I'm in western NY, i've had the droid bionic for 5 days. It's worked fine up until this point and now i have No Data Connectivity. Anyone else having the same issue today, i have no time to call Customer Service.
Yes in Southern Vermont, since yesterday afternoon. I called support this morning and the only thing they told me was it is being worked on. Several hours later still nothing.
I'm having the same data connection issues in central Ohio. No LTE or 3G available where it normally is OK. Not sure if it is related but on Sunday evening neither my daughter nor I could not receive photo attachments through normal texting either. It would say something like "data not available".
I have had the same issue on and off since i got the phone 3 weeks ago. I thought it was just me. Im in Northern NY
This is an issue with the Bionic in general. An update to fix this (among other things) is rumored to be coming in November.
I had same problem come up on the 16th after owning the phone since it was released. Two things I did that worked or was coincidence was to take out the battery and press the on/off button for 30 seconds, then reboot. Tech support had me go to settings/battery & data manager/data delivery and check data roaming. I have been good since. There are other postings by vzw people that they are working on this. I just hope it's a software or network issue, not hardware.
Well, my connection just blipped out so you can basically ignore my previous post. We just keep yelling until they fix it I guess.

Thanks for posting zr500rider!
Sorry you are having problems with the data connection on your DROID BIONIC!
Our Product Support Team are aware of this issue, and are working diligently to provide our customers a permanent fix. In the meantime, a workaround would be to either power cycle the device or you can enable and disable airplane mode to restore the data connection.
I trust I have addressed your concerns.
RETURN IT...let someone be saved! It can't be fixed.

Joey, how do you know this?
I'm probably the last guy to ask since I gave up on my Bionic already, but I find your claims that the Bionic "can't be fixed" to be of a dubious nature. But for those that are holding out hope, please state how you know this. We aren't talking about the time frame, just your claim in general.

Ok, so it's not just me. I'm in Maryland and yesterday I got a connection error. The first time it happened, I just closed the browser and then opened it again and was fine. The second time, I had to power off and then back on to restore connection to the internet. At least I know it's not my specific phone. Hopefully this rumored update in November will do the trick!
I'm in Northern Cali, and i haven't had a data connection for 24 hours now. I've reset the phone, removed the battery, did the whole airplane mode thing.. NOTHING is working... I'm about ready to take this phone back, and expect a FULL REFUND. YOu guys shouldn't release phones before they are ready to with these types of issues. This issue and the missing apps issue, are two very fustrating issues with this phone. Which really makes me NOT want to deal with the phone at all...
Same here with connectivity.
Have to employ all kinds of tricks just to get the Gs (3G, 4G).
And the phone switches between 4G and 3G, in between I have no connectivity (happens exactly when I need to know some info).
Who has time in the car when looking for traffic information to reboot the phone or start playing with airplane mode etc.
I complained at the store, they sent me a replacement. I could reproduce this with the replacement on day one.

I meant it can't be fixed now. If it could we would not be complaining. We have a dubious promise of a future fix, they dont' know if that will work because they don't know if it is software or hardware. If you are still in the time frame to return this phone, why would you want to keep it?
For me it is not only Annoying but has other potential fall out. I need to either have someone read results to me or I get them in an email that most of the time when I need it doesn't come up unless on Wi Fi.
Loss of 3 and 4g is really a big problem when you depend on your phone for more than a toy. Honestly it is mostly a toy now since I can't depend on VZW to deliever a reliable device or signal. Now with loosing the phone signal it is really getting bad. This is my 3rd phone and simm.
I've been having the same problem (in the Dallas area); it happens both in 3G and 4G modes. My house is in a low spot for 4G so I thought it was related to that. However, it's been happening a lot over the past few days and it's making me crazy!! I've been reading that many people are having the same problem, and not necessarily just Bionic owners. Haven't called in yet but it's on my list of things to do.

I can't get data in my house either, and i amin a strong 4G area. In my original Droid, it was never a problem. If I did not have WiFi, this would not be a data phone. I hate it.
Joey
Im on the west coast experiencing data fluctuations with the Bionic I got yesterday, where is loses connectivity. There is no 4g here so I don't have the issue of the alleged "switching" problem which I think is absolute **bleep** coming from VZW. However it drops data whenever it feels like it, also even when connected to Wifi it loses connection. So I don't think this is just a "Network" issue, it is a Hardware issue.
VVerizon refuses to address the issues of its customers, I spent 16 hours in total when I bought the iPhone 4s went through 3 replacements and still had the same issue. All within 27 days, and they wouldn't switch my phone out. They would be happy to rob another line of its upgrade or charge me full retail to upgrade. CMON VERIZON, seriously?? 3 phones in 27 days when I had problems in the first week? But because I jumped through all of your "Technical hoops" and wasted time it took to get replacements you then will no longer honor a worry free guaranty? WOW way to care about your customers.
I am sick and tired of losing data all the time Verizon needs to man up and push out a update.
I am on my 3rd Bionic for various issue's this whole data thing and disappearing apps along with minor glitches tells me Verizon does not care about the consumer just the almighty dollar.
Tech support tier 1 and tier 2 have no clue how to fix problems. They just say here let me send you another refurbished phone so I can get you off the line and move on to the next caller.
And my VZWSupport on twitter is a joke they have not fixed anything it takes them all day to get back and they skirt issues you bring up to them about their flawed phones.
It does not matter if there is 4g or not. Ive been running my phone just on CMDA for a week or two now and it does not make the problem any better or worse.
Always this phone is a data fighter and Verizon doesn't care.
Unfortunately I'm not able to scroll through all of the subsequent posts and replies in the thread. Thank you for letting us know about the workaround. It's now several months later and my new Bionic has the same problem: multiple bars but will not have a data signal unless I'm using WiFi. Was Verizon able to come up with a fix or are we still toggling into and out of airplane mode?
Thanks
The soon-to-be-released update .902 is in final testing. Testers who had connection trouble before .902 are reporting that their connection problems are gone or much-reduced with .902.
Your connection troubles may be gone soon.

So I had this same issue with my new Bionic and what had happened was I installed so new launchers which I did not like but after I uninstalled them I kept getting the no data connection error and nothing was working unless I had wifi on. But I figured it out I went to the Settings > Battery and Data Manager > Data Delivery > and Data Enabled had been unchecked somehow. Once I rechecked that everything came backup fine, internet, company email, etc. I hope this helps someone.
Had this issue for about 2+ weeks now in SoCal. Nothing has been working except pulling the battery and rebooting the phone. Such a major pain in the ass!
I have lost my 4GLTE connection since the latest update for my Bionic was downloaded a week or so ago.. I'm in the Las Vegas, NV area where ther'es pretty much 4G everywhere in the valley. All I have now is connectivity to the 3G network. Looking at tother posts, not sure if changing out my SIM card is going to change anything. What a bunch of BS paying for a network that I can't access!!
Ok, I just got off the phone with Verizon Wireless' tech support. They were able to walk me through some procedures in settings that has reinstated my4G LTE connectivity! Yay! My call did include changing/re-setting some phone settings, pulling out the battery and SIM card. Tech support is advising me that there are some issues the latest update that has caused the loss of the 4G connection. I was also advised that "the new OS "Ice Cream Sandwich" will be rolling out soon.
Can you recall any of the changings/re-settings that they asked you to do? I think the majority of us have already tried the power cycle, battery removal, and SIM card re-seat method. I'm curious to what they had you try.
I'm hoping I can recall the entire process for you! When I called, I spoke to a guy named Rick who ask some basic questions and looked at my account etc, had me pull out battery only, restart. Since he could not figure out the issue, he forwarded me on to another tech person, who was a female , whose name I do not recall. But here's what she had me do. Again, I'm hoping I am not leaving out any step(s). Obviously, you need to call Verizon on another phone, not the cell with the problem.
This posting is the best of my recollection of the tech support walkthrough I went through to resolve my 4G connectivity issue. Hoiping others can benefit from this!!
Thanks for this. Going through this one bullet at a time, but tried many of these already. ::Crosses fingers::
I spoke to a Verizon tech today just to see if any headway is happening. She said even her coworkers with (mostly) HTC and Motorola phones are having the issue and everyone is just waiting on HTC and Motorola to roll out yet another update to supposedly resolve the issue.
I read up on some other posts and a temporary workaround that I'm trying out is to go into Settings / Wireless & Networks / Mobile Networks / Network Mode, and selecting CDMA only, which puts the phone down to 3G. Having 3Gs of data instead of no Gs is better than nothing until they friggin fix it.
I've also followed your post on how Verizon instructed you. Done them and so far it has worked for me on my Bionic also.
My 4G LTE is constantly BLUE!
Now if I wake in the morning and its still Blue, and stays Blue all day, I'll consider it THE FIX.
I'll give a follow up tomorrow.
Wish Verizon would get this worked out. I am in the Seattle market and every afternoon I intermittently loose data. I'm is a strong 4G area. The 4G goes from blue to white and I loose the ability to connect to any web pages.
Droid Bionic here in Sothern California. Had good 4G until the latest update...now 4G keeps going white and dropping data. Something got really messed up with the latest update about a month ago.
Mine has gone in and out since getting the phone in April. I've had one update since then. It seems to go in and out all the time.
I also have a Bionic (5.9.905) that has data issues since day one. I should have returned it then. What I have been doing is popping the phone in and out of Airplane Mode. It does work. Seems to be an authentication problem with the phone.
I am hopefull for a fix soon.
Hope this helps
I too am having data connectivity issues for about 7 - 8 months now. I have a Droid Bionic. Verizon is talking about fixes left and right and up and down, but nothing seems to have happened to really alleviate these issues, as apparent by these forums that continue today. My area is the Orlando, Fl area. It's not a small market so not sure why we're still having these 4G issues, from one of todays alleged "top carriers".
I've taken my phone back to Verizon and they changed the SIM card, and played with the phone for about an hour. No change… On a positive note, the people that work at the Verizon Store I go to are nothing short of incredible. Kudos to them… now having said that...
I'm not sure if Verizon seriously thinks that "power cycling" or "airplane-mode cycling" is acceptable. (Oh, an additional side note, airplane-mode cycling rarely works on my phone.) If I stopped paying for the time my phone was off line while repeating these steps every single day, no exaggeration, every single day, multiple times a day, seven days a week, I'm sure they would cancel my service for lack of full payment. Yet they expect us to be satisfied with the same old "working on the issues" story. We pay hard earned money for our respective data plans, we expect to have data available while our phones are active, or we need to start looking at breach of contract issues.
News Flash Verizon, with the change of data plans, and new activation fees… it's a real bad time to have this length of time with unresolved data problems. Read the forums… the masses are upset.
I've been with Verizon for years, and I've been more than satisfied with their services, hence why I was willing to pay more. After all, I'm a get what you pay for kind of guy. In the past I've toted the abilities of Big Red to all my "blue" and "yellow" friends, and our reliable, and all but flawless service. But lately I'm having my share of problems being able to do that with these 4G problems, and the lack of resolution therein. Let's think about this. What is the use of having the "world's fastest 4G network… sometimes"?
I truly hope these issues are resolved, and in the very near future. For when my contract is up, if I'm getting Sprint data reliability, I might as well be paying Sprint prices. Good luck all!
When we upgraded my boyfriend's line before the plans changed, a salesman literally told us they had been giving the Bionics away for free so they could get rid of them and they wouldn't be carrying them once the were gone. Yet they had 3 displayed in the store for free. I had already gotten my Bionic in April and I love it. My only complaint is the data connection issue. The other day while I was at a friend's house, I noticed every time I opened an app, I would lose my connection. A little while after closing the app, it would come back. This doesn't happen everywhere though. I must say since my boyfriend got the Razr, my Bionic looks ancient. I wish I would've gotten it instead.
I never noticed an issues prior to 5.9.905. Now I have constant issues and sometimes lock the phone into 3G just to have consistent access. LTE is great when I can get it and sometimes I can go hours without an issue and other times I can not get the phone to hold a connection for more than a few minutes.
Since posting my data connection has gotten worse. I had little to no issues when I got this phone in April. I've been paying more attention since finding this thread. Yesterday it was almost impossible to use anything data related, no matter where I was. I was in several different cities yesterday and it made no difference. I would have full signal, but when I tried to use Google or Facebook or navigation....no data connection.
Well let me join the club. I live in the Atlanta area where 4G signal has always been strong. My co-worker and I have the Bionic and are having the same issues. I think my problems started after this last updat. Data cuts off and on whenever. I've called Verizon twice on this. Each time they give me a ticket number or something, but I never hear back. I shouldn't have to pay for something that I can't use.
My boyfriend's Razr is now having the same issues, even after the ICS update. Today I had to make my phone a hotspot so he could get on the internet. Mine is now pretty much a constant problem. I've tried the trick of changing back & forth between airplane mode, but that doesn't work. Removing the battery for a few seconds does seem to help, but considering I have an Otter Box, that's a pita to do. I guess being able to hang on to my unlimited data package isn't such a big deal considering I can rarely USE any data!!!
If you check many of the 4G LTE phone forums this problem is across many
platforms. Verizon needs to figure out if it's a DNS issue or some network
related problem keeping lte phones from connecting to the Google servers .
If you want the truth read this..

Thanks for the update. I guess this makes sense, or at least a plausible explantion. But my Bionic was working just fine until 2 months ago, so I wonder if it's becuase the network is now saturated with more and more LTE phones coming online everyday, that it can't handle the increased authentication requests.
Too bad 90% of most Verizon employees aren't aware of this. I fear that my 9 month old Bionic will see no love anytime soon. I'm even losing hope for ICS.
I am in Seattle and have the same issue - I called Verizon and got a $75 data refund for the last several months, but I am still not happy and the data is still not working. Does anyone know a good attorney that can help us return our phones and get a full ($200 or so) refund for a phone that does not work? We can issue a class action lawsuit if Verizon is not willing to cooperate. Anyone else agree with me?
Maybe this might be our answer. Read this article put out my Motorola.

Finally this morning I received the ICS update. Wow it's amazing! Solid 4G LTE signal. The phone is now soooo much quicker. Everything working great. Sorry to hear from so many other Bionic owners that are having issues with their phones. Hopefully they will all be corrected.
