I cannot send out text messages

I cannot send out text messages - I can receive them - cannot send them to a contact.

This contact has a multiple contacts ranging from gmail to facebook.  I deleted all the contacts and now the contact can receive my text messages.

 

I noticed a small x in a circle to the right of the contact's name. A red x in a circle would appear and say my text messages not sent. I would resend - nothing changed. 

 

Does anyone know why this happens and how I can fix the contact so I can text without getting these messages.

 

The contact is not blocking me by the way - it is my spouse LOL

What app are you using for texting? Handcent will not send to contacts that are also facebook contacts, because there is a +1 in front of there phone number and you can't delete it. I have to use the stock app to text anybody who is also a facebook friend.
