Droid RAZR keeps restarting

My Droid is only 2 weeks old and tonight it just started restarting over every time you tried to do anything it just rebooted. So I tried to use a backup app and it backed up about 2 item sets and then it restarted again. So I decided I would just shut it down, went to power off it started to power down and just retarted once and then hung at the screen where it just has droid written in white and will not reboot at all. No restart or anything, just hung.

Try booting in safe mode and see if the issue still exist, if the problems goes away then this indicates a bad app causing the issue and then try removing last apps recently installed..

Enable Safe mode

Power the device off.
Press and hold the Power button then select Power off.
Power the device on.
Press and momentarily hold the Power button.
When the Motorola Dual Core screen appears, simultaneously press and hold Volume Up / Down keys.
Continue to hold the Volume Up / Down keys until Safe mode appears in the lower left.
While in Safe Mode, remove the most recently installed applications.
Power cycle the device then attempt to use the device.
If the device works properly, install applications one at a time to identify the application causing the problem.

Disable Safe mode

Power the device off.
Press and hold the Power button then select Power off.
Power the device on.
Press the Power button.

I am having a similar problem, my droid razr keeps restarting and I've tried pretty much everything. I even did a complete factory reset, wiping both the SD and the internal memory, and now the furthest I get is the screen where you you get pick your language and start the setup process. The phone says something like "preparing internal storage, this may take a few minutes." Then it powers off and starts up again. What should I do next? Is this a motorola issue or verizon issue?

If you have tried all reset options and the device continues to not boot correctly it sounds like a hardware issue and the device may need to be replaced, I would contact CS about your issue.

I called Tech support and they told me all the same things. I have my THIRD handset in the mail now BOTH of them restarted themselves IN Safe mode and NO ONE can tell me why. After tech support shrugging and determining it MUST be a hardware issue (when in safe mode its like a computer safe mode only the OS and necessary drivers start up no 3rd party apps are loaded [per tech support] if it restarts in this mode it is one of two things the OS or hardware). I find it hard to believe after being a Verizon customer for 11+ years now I have only replaced 1 other phone, I got TWO that have hardware failures?! no way. I am forced to believe it is an OS/hardware interaction problem...this is some crap. I went to the store and they said "Well since you have a lot of apps we dunno what it is" SERIOUSLY?! their own tech support said it has to be hardware or OS problems since Safe Mode did NOT help so why the hell isn't the store on board with their own tech help?! The manager (after I tore his head off, sorry dude) told me to give it a third go and if the "soft brick" or boot loop happens a THIRD time he'll trade me a different phone at no charge...since this is the best phone that fits my needs I am not overly pleased with THAT option either why cant they figure this out?! What is going on? Again after 11 years this has me thinking about changing carriers...this phone connects all of my OTHER techie toys and is excellent for my business that I operate from my living room. I LOVE this phone when it works!

After my Razr doing quite well for 3 days last night, I plugged it in to my computer to back it up just in case...I had just moved the apps to the other partition (they call it media storage but isnt that what the sd card is for? otherwise of the 16G internal memory you are wasting 8G of it!) anyway, I had not moved anything over before this but the phone was telling me repeatedly that I needed to move some of the apps so I did and it worked fine no restarting itself. I plugged in to the computer and BAM that it was damn reboot screen as I held my breath and began to pray for this friggin phone to work it...didnt. kept restarting (this is the THIRD SET) I went to the store this morning and an awesome manager there named Nate traded my Razr straight up no restocking fee no nothing for a Galaxy Nexus. Now he and I are BOTH praying that issue will not repeat itself for if it does I may have to jump ship on Android and go with an iphone (I feel so dirty for saying that). I LOVE google and Chrome is my favorite browser so, I am really hoping I love this Nexus as much as that browser. They are fully integrated with each other which is very cool. I am installing all of my apps on it now and will then plug it in to add music to it and see how that goes but, yes I still am praying everytime I plug this phone in to the computer or everytime I take a damn call that it wont just cut out and keep rebooting!

I was having the same issue.

I found it to be an app from the amazon app store. I haven't narrowed down which one. But it appears on this phone they can cause it to stall and reboot. Probably a memory leak as mine would have issues after 12-16 hours and reboot 5-6 time before running ok again. Usually during the issue it would boot up with a black back ground and not let me change it. Also sometimes would loop the boot animation till I did a force reboot.

Not sure if yours was the same issue but definitely has similar aspects. I

narrowed mine down to 1 of 2 things...1. moving the crap over to the media

storage area (it started a continuous reboot about 2 hours later) 2.

plugging it in to the computer all 3 times mine did the fatal dance of

reboot it was while it was plugged in to my computer. I got a REALLY GOOD

manager at the Verizon store and he offered me what ever phone I wanted

basically just to stop this issue understand of course I have been with

this store and Verizon for 11 years now and I run a business and my husband

is an Active Duty soldier (a HUGE deal up here in the Pacific Northwest) he

just wanted me to have something that would work for me as I wanted also.

SO, long story...we longer I guess =0) Is that 7 days ago I traded my Razr

in and since I could not stomach the thought of an iPhone at all I got the

Nexus and come to find out I LOVE IT! I love it MUCH MUCH more than the

Razr. I was so stuck in my Droid bubble (after having owned the OG Droid

that I loved) that I refused to hear about the Nexus that the sales chick

tried to talk to us about like I knew what I wanted and that was it. But

this Nexus is kicking the Razrs butt big time in my book. I love Chrome

and it totally syncs with it. Not to mention I don't ever back up my phone

(nothing) it all is SYNCED with my Google Profile...serioulsy?! I so did

not know about that before this mess (I read up on it after talking to the

manager on the phone (again Nathan from Puyallup Verizon store ROCKS) he

told me to study up and figure out which one I wanted so...I am VERY sorry

you are still having those issues with the Razr I feel for you completely

but I just couldn't deal and tagged out. Maybe you should give that a go

if it is possible...if not again I am sorry and I'll keep this e-mail in

the even I find something out that may help. Good Luck with your Razr...

I have this issue as well. System will just continuously reboot itself. Your post confirms my belief that it is the VOLUME of apps that I have, not any specific app. I have spent way more time on this than I should to prove this to myself. I spent an entire day at one point loading apps 1 to 5 at a time... no problems. Phone worked fine for a while... then the rebooting started. It seems to be a memory allocation issue if I were to take a wild guess.

I have done MANY factory resets. However, what I have found is that if you restart your phone numerous times it will eventually get to a solid state... may run for weeks before crashing again. Motorola spent hours on the phone with me and even pushed a new version of the OS out to me... same problem though.

Last time it happened I plugged it in. Left it off for a few minutes then turned it on and came back to it about an hour later and all was good.... not sure there is any magic to that, but I am having trouble right now getting to a solid boot, so I may try it.

Good luck to all. I am hoping that Ice Cream Sandwich comes out soon and solves the problem.

I doubt it is any one app from the Amazon app store... only the fact that you (like many of us) load a lot of apps when we use the Amazon app store... because we get a free app every day...

The volume seems to be the issue. Not any singular app. If you find a particular app that seems to fix this them please post ASAP.

Mine will take longer to reboot in Safe Mode.... but it will still reboot... I just have to keep trying to get it into a good configuration.

Wow that's too bad, I had 200 apps on my Fascinate with no issues. Since I got the Maxx I didn't put all the apps on my phone that was on my last one, in fact I've only put 6 apps on the phone in addition to stock apps. Why would they put out a phone that can't handle a large volume of apps?

The memory allocation is a good thought. I did have quite a few apps. I had all of them on my OG Droid (which I rooted and flashed to Gingerbread 2.3.2 AND overclocked the kernels) it was no problem at all. The tech line kept asking why I was moving the apps to the "Media Storage area" all I have to say to that is #1 the phone alerts you to do that and #2 WHAT do I need media storage internally for when it says in YOUR description that the removable sd card is for your media?! The phone runs faster after you move your apps over and they don't start by themselves when they are moved so no draining your battery VERY necessary in the Droid Razr! I thought I narrowed it down to either moving the apps over or plugging the phone in to the computer after moving the apps over. Since I had NO Amazon anything on my phone I have to nix that idea...not the free apps and not the Amazon app itself. Also I have all loaded on my Nexus plus some that I ditched while dealing with the Razr issues and IT is fine. I am close to not holding my breath when it restarts too...close but not quite there yet.

I have become glad that this issue happened with ME, not thee rest of you at all because it shoved me violently in to a phone that works better for me and just fits me better (the size and the balance of the Razr were wonky for me) I use my phone ALOT one handed and the Razr makes that close to impossible with my size hands. (I am a female but have pretty big hands for that gender my grandfather called them farm girl hands, large and capable hands) but that Razr is top heavy big time and with the cords plugged in also it was almost impossible to use one handed...just saying the Nexus FITS me better all around. So I am glad this popped my Droid bubble...I think it is CRAP that Verizon and Motorola refuse to acknowledge this issue when obviously it is not an individual one. (FYI I had 150 apps on my Razr [business operations and toddler stuff PLUS teenager stuff'] I have a 3 yr old a 12 yr old and own/run a business) I now have 190 apps on my Nexus and it is going strong, I have had 0 issues.

I am glad to hear you like your Nexus.... I heard too much about their issues for me to want to try them... I just keep trying to figure out the Razr.

I am even more convinced that it is the number of apps that causes the problem, and I have completely ruled out Amazon (which Motorola tried to blame).

I did a factory reset.

I reinstalled using a new Google account (test account) so that there would be no settings imported that could cause the problem.

I downloaded most (excluding task killers, battery control apps and the like) of the apps from Play's first 11 pages (24 per page on my screen). By my estimate this would be about 230+ apps.

Amazon was never installed.

The constant rebooting started again.... This in NO WAY FILLED UP THE MEMORY on the Droid. This device should be able to do this with its eyes closed.

In another test it appears it is the ANDROID SYSTEM that is crashing (per Watchdog) , not some third party app.

I guess I have to limit the number of apps I load until Motorola gets a clue and fixes this.... but then why have a device with all that power and memory????

Well i have only had VZW for about a month and a half now. Bought the RAZR 16GB White and it keeps restarting aswell. Im on my 2nd replacement which I just received less than 5 hrs ago and its been restarting ever since I turned it on. When I try sending a picture, log onto Facebook, etc. I got off with CC not too long ago and he said that if this 3rd replacement doenst work out that they will switch the phone to something that does work and I am happy with. Ive been doing research on the samsung NEXUS and that thing looks B.E.A.S.T....especially with the new Ice Cream Sandwhich interface Im sure it will do way better and from the looks of customer reviews it does. I Love the RAZR but damn when you cant even send a pic or browse the web with out it starting makes it seems like if the RAM on the phone cant handle any multi tasks. So much for a Dual Core processor.........ill stay updated with what happens on Thursday when I receive the 3rd phone....

Did you by chance when installing the Sim Card in the first Razr touch the gold area of it . Or was it put in at the store if so there could be a possibility it was touched in the gold area! We all have static Electricity in our fingers an oil on them.. An if they come in contact with the gold area of the card it could cause failure. Remember all the important stuff that makes the phone work is on the Sim. I would Re-Order a new Sim Card or go by the Store an get a new one an try it again but if that does Not fix the issue Replace the Razr. Wrote By B33

I installed an app killer "advanced task killer" seems to have remedied my

issue with rebooting when you have over 200+ apps. This leads me to

believe it's some sort of memory leak with a moto app.

I am glad you found something, but a crappy part to that is the #1 thing

they tell you when you call tech support is to ditch the Task Killers as

these phones are supposed to "manage themselves" and that the ATK's (Auto

Task Killers) will CAUSE the issue...of course after YEARS of Microsoft and

ASUS Tech support proving how little they know I am not surprised that you

found something else with the advice this tech support gives!

I tried this without success. Loaded the Advanced Task Killer app and then loaded a bunch of apps - moved a bunch to the media area to free up memory - and the restarting / rebooting started again - just like always.

I tried different settings on Advanced Task Killer - but no luck. Did you have any specific settings that you used?

I did not have any problems with ATK at all I used the Task Manager that

came with the phone I did have a BUNCH of apps added to the automatic kill

listing though. It helped with battery power. I stated in an earlier post

that I really think mine was either moving all the apps I could to the

media storage area (SUCH a stupid name for it Motorola...) or plugging it

in to my computer and getting a phone call while it was connected via usb.

One of those two are what did me in 3 times with 3 different Razrs. The

last Razr I never even took the stickers off the screen because I knew it

would croak...I did it IN FRONT of a Verizon Wireless Manager! He just

looked at me and said pick whatever phone you want. He offered me the 64G

iPhone from Verizon (No extra charge) I could not do that its like 2x the

price!) and I am not an iPhone girl. The geek in me likes the Google! So

I got a Nexus and I am really really happy now that all this happened to me

with the Razr, I LOVE my Nexus and my hubby still has his Razr going strong

but he only uses it as a PHONE, like who does that?! so his is fine but

every time I use it for something it feels really wonky and awkward to hold

in my hand (it always did for me) and I don't like the battery

incorporation. One last note, and coming from me this is a CRAZY thing to

say but, I have no need to jail break my Nexus?! The Razr I was pondering

just that within a month or so (5 weeks was the first breakdown so damn

good thing I held off!) I rooted and changed the OS of my OG Droid and it

is running Gingerbread 2.2.3 which it was never meant to have and that one

is still doing GREAT! Its now the kids' Android gaming device at home...

I also have been getting the rebooting issue lately. It always happens after I have powered down my phone. What seems to have worked for me is when the phone reboots itself and lock screen comes back up I hold the power button and volume down key till the screen goes off. It then reboots again. The lock screen comes up and I wait for the screen to go off on its own. I want to make sure the systems loads everything in to memory that it needs to. For whatever reason the phone just seems to work correctly after this.

I am very glad that works for your phone, it did not for mine. In the

beginning of having the issue I would have to use that hard reboot trick

(since the battery is not removable without voiding the warranty according

to Verizon)if I did it 3-5 times it would work but eventually that even

stopped working and when I plugged it in to my computer or would play a

resource heavy game (like Sims Freeplay or Sims 3) and got a call at the

same time it would crash EVERY TIME. of course with 3 different units it

got to the point they would not stop rebooting. The only and most complete

way I solved my issue was talking to a VERY understanding and totally

awesome store manager who swapped me the Droid Razr for a Galaxy Nexus

which I LOVE! The Nexus fits me and my life much better with managing a

business, kids, home and all that goes with those this Nexus can multitask

like crazy! and I like the shape and weight of it much better also. BUT,

after a month of owning it I STILL get nervous every time I have to

re-start it or plug it in to my computer. I still hold my breath a bit and

hope it wont die on me too. I admit I have become totally dependent on

this piece of technology it manages my LIFE. It is sad and I almost psych

my self up for plugging it in to the computer or restarting it. I am

approaching the point that I am glad this happened with the Razr just to

make me look at the Nexus because when I went to buy the Razr in December I

was having NO part of that Nexus smack talk, wanted NO part of it and if I

had gotten the Nexus then it would have been like shoulda, coulda,

woulda...my hubby has had NO problems with his Razr and I am not sure I

would have appreciated my Nexus as much if I had gone with that one first.

But now using his phone is really wonky and awkward for me so...I guess it

is all about what ever works for YOU and you have to make it work.. We

should have to work with technology IT should work FOR us, and if it

doesn't it is not the right one for you...that is my discovery and my ah ha

moment at the end of this journey...it was some work too.

I have my third Moto Droid Razr with the same problem. Does not seem to matter if you add apps or leave it factory fresh, it will go into the reset cycle.

Went in to the Verizon store and spoke to the manager today and he held the company line. Stated that there is no problem and nothing on the internal VZW blogs. He can have them send another phone out (would be the 4th) and can't seem to understand why I do not want another. Needs to look up the definition of insanity.

Gonna call the regional manager and corporate folks to see if I can get this replaced. Highly advise anyone not to buy this phone.

For each of the phones you replaced did you use the same Sim for it. If that's So i would get another Sim Card an see if the Razr responds Better to it an when you get the Sim Avoid! Contact with Gold Area of it.

Through some experimentation and remembering having installed an app on my D1 called "Watchdog" (mentioned I think earlier in this thread?) before my D1's screen stayed black - common among a lot of older MotoDroid models.

Watchdog has improved vastly since then (2 years ago at least), and running it, I have found - for me - a few runaway apps.

One is a seriously RAM-leaker called Xiialive, believe it or not. GReat Internet Radio Streamer, but leaks like a sive, and I now have Watchdog kill it. Another app that is large and if its Notifications are set to ON, will fill your phones main mem of 40-45MB, the app itself is only 14MB! Wha!? Well, it happens. A lot.

Now, with the paid version, I can blacklist (paid version only) these apps when they reach high CPU.

Unfortunately, the REAL monitoring we need is RAM consumption kills. THAT would be useful, but in general High CPU usually translates into High RAM in smaller devices.

So, in short, these constant reboots are INDEED caused by too much RAM comnsumed too fast. One way to monitor this is to use any App Killer, and as soon as the phone boots enough so you can get into that app, manually Kill alll the apps that popup during the remaining bootup - you will see apps you never thought would be running, how much RAM they take up, and which apps might need some settings tweaks.

I have been running tests with Watchdog, and it has warned me indeed of these three mentioned culprits. <Content deleted per the TOS>

Since starting these experiments I have also noticed that now, when I turn my D4 off, it actually STAYS OFF. This makes some sense as RAM will retain its charge when the device cycles off, but if RAM is not killed properly, there may still be code within that causes the reboot on purpose, could actually be some safe-mode thing: in that I also notice after a cycle of device-induced reboot, that on return, the SD and Internal stires are NOT prepared aswith a normal boot - why? Becuase of the RAM charged retention - the bits are still there, havent been cleared - bad OS coding if ya ask me, and ya didnt!

Until I implemented the manual app killing (using App Killer) while the boot process was still underway (after being able to unlock the phone after the initial bootup phase), I was chasing my tale with all kinds of two-button, three-button dances, until the phone would finally "settle". The only reason the devices will finally "settle" is probably due to the nature of Anroid OSes, where I hear they are supposed to monitor and log-compare their own behavior, including sandboxing and booting. Apparently they also need to Shut Off sequences to the code base.

I too have this problem. I have tried almost every combination of 'voodoo magic' to keep this Razr from rebooting, but nothing is working. I can't really find any sort of clue as to why it does this. I have noticed that when I'm running Wi-Fi, it happens more frequently. Usually, after about 20 hours of letting it reboot on its own, then charging the battery, removing the SIM and SD card, booting it...then when it finally boots up, telling me the SIM card is missing, I manually turn off the unit. Then install the SIM card. Start the Razr. Let it load everything, then I add the SD card. That seems to work for about two days. Then the whole routine again. I don't have the time to go to the Verizon store to get another one, then load everything I have back on to that one. I've reset my phone twice, and it still rebooted. I also read this forum and did the 'Safe Mode', and it STILL happened.

I previously owned the Droid X and it had similar issues.

I will never purchase a Motorola Droid again.

Have you tried a new Sim Card you might give that one more try as there might be a Feature there leaving out on your Plan or Settings that was transferred to the from your X to the Sim that is now in your Razr. Have C.S. or have a Tear 2 go over the Setting just make sure something is not un checked or feature left out. It's disappointing to have a new phone not to work but if an Important & honest step is left out that can make a difference out it will operate.. b33

My RAZR started the reboot dance today as well. This happened on my Droid 2 and it was replaced 3 times before someone told me in a forum that the problem could be a corrupt file in the .Android_secure directory on the SD card. I took the SD card out and used my computer to find the file and delete it. My Droid 2 had 458 apps installed on it. My wife and the Verizon store personnel all believed that it was the number and quality of the apps installed on my phone that caused this problem.

So I upgraded to a RAZR about 17 days ago. It has been running fine. I even managed to root it. Today I connected it to my computer and I deleted some jpg files in the DCIM directory and it then started behaving badly and rebooting.

While it was hooked up to my computer I did get a couple of phone calls on the RAZR so there may be something to what randas78 said. I have put the phone in Safe mode and tried deleting the last app installed but the phone rebooted before I could do that. I ran a task killer to kill apps but the phone rebooted while doing that. I did not install all of the apps that I had before (on pain of death by my wife) so I only had .... er... more than 250 but less than 350 apps and widgets installed.

I had moved some apps to the internal sdcard or media area or whatever they call it. My physical external sdcard or real sdcard does not get accessed for writing. The apps find the pictures and music on the real SDcard but when I move apps to the "sdcard" they go to the internal one.

Any thoughts or ideas on how to stop this reboot circus?

to do a full flash, it does not work, bi cuz it says 'not to program'

Hi w5a and all the other members of the RAZR community! Random reboots on your phone are definitely frustrating, especially after performing a master reset. I have some troubleshooting steps for you.

First of all, there was a software reset on this device in early May. Please make sure your device has the most recent software (Menu>Settings>About Phone>Software Version). You can check the device and manually pull the software update as well, if you did not get it (Menu>Settings>About Phone>System Updates). Second, I'd like to extend my thanks to the community for providing the steps on how to put the phone in safe mode. This is a good step to try, in case apps are conflicting in the background. I would also recommend removing any anti-virus applications or task killer applications (Menu>Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Downloaded). Then choose any and all anti-virus apps and task killer apps, and uninstall them. Once this is done, please monitor the device. If you did have any anti-virus apps or task killer apps installed, you have uninstalled them, and it's still happening, please try another master reset at this link:http://bit.ly/z30zKf

Thank you for this. I went to Verizon from Sprint after twelve years (broke my contract) because the Sprint signal seems to be getting worse over the years, and they have just now started LTE. I bought a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Worst phone I ever owned. Appears to be a big software issue, and even though 4.0.4 was released by Google months ago, Verizon is still sitting on it, and the radios were horrid and battery life worse. I travel a lot on business and couldn't keep a telephone call without dropping. So I booted it for the RAZR MAXX two days ago. Spent hours getting the new phone up to snuff. This morning I'm in boot hell. I noticed first that my battery did not charge overnight, odd.So I turned the MAXX off and restarted, and next thing I'm in an infinite loop of reboots. I managed to activate Advanced Task Killer in between boots, and configure it the way you recommended in a later post. So far no problems. But now I fear powering down the phone. I too have 300+ apps. Just when I was relieved in getting rid of the Galaxy Nexus, now this with the RAZR MAXX. I think I'll go back to a flip phone.

300+ Apps you sure there isn't any more room for More! I think if i was you i would be getting Rid of some Apps. I have 51 apps on my Maxx and i think that is too Much for it. Although i probably could add a Few to it. But 300+ that's Over Kill for Any phone in my Book..

I tried to contact Verizon re: my phone not working and after going through the usual form nonsense I got the message : If your phone is not working you need to call Verizon.

Does this make sense to anyone at Verizon?

I'm not sure how to call since my phone is not working. Maybe I should add a line and sign another 2 year contract. Then I could get a new phone ( not this 6 day old piece of junk I currently have ).

I got this phone May 23 and it worked great for nearly a whole week. Now it keeps rebooting, so I basically have a $300 paperweight and a new hobby as a Do it yourself phone technician. Love this stuff.

Why is it my job to make the product work? Don't Motorola and Verizon have anyone on staff who could maybe ship a product and provide a service that worked for more than six days? It seems like a business model that would be well received by people who already have other things to do ( careers, families, and whatnot ).

I'll go through the message boards and keep trying to get this f%$g phone to work, but I would really love to see some attempt at corporate accountability and customer service.

Ok i will Give you a Few pointers you can Try:

First i Listed Trying a Soft Reset in my post Above: Here are a Few other things you can Try As Well But if they Don't You may be Faced with Taking the Phone to the Store for a Flash or Basically a Factory Reset or a you may have to Replace it..

Safe mode is a method that allows the device to run without non-essential applications. This is beneficial for troubleshooting 3rd party applications.

Enable Safe mode

Power the device off.
Press and hold the Power button then select Power off.
Power the device on.
Press and momentarily hold the Power button.
When the Motorola Dual Core screen appears, simultaneously press and hold Volume Up / Down keys.
Continue to hold the Volume Up / Down keys until Safe mode appears in the lower left.

Disable Safe mode

Power the device off.
Press and hold the Power button then select Power off.
Power the device on.
Press the Power button.

If Doing that Does Not Help Try this:

This is the Instruction on doing a Clearing of the Cache Partition you can also do a Factory Reset with These Instructions..

Top Alternate method

Power the device off.
Press the Power button then select Power off.
If the device doesn't respond to input, press and hold the Volume Up / Down then press and holdPower button. When the device screen goes blank release the Power button while continuing to holdVolume Up / Down, proceed with step 3.
Press and hold the Volume Up / Down then press the Power button.
When presented with the Boot Mode Selection Menu release all buttons.
Press Volume Down to select Recovery then press Volume Up.
From the Droid triage screen, simultaneously press Volume Up / Down.
Select Clear the Cache Partition then press the Power button.
Select reboot system now then press the Power button.

If doing a Clearing of the Cache Partition Does Not Work i Would Try this: It's a Factory Reset But if you Feel Uneasy about do one Go to you Local Corparate Store an they Can Flash your Phone an that should get it Back on Track..

Alternate method

Power the device off.
Press the Power button then select Power off.
If the device doesn't respond to input, press and hold the Volume Up / Down then press and hold Power button. When the device screen goes blank release the Power button while continuing to hold Volume Up / Down, proceed with step 3.

Data wipe may take several moments.

Refer to Initial Activation and Setup.

Thanks, I did get it to open in safe mode. Now do I start uninstalling apps? Is there any explanation for the glitch? I had the phone hooked to my computer when the problem started. Is this what caused the problem?

You Could have Contracted something from your Computer onto your Phone a Bad File or Something Like That. Eh! the only suggestion i have if as you said it happen from the Computer is a Factory Reset and it might Not hurt Clearing the SD Card as Well. But before you Do this NOTE you will need to Back up your Contacts an other important things. Taking it to the Store they can Flash it For Ya as i mentioned an then you would be basically were you Wore when you got it New...

Hello All,

I had a RAZR for 5 months then cracked the screen. This one had no issues. The replacement they sent me rebooted constantly and would lose signal. After some frustrations, I decide to take a "Task Wipe" and 99% Isopropyl alcohol to my SIM card to remove any residue. After I did this and rebooted the phone the issue seemed to be resolved.

I hope this helps. Make sure you use a "Task Wipe" for this not a tissue or paper towel. They are not designed for cleaning sensitive electronics.

I'm having the same problem. I had to swap in my original Droid Razr because the headphone jack stopped working. They shipped me a new phone, and now less than a week after getting my new phone, it's stuck in a reboot loop. I guess I'll call Verizon tomorrow and try to get the problem fixed.

Task Wipe EEE! Ok well that's Good that it Worked But how about i Give you a Suggestion for you to Try next time even though Alcohol will evaporate eventually better than Water there is something better you can use on Sim Cards But you have to be very Gentle with the Contacts or they can Be Damaged! An Eraser one that is small in Diameter and a non porous type you can also use what is Called a Gold Guard Pen witch is a Special Pen just for Gold Contacts.

I found some instructions an some pictures of a Gold Guard Pens that can be used on Sim cards This pen will restore the Sim back to it's original State.!

I had this problem with my DROID RAZR. I'm convinced the problem in in the SIM Card. First, while the phone is crapping the bed in this fashion, I have no Cell signal. Second, the problem migrated to my replacement phone. And, since it does this with the SD card removed, the SIm card is the only common denominator between the two phones. I know many people who have not had a single problem with their RAZR, but from this forum it appears that once someone has had one failure, each of their replacement phones fails in a similar fashion. It does not inspire confidence that Verizon continues to throw phones at this problem when the answer should be clear to them.

I know this is just complaining, but I would really appreciate a phone that just works. I am not really interested in becoming technically proficient. I have other hobbies and interests. When I brought the phone to Verizon the clerk suggested I buy some sort of landline thing for the low price of $20.00 per month. Why should I give a company $20.00 a month for a service I already give them $100.00 a month to provide and which they fail to deliver with any consistency. It is as if someone sold me a lousy car and then acted like they were doing me a favor by renting me a car since mine was always in the shop. AAargh.

Well if keeps on having issues go to were you bought it and Ask to talk to the Manager tell them the Issue your having and what the Rep that you talked to Suggested. Tell the Manger you wasn't pleased in the Reps Response. See if the Manger can trouble shoot the Issue and if not. Make a suggest of Flashing the phone that's what i would Do..

I thought this was the same issue I am having with my Motorola Droid Razr M. Unfortunately it is not. But for those searching these forums looking for an answer to "My Droid Razr M stopped working" or similar maybe this will help: Press and hold the volume down button + the power button for 10 seconds.

I had a similar problem of Motorola Razr battery draining-rebooting loop. I uninstalled Quicken 2013 Mobile and the problem seemed to have gone away - but, alas, it returned shortly after.

So I now suspect it may be the Android e-mail app, which I configured for Exchange mail the other day. Will advise...

I too had this issue and while the reboot and cache clearing does help it is not something I think one should have to do repeatedly in order for your device to work properly. What I found through numerous trials and errors is that if you replace the home launcher it eliminates the problem completely. One that I recommend is Nova Launcher, it has been working with out a reboot in 5 days and I used to get a reboot 3 to 5 times per day. I am not affiliated with this app what so ever and maybe there are other home launchers that work better. Another thing I noticed is that, what I believe to be the root cause to the stock launcher crashing is that when an app or program is acting up it does not give you the pop up message that the app is not responding from which you can kill it, report it or wait. With the new launcher this has happened and is not really a problem because nothing is flawless.

Try Running your Phone in Safe Mode and see if that helps stop the restarting if does start Looking at the Apps you have you may have to get rid of a bad app..

I have had my razr for about 3 months now and it was working fine until today when it started going on and off and freezing. i have tried the hard reset and everything else that the people at the store told me to try. they told me i will have to pay the insurance deductible to get another one but apparently i am not the only person with this problem so i doubt that the crack has anything to do with the way it is acting. also that crack happened maybe two weeks after i bought it and it worked fine for the next few months until today.

I joined the ranks of former Droid Razr users. Mine started the death coniptions yesterday. I tried the SIM card thing, factory reset, the bang it on the desk thing, but still continuous rebooting.

I'll dig out my old Droid and get that one back on line and use the RAZR for a door stop.

If The Sim Card is bad pulling it out and re-installing isn't going to help anything the phone will still respond as it was) You wouldn't be out anything getting a re-placement but if you hit the phone hard enough on the Desk i'd say the Damage is already Done..

My Droid Razr Maxx started doing the same thing after a system update June 22nd. I called tech support and they determined I needed a replacement phone which they sent to me over night. I think the system update screwed something up with my original phone and they don't want to admit it. Replacement phone works just fine.

I was getting the occasional shutoff and also falling off the mobile network. Called support and I had already re-booted only to be back online when the rep "helped me". Minutes after finishing with the rep the phone falls off the network.

The most basic element I learned from this forum was to clean the sim card. I used compressed air and optical cleaning wipes (dry) . Took the cards out, it looked dusty in the slots. I blew them clean, wiped the cards and reinstalled and voila! its working real well now. Its been 6 hours and all is well. I will report in a couple of days if the clean sim cards made a difference.
