no data connection??

I will add this is something android related because my son's IPHONE is not doing any of this and has no issues... What is up Verizon????????????????????????????

You can delete the account out of the Email app by Clearing the Data from the Manage Applications Area.

I deleted all my yahoo accounts and re-instated them on my phone (Samsung Charge), but that didn't help with the sign-in error problem. But if you want to try deleting your yahoo email accounts on your phone: 1. get into the phone's email app 2. click the settings button; you should see an "accounts" button 3. click the accounts button; if you see a list of accounts, press and hold on one of the names, you should see a list of options including delete. Yesterday I downloaded the Yahoo mobile email app to my phone. It seems to work without complaining about sign-in passwords. So that's an option. While the Yahoo email app works, I'm used to the phone's native email app. For the moment, I'm comparing the 2 apps to see which one is best for me. If the Yahoo/Samsung/Verizon mess can't get this mess straightened out soon, I'll probably drop Yahoo. Their email service quality has dropped into the toilet in the last few months. Desiree

There are a lot of mixed reviews on the Yahoo! Mail app in the Market. Can you report back any issues?

No problem.

My initial reaction, likely because I'm more familiar with it, I prefer the phone's native email app just a little bit more.

It's easier to access my multiple accounts (fewer clicks)
it's easier to differientiate read vs unread messages, and the light text on dark background is easier on my eyes than Yahoo's black text on white background.
I have multiple Yahoo accounts, but the Yahoo doesn't break down which accounts receieved the new messages. Unless I missed a setting somewhere, the notification panel just tells me I've got new messages, not which accounts they're associated with.
It's a bit easier to delete, since I can do multiple msg selects and select a command such as mark as read or delete, etc.

Pluses for the Yahoo email app: I do like that it notifies me of all my incoming messages, even the ones I auto-forward to folders other than Inbox. Also, there appears to be a way higher default limit on the number of messages I can view. With the Samsung, the default limit is 50 msgs.

Can someone from verizon please look into this issue. This is frustrating as my wife and I use or charges to get our yahoo mail....and now can't get it on the phones

Verizon should give us a credit on our next bill for this "inconvenience." I use this phone for business purposes, and it does not look good for me to prospective clients! This SUCKS, Verizon!

Well, right now it looks like it's a Yahoo issue, not a Verizon one. My other emails accounts that I sync with my phone aren't having this problem.

Maybe the RIM servers had a chat with the Yahoo servers so now the Yahoo servers are screwing up so the RIM servers don't feel alone in the screw-up department.

I get the same result...to "upgrade" to Yahoo Mail Plus for a mere $20. NO thank you. This is ridiculous, and obviously another way to try to choke us into paying more for a service that should continue to be free.

I had that problem happen to me. We went through the whole process or rebooting the phone, removing the battery, resetting the phone to which I lost all my information, etc. Ultimately, it ended up that the problem was the SIM card. I had to take my phone into the Verizon store and they just programmed a new SIM card and it magically began working again...just as quickly as it had stopped.

I might buy that it's the SIM card itself if it weren't for the fact that so many have reported having the same problem at the same time.

Although I suppose it is possible a recent software upgrade (from Yahoo, Verizon, Samsung, whoever) contained or didn't contain the code necessary to allow our particular SIM card versions to work the way it's supposed to.

While scared I'll put a jinx on things, it appears the problem may have been corrected. It's been a few hours and I haven't had to re-enter my password on one of my Yahoo email accounts.

If someone or group did take corrective action, I suspect it may take a few hours for the correction to migrate to all the affected accounts throughout the network.

I sent a test email to my oldest Yahoo account and it was pushed to my phone without a problem. One by one I plan to re-add my accounts to my phone.

Signed on to Yahoo basic free account through my PC. Changed the Yahoo password there. Went back to Droid and re-entered new password. Seems to be sticking

Thanks for your posting and thanks to the community for your input.

It's your Yahoo email and it's important, I completely understand. I also use a Charge myself, but I am not having the issue you all are describing. However, I have completed some research and have some information for you.

This issue does seem to be an issue with Yahoo, since there does not seem to be an issue with the other email providers. I have a workaround that has been provided by our Data Technical Support team. Below are the steps.

1. Remove the account

2. Add an email account

3. Go to Other

4. Put in email address and password then click manual setup

5. Choose IMAP (leave all settings as they are and complete setup)

Please try this and post back with your results. I hope this information is helpful!

While I'm reluctant to say the problem is solved, I did re-add one of my yahoo account per your configuration instructions a couple of hours ago. So far, there've been no sign-in error messages.

I'm also pulling emails from that same account through K-9 and Yahoo for Mobile for purposes of comparison.

If I don't see any error messages between now and Monday, I will be thrilled! :smileyhappy:

I tried that but it would not push email at all. I'm still having the problem as of 10/23/11 930PST. I'm thinking about heading back to the Verizon store to demand a new phone because their native email app does not work with a common email such as Yahoo. We'll see how that goes, unless anyone has had success with it.

I contacted Verizon Wireless about this problem, and basically they told me there was nothing that they could do except download the yahoo app. I think that is ridiculous, because you have to manually go into your email. So I have to check it every 5 seconds? CRAP! He told me there was no timeframe for this to get fixed and that yahoo is basically not obligated to do anything. How are we supposed to get this fixed? We paid good money for a phone that will not work correctly and are expected to live with it or pay full retail price for a new phone? I don't understand how this is fair. I am very unhappy with how they are reacting to this situation, there should be a recall or something on the phones. He told me specifically it was only droid charge phones and he had several calls the previous day with the same issue, but gave no solution. I hope someone actually cares to read this and understand how many customers are upset with this situation and understand why they are switching companies. I find this ridiculous but most of all unfair to anyone who is having this same problem.

This has been an on-going issue for me for over two weeks now. I think it's crazy that we can't get an honest fix for this. The option to add the account using IMAP is not the same as the function of the native Email application that we all signed up with. Verizon needs to find out what changed between September, and October of this year with Yahoo! I rely on my Yahoo email, although if they're purposely hindering this function... akin to iPhone and Flash, then I would have to consider taking my business away from yahoo, and moving on with another Gmail account, and forwarding all the messages from yahoo so that I can check it without manual updating.

Per Christina's recommendation, I deleted all my Yahoo email accounts on my phone this past Saturday (22Oct2011) and re-added all but one choosing Others for account type, manual setup and IMAP protocol.

To date I have not gotten any sign in errors associated with those accounts. I'm still learning the differences between IMAP and POP3, but at least I'm not constantly signing into my accounts to get email.

I added one minor Yahoo email account choosing Yahoo account type, and auto configuration. That account still spawns sign in error messages on my phone.

I thought about doing that, as well. However, unless I read it wrong, Gmail states it will only pull email from another account (i.e. Yahoo) for 30 days. After that, the account holder has to arrange for POP forwarding at the source (i.e. Yahoo). And unless you have a Yahoo account that is different than mine, Yahoo requires an upgrade to a paid account ($20/yr) before allowing a POP forwarding service.

ive been having the same problem for like 2 weeks now. i spoke to tech support at verizon and they told me that Yahoo mail doesnt work with Android and that the stock app isnt good so i should download the official Yahoo mail app...and the Yahoo mail app doesnt work either. I never get my emails and its super slow.

Ive been having a ton of issues with my droid, and im past my 14 days to exchange it. ive been battlling with verizon. and the guy told me that getting a refurbished replacement phone would solve my issues....ok but if Yahoo doesnt work in general then getting a replacement phone doesnt solve my email issue does it??

Based on what I've read about the quality of support people typically get from Verzion store reps and Tier 1 support online, I'd recommend checking out one or two other forums (perhaps non-verizon ones that focus on your phone's specific model), before turning your phone in.

I have a Samsung Droid Charge and found an online forum for that specific phone.

There are sadly very few properly trained tech support folks employed and it can be pretty tricky for the average customer to connect with them to get the right advice. It seems you actually stand a better chance of getting decent help from other customers who are going through the same thing with the same device.

I really don't like to face the fact that these days, in spite of what one pays for the device and service, one cannot always get high quality products and quick, effective support from the companies that profit nicely from what they've sold, but it's the annoying truth.

Looks like all is back to normal now, my wife and I have not had any sign in error issues at all today or at all yesterday. We didn't do anything to our phones or the email app, it just started working again without the sign in errors, looks like Yahoo got this fixed.
