Samsung SCH-U750 (alias 2) cracked screen. How do i get files off of it?

Hello, i replaced my old samsung alias 2 because the screen got cracked. I now have an EnV touch.

Anyways, went to verizon to transfer all my stuff and they said they could only transfer my contacts and if i got a data cable i could transfer stuff that way via SD card. Well i already had the SD card so i went and got a cable. Only problem is my computer doesnt recognize my phone. It will for the first 10seconds and then the icons all go away. When im able to open it up theres just 3 files in there. TL-Bootstrapp and 2 other useless files. I tried using this program "Bitpim" but in order to use that they say i have to go to settings tools and turn on usb mode or something. However i cant see what im doing on my phone due to the broken screen.

Any suggestions as to how i can retrieve all my pictures/videos/games/ringtones?

Thanks for your posting. I can definitely assist you with transferring your pictures, as there is a way to do this without the phone, using your memory card and a card reader. Card readers can be purchased at a very low cost. You can even get them from our website at http://www.vzw.com/accessories

To transfer Picture Messages from wireless device to PC:

1. Access photo from "My Pictures" and choose "Options."

2. Select "Move" or "Transfer."

3. Remove memory card and insert card and card reader in USB port.

4. Go to your file directory on the PC.

5. Transfer files to the folder of your choice.

For your convenience, I have also listed the steps on how to transfer pictures from your PC to your device.

1. Insert card and card reader in USB port.

2. Go to your file directory on the PC. Transfer files from PC to the "My Pictures" folder directly on the memory card.

3. Reinsert memory card into the wireless device.

I hope this information is helpful and resolves your concerns with getting the pictures on your phone transferred to your PC.

Based on my experience of using BitPim with three different Verizon non-smartphones, I don't think you'll need to turn on usb mode to use BitPim with your Alias2.

- After connecting your Alias2 to the computer via USB cable, your Alias2 might be preset to go into "Media Sync Mode" or to prompt you to tell the phone which mode you want it to go into. On my Samsung u370, pressing the physical power on/off key once is a way saying to the phone that you want the phone to be in "modem mode".

So, just to be safe, press the power on/off key once on your Alias2

- launch BitPim

- If BitPim was previously set to "Detect phone at bitpim startup" in the BitPim settings, then BitPim might display this message: "Phone Detection: Found Other CDMA phone on COMxyz"

just click "OK" to accept it because we'll being changing that setting in a moment

- at the top of the screen, click 'Edit' and then click 'Settings'

- in the screen "BitPim Settings", where it says "Phone Type" choose "SCH-U750 (Alias 2)"

- beneath "Phone Type" is "Com Port". Change that to auto

- at this point, this is all the configuring that I've needed to do in BitPim for my Samsung phone (I have the Samsung u370)

- close the "BitPim Settings" screen and then at the main screen in the left-hand column single-click "Filesystem"

- then in the middle column click the "+" next to the file folder and then during the next few seconds BitPim will read the phone's files and file folders and display them on the screen in the middle column

- wait about 30 seconds while BitPim reads the phones files

- click the "+" next to "brew" and click the "+" next to "mod". Now you'll see a list of subfolders with names that consist of five digits. Click each one one-by-one to examine the contents of the subfolder until you find the subfolders with your personal content like pictures. On my u370, the pictures, ringtones, and sounds are located in these three folders:

pictures/slideshow / brew / mod / 10888 /

ringtones / brew / mod / 10889 / ringtones /

videos / brew / mod / 10890 /

sounds / brew / mod / 18067 /

but the numbers of the subfolders for your Alias2 might be different

- in the third column/pane of BitPim is the contents of each folder. Say you're looking at the contents of the pictures folder. Click on the name of a picture, then right-click and select "save" to save that item to your computer.

In my previous post, the key that I'm referring to as the "power on/off" key does double duty on our phones as the key that Verizon calls the "End" key in its manuals.

But I just remembered that your Alias2 is different from my family's feature phones in that your phone has one key on the keypad that is the "End" key and one key on the side of the phone that is the "power on/off" button.

So in that previous post where there's that step if/when I have to press once the power/End key to make sure the phone is in USB modem mode, I think the corresponding button on your phone that you'd need to press is the dedicated "End" key (not the dedicated "power" key) on your Alias2.
