I know its early, but Please post your thoughts and opinions on this new update. Just wanted to know if it solved all of your problems and did it improve battery life any?
If this fix works , Verizon still need to compensate us for the trouble and inconvenience of not able to receive our phone calls and texts. I have had missed call problems since May and i run a business on my phone. There is no telling how much money i have lost during that period. They should atleast offer us one month of free service.
I can't speak to the missed calls yet but I can state that the lag time between screens is not fixed! I am also still experiencing screen freezes where my screens lock up while trying to scroll from one screen to the next. Also - tapping on an "icon" to open a program is still lagging way behind. Sometimes up to 45 seconds or more. This actually seems worse than before.
Ugh.

I would highly recommend doing a factory reset prior to updating to ED05. Start fresh and then add your apps and data.
Still a lousy phone. Did the update and the market shut down on me three times, even after a restart. In addition, the battery is still at 74% even when the phone says it is fully charged. One more thing to add to the list is the phone froze on me a few times even after the restart.
Verizon, I had higher hopes for this phone. Too bad I didn't catch the switch policy before today...
Only issue I have had before ED05 update is the official twitter app caused my phone to crash. After update I now notice my battery indicator is stuck on "Full", slightly annoying, but knowing Verizon I am sure 2.3 will be pushed out right before I trade it in...

So far, so good. I had not done the ED04 update until today, so I did both of them this afternoon. I tried the GPS on my way home after the install, and before the update it would sometimes lock quick, but mostly just sit and wait. My 1 test after the update worked fine, the GPS locked immediatly.( 5 or so seconds).
I will offer this out to people. I was called by a Customer Service Supervisor this evening, because when I talked to the CSR about possibly trading the phone in, I was asked and the end of the call to do the survey which I did, and in the survey I left them a brief message about the problems we all have been having. I spoke with her today at length about the issues, and 1 thing she told me to do was this:
For the next week, if I get a voicemail and the phone had not rang, listen to the voicemail message, and then right after disconnecting, do a star star star and hit send (The * 3 times and then send). This will load the previous few call records into your account database, and a Verizon tech can go in there and tell where possibly the call was dropped by their equipment.
I told her this is the first I have heard of this troubleshooting technique, and that I would be happy to help. She is going to call me back next week and we will look through my 2 Fascinate phones records to see if they can see anything. She said it could be a faulty switch, an overloaded switch, or just that the phone did not get the call. Either way, it will help them troubleshoot the issue.
There is a concept, allow us to help them troubleshoot the problems..
Same here. I just found out today about the replacement policy but it was too late by then. If this fixes all our problems, that'd be great! But the problems that have already incurred make this phone undesireable, especially because so many people got the option of replacing their fascinates.
So far I can most definantely say it has not solved my problems. Made them worse perhaps? I have no data to speak of. It comes & goes throughout sporadic times but not long enough to downlaod an app or load a web page in the browser. I've missed one call today & that's with ED05. I know I have 2 towers within range of 3 miles or so to my home so it's not the signal itself. Verizon tech support has also been most helpful on the phone so kudos to them.
I'm waiting for my replacement Fascinate to arrive now. The tech from yesterday after repeated steps to reset phone & test some fixes couldn't get it working. I'm supposed to call back once I get the replacement up & running to see if it was just my phone so we'll see. I'm rather late to this problem as my phone mostly stayed off while at work or I used wifi for internet while there. My question is if this doesn't work is Verizon going to take care of me like has many others up to this point? I don't want to swap phones for the next month trying to find one that works.
Between all 5 of my phones for my family my bill is around $230 a month. I don't think I'd be unreasonable to ask for this to be resolved.
Oh my Gosh, just got the update, the phone wont connect to the vzw store, wont stop reading the sd card, charge stuck at 75%, laggggggggg on everything, misses calls, unable to connect to any internet data, thats the short list, now i had called verizon earlier for some questions, i was informed because of certain glitches and criteria that is met with the software update, they will replace the facinate with a new charge Or moto Droid X2 for any facinate owner, be weary certain criteria is a broad devinition, but it will be through tech support, good luck it was a good phone
I would advise you to do a factory reset but make sure youback up everything first using backup assistant.
yellowboy74 wrote: I would advise you to do a factory reset but make sure youback up everything first using backup assistant.
it only backs up phone contacts
anything in google contacts will be backed up via google
Update.... I've been in contact with Level 2 support tech who has already signed me up for a new Charge. My replacement fascinate arrived about an hr ago & the same problems I had before are still there. Perhaps they are even worse with this phone I'm thinking.?.?
So whatever happened to it I don't know but my advice is for those of you still having problems, call tech support at level 2, not customer care as they can't do anything like a trade out for you. Be nice & courteous as these folks aren't to blame for bad software. That comes from Samsung. They will respond & take of your problems.
Its been 24 hours . So far so good . Keeping my fingers crossed
It would be nice if they would allow you to delete some of the apps that came with the phone like city id, skype mobile and a few othe stuff that is not needed by some. but, so far its not bad also my reception goes from 4 bars to one with out even moving so thats i thinks has gotten worse.
Just updated this morning! Seems to be working fine, no delays, all apps operate correctly, battery displays accurately at this time. No calls yet this morning, we will see how the day goes.
Got two voicemails today and they did not show in the call log as missed call. This is unacceptable. The problem still exist

I feel your pain wish ED05 would have fixed all the phones Sorry
all I know is it did fix a Vast amount of them not all
Hope they Just replace the one's That Did not get fixed
Thanks for the concern
Tawest64, thanks for adding your issue. Taking this long to move between screens is definitely not normal, and not something I have seen with the new or previous software versions. I would suggest booting the phone into safe mode to see if this still occurs. If it doesn't, this means an application running in the background may be causing it. Check your running applications and close running apps. You will need to remove applications that may be causing this. If it is still occurring in safe mode, something may be corrupt in the software. I recommend a factory reset.
The only running apps on my phone are the ones that I can't remove because Verizon put them there. I always shut down all the apps that I can. I didn't have this problem before the update so I highly doubt something is corrupt in my software. I've read these forums and I know this is not just happening to me, come on.
Oh and hey, guess what? I AM ONCE AGAIN NOT GETTING TEXT MESSAGES. I was sent at least four today that I know I didn't receive. My mother is VERY ill and needs to be able to reach me, this is beyond frustrating - at this point I am furious.
Still missing calls on ED05. Support wants me to reset my phone... again. I have already done factory resets multiple times. I even restarted the phone and did the "hard reset", tried #228 all the other crap I have seen just about everywhere. This phone just DOESN'T WORK. There is no point in paying a cell phone bill on a phone that can't be used as a phone.
No, it did not work. I have missed several calls since ED05. In addition, I've been missing text messages since ED05 as well, something I did not notice prior to ED05. If you are having these problems, it is not an issue with your specific phone; it's a Fascinate issue!

Even if there is an official GB lurking at Samsung it will have to be tested and loaded up with all the VZW bloat before it is released to the masses OTA.
I would like to see a comment from a rep about an official GB release. I do think eventually it will come for you guys but in the meantime something has to be done about the missed call issue, patches aren't working according to reports on this board.
Time to offer early upgrades Big Red for those who want it.
BOTB,
I'm starting to agree with you. I have 3 Fascinates all on ED05.
Samsung/Verizon should release latest version of Gingerbread to Fasincate.
( or at least announce 'roughly' when it will be available. )
If that doesnt fix most, if not all issues, then Fascinate owners should be allowed
to 'early upgrade' to any other Verizon phone at current upgrade pricing .
That sure seems fair to me and would go a long way to satisfy what seems to be
many unhappy Fascinate owners.
Hi Yellowboy74,
When the voice mails were left, was your phone powered on? In this case, the phone would not show a missed call. A missed call would only show if your phone rang when the call came in. Additionally, if you were in a location where the signal was weak, calls can sometimes go directly to voice mail. These occurrences would be the case with any phone.
Since your posting, have you experienced any additional issues?
Please let us know any further information you may find helpful for us to investigate.
Thanks for your posting and have a good day!
yes the phone was turned on. It doesnt matter where the phone is . If it is not touch for several hours it will not ring and calls go straight to voicemail. Then i have to make a phonecall and it will start ringing and calls will show in the miss call log.
No, it didn't work. I still have the same issues as before with not receiving calls and them never showing up on the missed call log. My poor mother thinks I don't want to talk to her because I never answer her calls! Different apps, the camera, all kinds of stuff force closes all the time. At least once a day I have to take out the battery because the phone is frozen and won't do anything no matter how long I wait. I am not receiving text mesages my husband sends to me (he has a fascinate and the same issues), and the battery only lasts 3-4 hours without even using the phone! I never had this problem before the 2.2 update. I don't want another fascinate. I want mine to work or I want a new phone for FREE without using my upgrade. I shouldn't have to use an upgrade because if the phone worked properly and I could use it AS A PHONE, I wouldn't need to upgrade in the first place! I have a full-time job, a husband, asd well as FOUR children ages 15, 10, 8, & 2 and THREE step-children ages 11, 10, & 9 and I can't miss calls!!! Verizon, what do you suggest now?

Hi yellowboy74,
I am sorry to learn that your phone does not ring for incoming calls when untouched for several hours. Try running your phone in Safe Mode when left untouched for a few hours. If issue stops then a 3rd party application conflict is causing the issue. Please let us know if running the phone in Safe Mode resolves the issue.
Mine didn't work either. Still missing calls, texts, the phone randomly freezes up, and GPS still won't work. I was informed at the Verizon store that it's worked for about 90% of Fascinate owners. Whooptie Doo! It doesn't work for me! I was told they could have another CPO Fascinate sent to me. After some back and forth dialogue with the employee, the manager came over and said he could get me the Incredible 2, but then I'd have to renew my contract for another 2 years. After telling him I didn't care for the Incredible 2, he said he could probably get me the Droid X 2, but again, I'd have to renew for another 2 years. Those were my options. Get another Fascinate that's not going to work properly, or else choose one of two phones that are OK phones, but nothing I want to commit to for 2 years. Thanks Verizon, you're pushing me closer and closer to cancelling my contract!
My Fascinate just started missing calls again a couple days ago. Any thoughts??? Has missed 3 so far.
