They offered to send me a refurbished phone after I did a factory reset and that didn't work. If this refurb phone doesn't work, I'm going to get another one, possibly an Iphone. Andriod is ticking me off.
what issue are you having
my fascinate works fine

What were some of the reasons you chose an Android phone in the first place? Were there features that it had? What issues are you having that is making you so upset?
I'm really hoping that verizon will offer me a different model phone.
My Fascinate has had nothing but problems. My friends that also have the Fascinate have nothing but problems, too.
The 2.3 update made the default texting app A NIGHTMARE. It always hits the back button by itself when I'm right in the middle of typing.
The basic functions of this phone aren't working for me, and it was the same story with the first fascinate I had.
I'm just fed up with this phone.
OP, if you could please keep us updated on whether or not Verizon offers you a different kind of phone.
I understand completely. I'm not sure I want there factory refurbished one either. They have no guarantee that one will not have the same issues. I actually got my phone through best buy, talking to one of the sales associates, he said I was eligible for an upgrade. That will probably be the route I end up going. he even said the Fascinates were glitchy from the start. Wish I knew that when I bought it.
This is semi-unrelated, but i also have a fascinate. It today, decided to reset itself .. When I finally got the thing working, the time says "7:03 pm. Friday, December 31st, 2004"..... What on earth happened? I'm new to all of this forum stuff and I cant figure out how to post a question.,
Kiirah, that is strange about your reset. Can you explain to me the steps you took to do the reset? Why did you reset your phone in the first place? Were you having device issues? If so what kind of issues were you having? Since you were having issues with time and date displaying incorrectly did you set it correctly? Are you still having issues with the display or anything else?
If so I would suggest doing another master reset. Here are the steps to do so:
From the main screen, touch menu tab
Touch Settings
Touch Privacy
Touch Factory Data reset
Touch Reset Phone
Touch Erase Everything
I am certain that a master reset will resolve your issues. Thanks.

A master reset won't fix anything. My wife has had the Fascinate for a year. We've taken three OTA updates since she's had it, and I've done a master reset every time at the advice of VZW. This phone has had the same issues since day one. Each software update has just created more. The original issues that have never gone away include:
1. Terrible battery life.
2. Phone gets hot (I mean very very hot)
3. Phone freezes at least once a day and a battery pull is the only way to correct it. Most days it is numerous times.
4. Phone will randomly reboot itself, and only when you are trying to use it. It doesn't matter what you are doing, using an app, making a call, reading a text. There's no rhyme or reason to it.
5. Laggy. All the time, even when it was fresh out of the box. A master reset when it was a week old took care of that, but once it came back it won't go away.
6. Phone freezes randomly during incoming calls. Won't let you answer, and it just keeps ringing til the battery finally dies or you pull the battery.
Not to mention the problems that came with the updates. GPS not working, Google Maps broken, and the alarm clock issue that has never been resolved. I'm glad this a personal phone and not a business phone. I couldn't imagine trying to run a business dependent on the Fascinate.
I've talked with other Fascinate owners. I've researched the Fascinate problems. Do a Google search for "Samsung Fascinate Problems". I've talked with VZW on numerous occasions and been offered a replacement Fascinate. I refused the replacement, because what's the point? This particular model is obviously junk. Why bother with setting up another Fascinate only to have the same problems? They should just offer a different model and be done with it.
I got a Droid X for myself at the same time she got the Fascinate. Should have just gotten two X's.
Why would verizon offer you a different model phone?? I'm so confused by that statement..
Why not offer a different Samsung model? The Samsung Fascinate is crap. They are currently giving away the Samsung Illusion for FREE with a new 2 year activation. Joe Schmoe can walk in off the street and get that phone for nothing, yet someone like myself who has been with VZW for 15 years (when it was GTE Wireless) can only get offered a refurbished Fascinate. There is something wrong with this picture.
I also have had problems with my new phone, only had it close to a month.... I cannot get GPS to lock on at all... well split second every half hour or so... I usually use Google maps, but decided after doing a total reset on my phone not to install it, try seeing if vz navigator would work... it didn't. so i reinstalled google maps hoping that my delimna would solve itself but again, same as before very bad GPS, and in VZ Navigator... it would not even load the GPS to find a location... all my settings for GPS have been checked, re-checked, and checked again.
I really like the phone... but without the GPS working it really is a hassle.
I did a factory reset on my wife's Fascinate two days ago just for the heck of it. It acted great all day yesterday, but today it's right back to the same old piece of junk. It actually is freezing up to the point of having to pull the battery a little more frequently now. The reset also added a new problem. Prior to yesterday she didn't have the trickle charge problem, but now she does. Plug the phone in at night, turn on Pandora, next morning the phone shows a 100% charge(if it made it through the night without locking up), but when she takes it off the charger it drops to 5-10% charge. Trickle charging is now broken. So what will VZW do? They sure don't mind accepting my payment every month. I went to the local store to see what my options are. Here's what I was told.
Option 1 : Live with it until it's eligible for upgrade in December.
Option 2 : Buy a new phone at full retail price.
Option 3 : Add a new line for $9.99 a month and get a phone. Put old number to new line and dummy new line out.
So that's $150-200 for a phone, plus $10 a month for a line I'm not using and don't need. I don't think so.
How about a "We know that the Fascinate is a problematic device. We'd be glad to swap it for another phone."
On the bright side, the built in alarm clock function works properly now. She can set an alarm for the next day without the phone setting it for a week away. Of course, the phone only works as an alarm provided it doesn't freeze and lock up during the night.
For all you guys having issues and can't get any real satisfaction I suggest taking another route on your device. Take a look at XDA developers site. With some tweaking (all I can say on this site) the Fascinate can be made to run well. I'm currently running ICS 4.0 and after comparing the performance to the Nexus I won't be upgrading anytime soon. With the exception of LTE (which crashes about every other month it seems) my device performs just as well and no bloatware.
Good luck.
I sent you a Follow request. I'd like to DM you.

call samsung and tell me what they offer you
Been down that road my friend. They said take it up with Verizon.
Hypothetically speaking of course, which version/rom of ICS would one want to look at on xda ??
I am on my third fascinate in less than 7 months. This one worked fine for about two days, but as soon as I added the apps I like to use - like google maps, evernote and facebook it started acting wonky again. Freezes, won't allow me to answer calls, freezes up if I want to text. Navigation won't work. Lost all of my phone contacts - they are just gone. Won't sync contacts with facebook friends. I don't have a ton of apps, or music because I can't get the flippin' thing to work long enough to mess with setting it up like I want it.
I am FED UP with this phone and the fact that I keep paying my $200 phone bill for a "smartphone" that won't be smart. My hubby has the same phone and he has had problems, too. I was up to pulling the batter as many as 4 times an hour before this last one. Now I am pulling the battery at least one to two times a day.
When I told them I didn't want another Fascinate - I was told too bad, so sad. So, I get to pay for a service that I can't use because it freezes if I try to do any "smart" things *and* I can't do normal phone stuff like make phone calls or text message. I'm ticked.
ETA: I've done resets, updates, resets, updates ad nauseum, too - so it isn't that I haven't done what is necessary.
Are your apps being backed up as well? Corrupted apps can cause it to lock up as well. GEt one more replacement, and use it without logging into your gmail. Get the new versions of the apps if available. I know it's a hassle, but an android phone is more like a computer and it does require maintenance as does a regular computer.
But the phone acting up right when you add apps sounds like corrupted apps, or those apps may not get along with gingerbread all together.>Post edited to comply with VZW TOS.<

The Fascinate was updated a while ago, up to Firmware Version 2.3.5 . I cannot remember the actual date...
It updated mid DEC 2011 to EH03 2.3.5
I wouldn't accept a refurb so I ended up paying full retail for a new phone and got the heck away from Fascinate
That $ucks you had to buy a new phone, but i understand your frustrations. For me, I refuse to pay for a new phone for an issue that was clearly caused by a poor firmware update. In no way should the user be responsible for eating that cost, this is 100% Verizon's problem and they should be doing something to resolve this.
My phone is on Firmware version 2.1-update1. I took it to a Verizon service center and was told all updates were complete. When I check for new updates, the phone says "No New Software Update Available". Any suggestions/thoughts?
apparently you have no idea how a manufacture warranty works at all.
got the same option from customer service,
I am leaving verizon once my contract ends . .
that's cute that you are leaving..but umm..did you think about it? Where are you going to go??
