SD CARD ISSUES

This is my 3rd dx recieved it yesterday morning put in freshly charged battery showed 20% charge did hard reset showed full charge..I went ahead and did factory reset.I then activated the phone noticed on android forum new update avialble so I went to settings and installed update phone worked great no reboots ,no problem making calls.I think they have os working good. Well this eveningI started to use phone and it says my sd is needing formated so I pushed format nothing happened.I shut down phone and pulled sd and reinstalled worked fine after that.Now if Ibump the phone it will start showing bad sd card and I can shake phone and it clears sd card and works finefor a few minutes and it says sd card might need formatted but when you tell it to format nothing happens.Ichecked it on laptop and reads good .Tryed it in wifes dx and it says ok.Is it possible the sd slot has to much play in slot?this is 3rd replacement.Has this happened to anyone else?

Hey I was the one that started this thread.I don't understand some of you people.This is the third DX I have had.The first 3 had the issues that the update fixed. They are sending me another phone Monday.I always call tech supoport the people in the stores aren't trained to repair phones I never go to store with a problem thats what online tech support is for

I have never had any problems talking to them and they are nice to me.I talked to a tier 2 tech. and he agreed I have a bad phone and I will have another phone Monday.If you talk nice to them they talk nice to you.All phones and all companies have a few problems it is any all phones all brands so talk to them the way that you want people to talk to you.

I have also gone through 3 Droid X's. And my issue appears to be a SD card issue. I record a video and it seems if the video is too long, it will not play back. Instead I get "file cannot be displayed" error message. I asked the Verizon rep about it and they said since I was having this same issue through 3 different phones, it was probably an issue with the card but they will not replace it-I would have to contact Motorola. And I think it is complete and total crap. If I bought the phone WITH a card from Verizon and the phone is covered under a manufacturer's warranty still, if I have to send the phone back and the CARD is the issue, it should have ALSO been replaced by Motorola when I sent the SECOND phone back. I also learned that bc I pay for the extended warranty, it give the phone a lifetime manufacturer's warranty. So even though I am on my THIRD phone, Motorola will continue to send me the same crap phone over and over, I guess until they no longer make it. I thought an extended warranty would be a BETTER thing to have. Not an option that ties my hands behind my back!

I know that this is the kind of response that gets me in trouble, but...

I absolutely agree, someone, Verizon or Moto should replace the card, no question. However, my time being as valuable as it is (to me, who else matters?) and the fact that I otherwise like the phone, I would go out and buy a new frigging SD card. While my experience with VZW customer service has generally been good, I have found the 21st-century idea of customer service to be sketchy at best and to vary wildly from vendor to vendor. Which is why I tend to take these matters into my own hands.

Yes, it's the principal, yes, they should make it right. However, A, do you like the phone and B, what is your time worth?

That's my answer. One of the forum defense attorneys should be along any minute now to defend you from such a harsh response. Let the game begin...

I have had a sd card get corrupted on me with my Eris. Thankfully I was able to recover the data. However I didn't bother VZW with asking for a new sd card. I happened to already have a sd card of the same size, but higher class around the house. I copied the data from the original card onto the new one and put it in the phone. I formated the original card. I continued to use the second card until recently when I needed to use a clean card in the phone. I popped back in the original card.

Sandisk is the one that handles all sd card replacements, its something they like to keep internal--motorla most likely won't replace it.

You pay verizon for service, that service can be on any device YOU bring. They want you to have a working phone, but at the same time they can only provide the service, you get to choose what device to get that service on. The extended warranty is not really needed in this day and age--most likely you won't want that same phone in 2-3 years..

No, they won't usually replace the card. Common sense (or maybe the polite way of saying it) experience.......will tell you that dishing out the $50, or whatever they cost, is the easiest way to resolve the issue.

Apparently, SD cards are viewed as consumable items. You wouldn't expect Dell, or HP to replace some blank CD ROMS they threw in with your computer purchase, would you?

Second, I find it disturbing that there has been at least five threads about SD card issues after the .602 update came out last week.

That, and not this old argument about who should pay for replacing the SD card is what everyone seems to be ignoring.

Actually Dell does replace CD's for customers, although most Dell's systems no longer come with them, but if you need them they will send them out to you, so your argument there is wrong (I know I work for Dell).

The problem with the SD cards has existed before the .602 update came out, my original VZW-supplied SD card failed 2 days before the update came out, so that also is wrong.

Bottom line is that if SD cards came with the phone, then VZW should be replacing them....they replace the phone, yet not the card THEY sold with the phone? Seems dumb.

I have to wonder though, considering the PNY SD card I bought and put in the phone as a replacement is showing possible signs of heading towards corruption that the phone itself is somehow corrupting SD cards. I've seen posts about it elsewhere online so there are strong possibilities it is

I think I am starting to understand VZW's reasoning for having the DROID 3 not come with a sd card included with the device.

However, I remember my Gateway 2000 that came in the black and white cow boxes in late 90-something included many CD's that were an advertised enticement to show off the MMX of the Pentium processor.

Most didn't work. GW said it was 3rd party and not their problem. Maybe, that's why Dell is still on top. Man, was that an antique and man did this thread go off on a tangent.

But, you can argue all you want about whether you should get a new SD card comp'd.

Probably ain't going to happen.

I started this thread got my 4th DX today my sd was ok bad phone.Check your sd card on your laptop if your can read your files on your pc you have a bad phone..Phone #3worked good till the Fix Update ran good 2 daya and phone went crazy kept saying no sd card and might be corupt and I need to format sd but the phone wouldn't let me,It wouldn' let you mount or unmount sd. bad phone #4 seems to be working ok. wish me luck.If this one messes up I am going to htc phone.

Most computer makers did used to send all those CDs out that ultimately ended up in the trash, but now with advancements in the OS and systems, you can put an image on your systme so that a customer can create their own disks, although most people don't realize that or just don't wanna do it. Anyway, you can still get them

I know I won't get the SD card comp'd because VZW has gone seriously downhill in customer service. For them to replace it free of charge would be the right thing to do, but they are going the way of the govt and other companies, and want to do what benefits THEM, not what benefits the taxpayer or customer - in otherwords NO COMMON SENSE. They don't want to take care of their customers other than saying 'the problem is not with our network' or 'just do a factory reset and your phone will work just fine'. VZW used to take care of their customers, but after having left to goto AT&T for an iPhone in 09 and then coming back to get a Droid X, their service apparently committed suicide and flushed itself down the toilet. Pretty sad that unfortunately there are very few companies out there that want truly want to continue good or great customer service anymore

I'd like to chime in with Verizon's official policy on SD cards. You may agree/disagree, but this is our policy on it. I've posted this in another thread. It's pretty much copy/pasted, but the info is relevant to your situation(s).

SanDisk Cards

SanDisk warrants Memory Cards and Readers to be free of defective parts and workmanship.

- This warranty is provided to the original end user and is not transferable.
- Proof of purchase may be required.
- The warranty period is 5 years
- The warranty is void if SanDisk determines the memory card is damaged because of improper installation, misuse, and/or unauthorized repair

To contact SanDisk directly:

Call 866-SANDISK ( 866-726-3475) between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM PT, M - F, or
Send an email to support@sandisk.com.

If your Motorola Droid X does not have a SanDisk card:

Call the Motorola Android support line: 800-734-5870

Phone must still be under manufacturer's warranty with no liquid or physical damage.
Memory card must be the original card that was included with the device.

In a nutshell, it's a pretty straightforward process as long as you know where you're calling. Is it SanDisk? Call SanDisk. Is it anything other than SanDisk? Call Motorola.

That's fine and dandy but VZW doesn't stick to it......there are plenty of posts on this very forum where other customers have gone into the store or called 800# support with a corrupt SD card from a Droid X and were given a FREE replacement SD card no questions asked (heck one guy was even upgraded to a 32GB card. That's my argument, along with the attitude of your support people who want to do nothing more than spout policy and tell you in no uncertain terms that you are {word filter avoidance}

Yeah I don't agree with your policy, because your policy basically says "we gave you a card, but your {word filter avoidance}
if it goes bad" even though it came with the phone. Whomever came up with this policy must not realize that anything that comes with something should be covered (if you can replace the phone, then you can very easily replace the cheap SD card the phone came with) - you don't see Nissan, Toyota or other car makers deny a customer service if their car was purchaed off of their sales lot with an aftermarket part (yes they WILL support you). Ford has the Microsoft Sync system in their car, yet they don't tell you to goto Microsoft if you have a problem with it - they fix it IN HOUSE. An SD card costs VZW probably no more than a few $$ at the very most, so providing a replacement to those customers who have one that goes bad would not hurt your bottom line one bit.

Yeah you are the messenger I understand, but I would hope (highly doubtful though) that your higher ups would be aware of what gets said in this forum by plenty of upset customers who have purchased a product from VZW and pay out the wazzoo each month for what amounts to crappy service. Maybe, JUST MAYBE an executive will see this and they will be the ones to private message me about it, but I find that to be very highly doubtful.

If you are goin to have a policy, don't push it into some customers faces (and laugh like the **bleep** in the corporate store did to me) but allow other customers to bypass the policy and give them replacements. That's plain unfair - to quote an Ally bank commercial...even a kid knows its wrong.

Ok, apologies to others for getting on my soap box, but I'm tired of VZW not doing anything to satisfy those of us who experience continued problems with the Droid X we love so much. I want a phone that works, not one that I have to reset and do a battery pull on every other day, or have a technician continously say 'just do a factory reset and that will fix the problem'

keiffers, for what it's worth, I went through two replacement phones in December when Froyo caused a conflict with my router.

While speaking to VZW CSRs on numerous occasions and out of ideas on both ends, I requested a replacement SD card for troubleshooting.

I was told I would have to purchase a new one. NO 800 SanDisk phone number. NO flippant speech about company policy.

That is why I said you shouldn't expect a replacement.

Now, we all know the "company policy".

I know one year into ownership of this phone, it's the first I ever heard of it. But it explains why I wasn't given one.

Why some people have received replacements is the sort of thing that just causes resentment and discontent.
