A word on Gingerbread update

"OTA (Over The Air) Push / Pull Details DROID Charge (i510) – MR3 Version EP4 will be pushed Tues 11/29 at noon to 1K customers followed by 19K at 9:00PM Eastern. There will be the ‘soak’ period to evaluate the push. Upon success, beginning Thurs 12/1 at 11:59PM we will ramp up the daily push quantity to 100K, followed by the remaining base on Fri 12/2. Users will not be able to pull the software. Download times 2–5 minutes – depending on network conditions."

Looks like the majority will get it later in the week.

Here is official confirmation that its rolling out. I will stand by my original post and say it will be a few days for some before they see it. Your not going to be able to automatically pull it down.

This came from XDA but as a Android/Verizon phone owner I would agree that this is probably the path as it happened when they updated the Fascinate to Froyo . I was one of the first ones to get the update but many even after doing the manual update didn't get it for five days later.

Based on the numerous posts this morning of overnight notices and installs, I'm not convinced this is entirely accurate, but couldn't point to anything that directly contradicts it, either. If the 9pm push was delayed for some reason... say it was for 3 to 4 hours to address something discovered in the OTA delivery that was causing some of the first batch of failed updates... then it might make more sense.

I think I got it last night. I have hardware version i5.10.06 Firmware version 2.2.1 Baseband Version i510.06 V.EE4 SCH-I510.EE1 Kernal Version 2.6.32.9 se.infra@SEI-07 #1 Build number SCH-i510.EE4

Does that sound right? What is a noticable charactistic of the new update? What should I expect to see available with it?

Thats not right it shokld say 2.3.6

hmmmmm I have been checking system updates for 2 weeks and I was on a i4 version cant remember the number. Now today I am on i5 but still not gingerbread? What should I expect to see that has changed with it?

There should have never been anything identified as "i4____". The Samsung model number on the phone (i510) can't / won't change due to the update.

You'll have been updated when the firmware version changes from 2.2.1 (FroYo) to 2.3.6 (Gingerbread).

You're other reference is a change of build number SCH-i510.EE4 toSCH-i510.EP4.

How does "word in the forum" of a site other than Verizon or Samsung qualify it as "official"? Confirmation, sure. But we had that last night on threads here and other sites. This doesn't give anything authoritative about the process being used.

Sorry. I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer. I appreciate real news of any kind we can get. But speculation based upon whatever anecdotal stuff people can weed out of forums just doesn't cut it for me.

Are you guys still having doubts about the update not coming out?

I got the OTA update this morning, and its a 114.4 mb file.

it should say ,

Firmware 2.3.6

baseband version i510.06 -EP4

kernel 2.6.35.7 - EP4

Build number SCHI510 -EP4

sheesh..I wish I never came on this forum a couple days ago to see all this gossip about the update now I'm sooo anxious and there is nothing I can do but wait..I will probably be one the last to get it, anyone who has gotten the update where are you from and time zone??

No doubts that it is coming at all. I appreciate that you've been able to share first hand experience with it.

What I take issue with is others taking links to other sites and calling them "official" news of who is getting the updates, how and when. Some had earlier indicated that there were a group of 1K and noon yesterday, about 19K at 9pm ET last night, but then no more until 100K go out Thursday. There seem to be some people receiving update notices during the day today, so that makes me question these other "official" news sources.

We'll all get it. I'd rather they pace it. The last thing we want is tens of thousands of downloads of the same file clogging the network, overloading the servers and then failing in the middle of it.
