I'm also having a problem sending MMS messages. However, I'm having the problem whether I have text or not. It just gets stuck on sending and doesn't ever send. I need this fixed ASAP.
I possibly just figured out how to make them send when they are stuck. I have to restart the phone and then eventually the picture messages that were stuck sending will actually send. For such an expensive and high-tech phone, you'd think this wouldn't be necessary. Maybe they'll come out with a better solution for this problem soon. I used to have this problem with my HTC Incredible but I thought getting a new phone would improve the problem. Apparently not... Wish there was some way to auto restart my phone every night so I wouldn't have these problems. I keep my phone on ALL the time and I guess it just needs to be restarted sometimes.
Are you using the native app? If so, try Handcent- LOADS of options and features. Just make sure to disable notifications on the native app so that you don't have to manage two messaging apps.
I've had this problem, and the only way I know to fix it is to turn off wifi and switch to CDMA only. You can then download the messages that won't download and send the ones that won't send. After they go through, you can switch to LTE/CDMA again and turn on wifi. If you ever turn off your mobile data again you need to repeat the process. I really hope they patch it soon because this is ridiculous.
I am having the same problem. Having to restart to send MMS messages. I realize this may not be Verizon's fault and it may be attributed to ICS; however, I am hoping to find help anywhere.
The issue does seem to be specific to wi-fi...at least for me. I've switched wi-fi off, and the mms messages are usually sent normally. I think perhaps once or twice they were not, but that could have just been where I was in the network.
Messages should go either way, so hopefully this is patched soon.
Thank you everyone for reporting this issue. I can understand that it would be frustrating to have to try multiple times to send the same message. I have a Nexus myself and tried with a few other Nexus' here and was not able to duplicate the issue. Since there are multiple people having this issue, I will escalate this issue to our product team to further investigate this issue. I will need more details to troubleshoot. Do you notice this only happening in a certain location? Does it happen when picking up 3G, 4G or both? Do you get an error message or what exactly happens when trying to send MMS? Does this happen only when the signal is low, or with full signal?
Also, try removing the battery and SIM card for about 30 seconds. Toggle airplane mode and network mode for a few seconds, then retest.

I am also having this same issue.
Mine started when I turned data off one day (to see how long the battery would last without it). Once I turned data back on, I haven't been able to send a MMS. I went and cleared the cache and data from my messaging app (handscent) and it worked once. The next day it was back to not being able to send MMS.
Edit: I went and toggled to LTE (I normally keep it CDMA since we don't have much 4G coverage to begin with), the phone automatically rebooted itself.
After it rebooted, I was able to send an MMS.
I then turned it back to CDMA only, turned wifi back on, and then could not send MMS. Turned wifi off, still couldn't. Toggled LTE on still couldn't.
I turned LTE on, Wifi off, rebooted, and MMS works.
Seems to be an LTE thing, not WIFI. Phone needs to be booted in LTE mode in order to send MMS.....probably a glitch in ICS.
I am also having the issue sending out pictures via MMS. If you Google "galaxy nexus picture mms sending" restricted to the last month you see tons of forums where users have the same issue. The file size was 368 so I changed my settings to reduce it to 200 or less. Still didn't fix the issue.
Then one post on droidforums.com talked about a WiFi software issue. Mine seems to happen when I'm on my WiFi at home. I followed some of the forums solutions and turned off the WiFi and once it switched to 4G Verizon I started over and the picture went through properly.
That is a serious annoyance and clearly some kind of system/software problem. Much like the way it gets stuck on 3G and then won't cycle back so you have to use the airplane mode trick to get it to catch the 4G again.
I love the phone but these tech issues are a major dissatifier.
I had the same problem and fixed it by going into:
settings, wireless & networks "more", mobile networks, then you need to "enable" data access over Mobile networks
It will then have a check mark on "data enabled"
After I did that I immediately was able to send and receive MMS.
Mine has always been checked and the issue has been ongoing.
That's fine for using the mobile network, but I want to send/receive using wifi. You can't do that?
K
MMS messages can only be sent through the cellular data network. They can't be sent/transferred through your wifi network.
OK. Related question. The reason I sometimes turn off mobile data (thus making this problem) is because I want to use wifi as much as possible. If both are on and I'm connected to wifi, how can I ensure that everything EXCEPT MMS goes through wifi rather than mobile data?
Just to add my name to the list. Same issue. Only solved by switching wifi off and sending via 4g. No other settings mentioned in the rest of these posts did anything. Just simply turning off wifi and sending via the cellular network. Nuts.
Support of course wanted me to reset the phone, blah blah blah, canned responses. Anyhow, while it's inconvenient, at least it doesn't take a 3rd party app that sends links instead of the actual attachment. Hopefully they'll fix this in the future if enough people complain.
Please add my name to the list.
Is there a fix coming for our "mms sending" problem? Its not a good enough answer for us to have to toggle anything to send a simple picture message. This is definitely a step back, not forward..... for Samsung developers.
Add me to the list too. This is problem should really be fixed. I am paying for there pic/text service and I can't even send any pics. I hope there is some type of compensation that comes once they find a solution or at least a heartfelt apology. This is the one thing I hate about this phone. I love the features of it and everything else but because of this problem I feel like i have been cheated in the price because the free phones Verizon gives away can send pictures better than the nexus.
I too have the problem of not being able to send MMS messages, 90% of the time. I have tried all the proffered suggestions and found no surefire fix, up to and including power-cycling the device. But hey, can you make/receive phone calls? How about SMS? Most often I cannot do even those simple things--and this is someone who left AT&T because of poor service. Nope, Verizon is far, far worse. Everywhere I go in Seattle, the service is widely variable. Most often I have 0 or 1 bar--even falling back to 3G. This is in the core of Seattle where I know other people on Verizon have service. Perhaps this device is just a dud--or just mine. In any event, I am considering paying Verizon the $350 sucker fee so I can churn away.
Oh, also, I called Verizon about this. The attitude of the rep on the phone was that if I was able to make a phone call, send a text or MMS *once* that meant the service was excellent and I should STFU and be happy. Very poor customer service.
Same problem here. Press send on MMS message, stuck on "sending" for hours, turn off wifi, message sends about 10 seconds after wifi is turned off. Tried the same process on my wife's Galaxy Nexus, had same exact results. Won't send until you turn off wifi.
Have you guys tried clearing the messages apps cache?
I resolved my problem -- it was my internet service provider, Comcast, not the phone or Verizon. I cannot send MMS through wifi, so I had to enable mobile data. Once mobile data was enabled, I could send the pics. I'm now fine sending MMS.

You should not have to do that. I can have wifi and send MMS. It will send over your data connection regardless if you have wifi on and connected or not.
Tidbits, I have never been able to send a mms message while connected to a wifi network. What settings need to be activated to make it work?
I don't get a lot mms messages so didn't bother me to turn off the wifi connection and then verify the mobile cell data connection was active.
When I send a MMS with wifi on and connected you should see arrows on the network reception bars. I will take a screenshot. I don't change any settings at all. Both my GSM, and CDMA Nexus do it out of the box.
This is what happens when I send an MMS.
Tidbits, you can probably send mms messages because you are using chompsms and have the message size set to 1mb limit. I was having the same problem sending mms messages too but when I installed chompsms and limited the mms message size to 1mb they went through even with wifi on. The native sms app does not allow you to limit the size of the message so people are having issues.
No I am not using ChompSMS. That's the DEFAULT messages app.
As you can see exact same icon.
For good measure here's my install list between B and D, and yes I like Anime :smileyhappy:
Hi Tidbits, I have the same problem sending MMS and downloading pics in text. In an unrelated bit, no pun intended, I checked out ChargeBar and love it. Awesome app!
I had this problem as well. The guy at Verizon store gave me a new sim card and it instantly was able to send MMS picture messages. Might wanna give that a try. It was Free. Also make sure to go to SETTINGS. WIRELESS NETWORK CLICK MORE. Then MOBILE NETWORKS and make sure DATA ENABLED is clicked on. I was told to send these pics it requires the 4G to be on. It fixed my issues.
i bought my wife this phone for Christmas and she sent a couple of pics through her phone and then it stopped working. we have tried everything on here and nothing. very disappointed in Verizon and their lack of response to this issue as well as Samsung. this phone is way to overpriced and severely disappointing..
Same problem here: MMS' stuck with status of "Sending". VZW has known about this issue for quite some time, yet nothing? The issue was escalated nearly 2 months ago, and we've gotten zip. Great customer service there VZW, especially for folks who purchased your flagship product. I can imagine BMW treating their 7 series customers this way. There would be a mass exodus to their comptetitors' products.
Sadly Nexus line was never a flagship device. It was always a developers device first and foremost, and was later decided to allow none developers to purchase it. People dub it a "flagship" because it is Google's own device, but was never a Verizon flagship device and was never advertised like one(See Droid Razr, or Droid Rezound for comparision on advertisements).
Add me to the list.
Have this problem with two Galaxy Nexus. Phones won't send or receive MMS messages. Have tried with both wifi turned on and off. Data is enables over the mobile network. Very frustrating. I have been looking for a solution for a few days and have had no luck.
I downloaded Handcent SMS and that solved the problem for me. You can check in your messaging settings and make sure you have enabled that you can send large files. That may work without downloaded Handcent.
I also appear to be having this problem. Pictures I have take with my phone I cannot send via SMS and I get an error triangle next to the picture. Is there some solution yet? I see the Verizon person above referred it
Add me to the list too. This is problem should really be fixed.
Ok guys I had this crazy problem when I first got my phone as well. It turned out to be the sim card. Took it to a Verizon store and they put in a new one for me for free and it fixed it. Also in settings under WIRELESS & NETWORKS click MORE Then click Mobile Networks and make sure DATA ENABLED is checked which enables data access over Mobile Network. For some reason sending text messages with pictures requires this. Problems stopped right away. So give it a try. I thought it was the phone itself at first but it was the sim card. Hope that helps.
Before my phone was also stuck at "Sending..." now it sends it within 2 secs of pushing the send button when there is 4G.
Like everyone else I was having the same problem but I wasn't too affected by it because I don't send a lot of picture messages. I got bored a week ago and called to bitch about it and wound up spending almost 2 hours on the phone with a tech support person. His name was Patrick and to his credit he was very patient and very thorough. He finally suggested that I do a factory reset which I grudgingly did. For some reason that took care of the issue for me.
The next day I called and tried to speak to someone at Samsung (what a joke) and was told "send in your handset". How bout NO!! I fired off a couple of emails through their "contact us" menu and lo and behold I got a call yesterday. "Billy" said that he was recently added to the "team" of support personnel who are working on the Nexus MMS issue. He asked several questions about the problems that I had been having and then asked me to send several messages to different people. He asked me to send pictures only, pictures with text, and text only. After I did all of this I emailed him to let him know how it turned out. As before if I turned of WiFi everything worked fine.
Here is his email >Email address deleted< Feel free to contact him and tell him about your issues.

I just got my Galaxy Nexus yesterday and I LOVE it except I was having the same problem with my MMS. Wasn't working for me at all, with or without Wi-Fi on (which SHOULD NOT MATTER anyway - if you can make a call, you should be able to send a text, MMS or otherwise). Also, my data WAS enabled and it was still NOT working. Tried resetting phone...nothing. Figured I was going to have to go in and get a new SIM since that seems to be the only fix from reading the earlier posts.
The good news is that we fixed it easily. I read that some people were also having problems receiving MMS messages so I got my husband to send me a picture to test mine. When that pic came through, all of a sudden all my MMS messages that still were saying "Sending..." finally went through. Now I know this may not work for everyone.....especially those who are unable to even receive MMS messages, but I thought I would at least offer the solution that worked for me in case it will help anyone else out.
Also, to the person who said something about this device not being one of Verizon's flagship devices.....I know you may not have meant anything by the comment, but I would just like to say that should have NOTHING to do with whether or not the device works or whether or not Verizon will take care of the problem. We paid Verizon for the phone and we pay Verizon monthly for the continued use of the device. If Verizon sells the device, they should plan on maintaining it.....Or at least giving us some answers!
Look how everyone treats a flagship device. Like it should get everything at the whim of complaints. Not once Verizon called it a flagship and neither did Google. I am just correcting the misconception.
Any word on fix yet? this is getting frustrating.
I tried handcent & a bunch of other solutions with no luck, I just nstalled vz messages & it fixed it!!!!
I get & send my pics again :-)
Add me to the list...
I can not send MMS messages over 3G and over some wifi networks.
I have tried switching on and off services to no avail. I did manage to get messages to send over LTE when in an LTE service area but had to restart the phone to get the "stuck" ones to go.
I've solved the MMS message sending issue.
I was having the same issues as most comments above. The message would just stay in the "SENDING..." possition and never actually send. Sometimes and red error message would notify that is was unable to send.
Anyways heres what I did to solve it. (my brother has the same phone and was also having issues, i explained how to do this to him and it also worked for him)
Go in to Settings--Apps--All, Find the "MESSAGING" app and open. When you are in MESSAGING, click DISABLE. Next, click CLEAR DATA. (a warning will tell you that you will loose all your data and messages, click OK.(all of my messages were saved)). Now, click ENABLE. Exit to the home screen, go into the APPs manager (white circle with 6 dots) and find the MESSAGING icon. press, hold and drag it back to you home sceen.
Try sending a MMS message, it should work now. Did for me, did for my brother. Hope I've helped, and hopfully this is a permenant fix. I've been sending more pictures now a day later and it still works.
I just started having this issue, and researched the forum. Thank you soooo much....it worked.
Thank you!! Worked for me too...
The above work around does not work for me. I'm finding this problem has more to do with 3G. 3G = stuck "Sending" 4G pics fly out of the phone????
I am having the same issue. I wonder if this is related to an OTA update to 4.04, but not sure. I want to say that I am observing the Messaging app isn't resizing the photo before sending. There used to be a small message that would appear saying it was resizing in the past. So, I believe it is a software issue, might be worth filing an issue with the Android community.
