Time to leave the Droid Hello Iphone

Well I just switched to verizon in January and got the htc Droid and ever since I got it i have had nothing but problems I took it there acouple of times and they said it was fine but it still misses calls lags real bad and battery life stinks. I have tried every option to fix these problems nothing works. Verizon wont replace the phone because they say nothing is wrong with it thats BS! So after watching the Apple Blog today I have decided to say good bye to my droid and hello to the new iphone. Dont hate on me Im just expressing how i feel. If verizon got the iphone i would stay but oh well

Everything the iPhone is claiming to have is already available on other phones. I can't wait to see what negative things come out about the iPhone. Steve needs to quit the cell business and move back in his garage to work on computers again. Apples days are numbered in the cell business. Not saying Verizon is the best but look at the data charges for ATT. Look at the coverage for other companies.

hope you have better luck with ATT and the iphone. your situation stinks and i can't believe vzn is willing to let you go, if the phone really is broke. i'll stick with the best network.

ya i even contacted htc and they gave me steps on how to fix it and no luck i wish verizon was getting the iphone

you do realize that the htc droid eris which im assuming you have had pretty outdated components which is why it was so slow. Why didn't you just return it for another phone? Seems like you are one of the iphone fanboys and didnt even give the better phones a chance. Obviously the droid eris isn't going to compare to the iphone, hell it doesnt even compare to the moto droid or droid incredible but good luck with at&t where they lag and network is down all the time because of too many people using it.

i had the iphone 3gs and loves the service and everything but i decided to get the droid and try new things out and they dont compare dont get me wrong i love the verizon service but they dont care bout their customers

Verizon is mainly focused on Android. Plus keep in mind that AT&T and Apple are still in a contract together. The contract I believe ends in 2011.

I wish, oh how Iwish that Verizon would change to iphone. However, no way would I go with AT&T, as matters stand. Not that things may not be unusual at timeswith all phones, but we would know the product is good and reliable and without so many glitches. One wants a phone we can depend on and not one that you need to be constantly fixing or messing up with. i phones have great reception and all th apps are great. Thank you Steve Jobs for character. It takes character to create a product that is good and to stand and say no to any funky kind of technology, just because some in the public want it for whatever reasons, monetary or not. And it takes character to protect kids and families from corrupted apps and viruses, Steve Jobs, ahs done both while giving excellent products. ~ DebbiePearl

bleh did you guys see the new iphone? Whats so great about it? video conferencing? LOL I bet you anything that verizon will have something similar to the htc evo. Kinda sucks to release a phone thats supposed to be the best phone out, when a competitor already released a better one. Thats what happened to the new iphone. best of luck with your coverage.

+1, the iphone 4 is a flop technologically, IMO. it "introduces" folders, multitasking, and a high res screen. oh, wait, those have all been released in phones (all in the omnia 2 and incredible). plus, even the most basic phone has the added bonus iphone will never allow, and that is a forced hard reset by pulling the battery out, carrying extra or extended range batteries, ect...

- I've had my Droid for about two weeks or so....

... and already I'm climbing onto the fense about it.

- I used to train the Verizon DSL people a long time ago to improve on the kinds of problems I'm seeing with the support for

the Droid NOW. So this really hurts me to say.

- These people really don't know what they are doing!

- It seems I've got the bug so many others have complained about and it has already become a pain in the butt. I've got the Voicemail counter issue that shows you have 2 unheard voicemails ni the notifications, when there aren't any. There is no way to reset the counter from the Droid, so users are advised to contact VZW.

Here's my story:

1. I called Verizon Wireless for tech support to reset the counter.

2. The young woman who answered the phone immediately asked "Did you say you needed to reset your password?". No.

3. She began typing for about 5 minutes. In the mean time, battery life dropping fast. I already understood that she was looking for the information in their knowledge base for the phone or service, and that's ok, and expected.

4. But, when she came back to the phone she said, "My system keeps giving me errors. Let me get you on the phone with my.... Tech Support", then the hold music began. I know what that means because I had to stop a lot of folks from doing it in the past. In stead of escalating the call to the next tier, she released the call back into the call queue. This gives her a short AHT (Average Handle Time) and DOES NOT SOLVE MY PROBLEM.

5. After about 15 more minutes someone new answers the phone, and I have to give my information and explain the problem all over again. Come on people! You guys use AR Remedy, JUST READ THE NOTES, or get after who ever is not leaving notes.

6. He seemed to understand what I was asking, and went away for another 5 minutes and came back to the phone and told me, "Its done. You now need to reset you phone by removing, and reseating the battery then waiting several minutes, up to an hour or so." I said ok and thank you, and got off the phone to do what he said.

7. An hour later, the voice mail notifications still said 2 unheard voicemails are in the box, but this time when I went to check my voicemail, I GET A BUSY SIGNAL INSTEAD. Yep, he fixed it alright!

8. This morning, its still a busy signal. When I log into my VZW account it now says "VOICEMAIL DECLINE" in my features.

- They really dont seem to have it together. I'll try again today, but I'm getting discouraged. :robotmad:

Called VZW this morning (7:40 AM EST), got a support agent on the phone named Julie. She listened to the problem and the new problem caused by the previous tech support.

- SHE SOLVED BOTH PROBLEMS IN ONE SHOT!!!

- She did great, and VZW needs to have people like her training the other people I spoke with!

End quote The technological flop has +10hours battery life with Wi-Fi (and Apple underestimates battery life IMHO) Can we get close to this on out Android phones without crippling them by turning off all their features. I think this is a very good thing. Folders that automatically are created using context sensitive clues to create the appropriate folder, you don’t just make them and then drag and drop as in Windows. You drag on icon for an app over another similar icon an it creates a folder for those based on type. Backwards, huh? IPS screen with 960x6xx density so you can see the screen at any angle and read text without trouble (this is the reason I switched to the Motorola Droid, as we spend so many hours reading our screens). This screen should be brilliant, true to color, and easily read at any angle. Just look up IPS screens on Wiki. I also own 2 iPhones since the original release and have never ever had to do a ‘hard reset’. BTW, there is a provision to do a ‘hard reset’ on the iPhone. The multitasking that Apple introduces is designed to save battery life, a good thing in my opinion. Plus, because their market is monitored, there are few apps that are as poorly coded as some of the apps on the Android market. Even Google complained publicly about this at Google IO 2010. Before you criticize like a blind fanboy, get your facts straight and bring some knowledge to the discussion. This is not a war, it is about differing technologies and Apple’s anal compulsive construction and design policies.

iPhone is great. Let's not pretend it isn't. Ok it isn't going to be bleeding edge forever and they made a few odd choices with the ip4 though I haven't seen the official specs since the announcement isn't expected officially until what Friday I think or Thursday. When it comes out it will awe iPhone enthusiasts but the rest of the world especially Android users will be confused. Until now the iPhone has been the bold new fronteirs phone. Pushing the envelope a little. Now they are coming out with a comperable to current market phones only lower end some things and possibly a slightly better screen. For the first time the only advantage iPhone really has over competitors is the app store with more apps than anyone else. However, Android is gaining fast and iPhone is refusing to ever allow Java mobile on any of their mobile devices. Wow really ok way to put all your eggs in a basket that hasn't even come to market much less caught on. Yet it will remain one of the biggest sellers because it is a pop culture super power.

I love my Android. The only thing that would be better for me is if I could have full terminal support and the full Linux experience. I get that it would not be a good thing in general but I wish I wouldn't have to void my warranty to get it.

the only big difference i see in iphone4 from droid eris is camera lens in front of phone.good luck on your switch to att-t.sorry to hear that verizon did not resolve your issues.

Two years ago I was a Verizon customer, not once did I have a complaint. I only switched to AT&T because of the iPhone 3G. I was a good girl and waited a year for Crapple to drop the price and unveil an even better product. So here I am, back, I've waited for Verizon to either get in with a contract with Crapple or just unveil a phone that is sooo dang close to the iphone that would make me come back. Hence, the HTC Incedible was the one. I don't have any problems with iPhone. I do have a problem with their network. I live 15 miles outside the capital of Oregon. One would think I would be on the 3G service....nooo...I get the Edge network...it's worse than dial-up. I know that Verizon's 3G network works in my town and my office because a co-worker has the Droid and I saw how fast her's loaded.

So when Jobs says...it doesn't matter, we are on the wifi network, during the conference, .that is about as good as the iphone gets. Sad to have to pay $30 for a data plan and get crap for service. So really, Crapple...let's do some contracting work and strike a deal with Verizon. My rant of course doesn't apply to those in metropolitian areas that get AT&T's 3G...my rant is because I am one of those customers that's been getting screwed for two years.

I also agree on the iphone4, the features like video conferencing would not work on the Edge network anyway. Afterall, really, people, we are paying for the service, not so much the phone.

You can go to AT&T to get the iPhone. But as of June 1, 2010, AT&T just raised the ETF for their smartphones, from $175 to $325, for new customers, and AT&T customer's signing new 2yr. contracts. Regular phones ETF are the same. (Yes, Verizon has the ETF for their smartphones at $350. :smileytongue: ) Also, for new customers, AT&T no longer offer "unlimited data" for smartphones. Something about freeing up their networks. Old AT&T customers, will still have "unlimited data." Maybe people know about this issue. :smileywink:

I just changed from AT&T. I have a 5 month old IphoneI love the Iphone BUT AT&T service area is not good. I spent more time with NO SERVICE. My calls and texts were never delivered. The Iphone3g is great, but AT&T has no 3g coverage, you are lucky to get any coverage. The internet on the AT&T is as slow as dial up! If Verizon goes to the Iphone I will switch to the Iphone. The Droid apps are hard to download and I just cant seem to get used to it. Maybe it just takes time. BUT Verizon coverage is great! Verizon customer service is as bad as AT&T coverage!But personally I would rather have coverage.

Missing calls would be your problem.. I've had mine for months and have yet to miss one, unintentionally, that is. What happens when you miss one? Lags real bad? REALLY? I know, again, you're either a 1) iPhone fanboy that is hurt that another provider has equal to better phones that look better, also or 2) ignorant. The battery life does "stink". +1 there but with the newest battery, no problem at all, even for a heavy user like me.

And I want the iPhone too, I want the crappy receptions, data plans, frequent dropped calls, Apps being removed for no reason, never using my front cam for video calls because no one wants an iPhone, etc. Heck, they won't even get flash, HOW LAME!

If you cannot prove your phone's faults in the store,or if the faults sound questionable, like you have tried to tell us, they aren't going to do anything but assume you're one of those whiny customers that are never pleased.

Good luck, however, you'll need it. My cousin in NYC already tried returning her iPhone 4 and wasn't successful and it has legitiment problems, not problems that you THINK are there with the HTC DROID.
