Please post all of your thoughts and opinions about the new gingerbread update. Is it working for you?
Downloaded the update, installed the update, phone rebooted, unpacked the update, phone rebooted and stuck at the Samsung splash screen.
Tried to reboot the phone, but the power button was unresponsive.
Pulled the battery and powered back on and it's stuck at the Samsung splash screen again.
Anyone else experience this?
Thanks,
Tim
Your going to have to do a factory reset. That should fix it. Once you do a factory reset the update should already be there once your phone boots up.
How does the GPS work? Lock faster? I know with the Charge update the GPS lock is much faster from what I hear, I haven't gotten the OTA update yet for the Charge, but I am looking forward to it and I hope the Fascinate is snappier and more stable now that it has GB
Gps locks Instantly
I have been running this for two weeks and love it
Right on that's nice to hear, hopefully the Charge's GPS works the same now with the new EP4D OTA Software.

I have the same problem. I tried to run a reset with the volume buttons held down, and now i'm in a loop of the phone trying to restore itself. Completely stuck now.\
The install went fine, but I also let the phone do all it needed to do while I did other things. It does take a while at some screens to complete, but I just left it. It has lost a bunch of my settings in my applications, so I am having to redo them, no biggie. Signal strength seems better, and I am currently checking battery life and GPS now as we speak. The GPS did not lock when I used just Standalone GPS services, but seems to lock quicker if I add Google Location Services. It is not locking on my exact location, but it is close. I am also in my house doing this test, so it may be blocking it a little.
Overall so far, some minor inconveniences, but if it helps with battery life, losing texts and phone calls, and better signal strength, it will be well worth the effort.
i had the same issue... i really hope verizon makes good and fixes my phone for me... atm i out of a phone because the update messed my phone up and the lady at the verizon store said there was nothing they could do... I just want them to correct their mistake not just brush me under the rug and say nothings wrong. I dont feel like i should have to buy a completely new phone because of verizons mistake. ive tried taking out the battery and even hard reseting it but nothing works. as you can see im very frustrated with how thing are going as of right now. if any of you verizon employees can help me in anyway it would be much aprreciated.

You went right to a Verizon store and someone there told you that there was nothing they could do? How long have you had the phone? I would take that persons name, and ask to speak to the manager. And if that didn't work, I would ask to speak to that persons boss, and so on up the chain until I got somewhere.
I feel like fascinate is as snappy as android 2.1 os with more memory.
Good sammy free more memory ram if u notice it say 379mb over 337 on froyo
The update seemed to go fine. Then I tried to use Google Maps/Navigation. It will start the app and GPS locks quickly. But then so does the application! The screen freezes for about 30 seconds and then I get forced close. I tried flushing the application's cache and even uninstall/reinstall but nothing helped.
So closed all applications and turned off my phone. When I came back a half hour later the battery was completely drained! It had been full before.
I'm so glad they took their time working all the bugs out of gingerbread before they released it!
Noticed the 2.3.5 EHO3 GBread updated was available last night. Used the regualar settings...about phone...system updates..menu to start download. Took 8-9 minutes to download. During that time the phone looks normal but you see the little data exchange arrows blinking (if youy eyes are good).
After download, phone reboots and asks if you want to install. During this time you see the little Android man working symbol. Took 4-5 min. to install and then phone restarted. Everything works fine so far. Pages seem a little faster. All my old pages and functions seem to work fine. Have only used it for an hour or so. Fox News and NY Giants web pages no longer expand with two finger sweep but you can set font to various sizes so it is readable.
Will let you all know if there are any problems after a few days.
After about 8+ months of use I have had no problems with the phone and think it is great! Wife has same one and likes it too.

I had the same issue with Navigation after my update. I made a couple attempts to open it, and it ended up locking up the phone completely. After I pulled the battery and restarted the phone everything has been fine. The GPS so far has locked in much quicker.
I received my OTA update to Gingerbread also.
Initial thoughts it seems better.
I still need to confirm battery life, missed text messages, missed phone calls, music player auto closing after 1 hour, and at least the phantom button presses have been fixed.
I have 1 issue so far with Bluetooth sending files to my laptop. I no longer see a way to remove a Bluetooth device from the phone. I can remove it from the laptop. I repair the 2 devices, but can never share pictures over the Bluetooth connection anymore.
My plan is to do a factory reset This weekend then post a new topic if it is still an issue.
First day's use showed improved battery life. We will see how today goes.
I have not tried GPS and Google maps yet so it looks like I will need to test that before I do the factory reset also. This way I can try again after the factory reset.

I turned the phone off and pulled the battery. After powering the phone back on, Google Maps Navigation worked. However, I never got a GPS lock during my 15-minute drive to work this morning. Clear, sunny day so I am not sure what is going on with that, especially since others are reporting speedier GPS locking after GB update. The phone does seem to lag less now.
I pulled the battery again and will see if I can get a GPS lock later today.

My GPS will not lock at all now. I've done several battery pulls, etc., but it won't lock.

Which GPS services are you using? It locks much faster if you use Google Location Services along with Standalone.
After updating the only problem I see as of now is I get a notification that the database storage is getting low
I think i am getting an extra 3 hours of battery life since the update. No problems with gps navagation yet , but havn't used it that much, but everthing else is satisfying.
Does this update put a newer touchwiz on it? My wife's stratosphere has the newer touchwiz without the iphone style icons. I like that a lot better since it makes it easier to find apps since they don't all look square.
Edit: Oops, wrong thread.
After update phone seems to be bricked. Locked up on "Samsung" boot screen for a few hours. Finally pulled the battery now it boots to the bootloader. However I am unable to move between the options to even try to get it back to factory.. Anyone with this issue had any luck?
I have had nothing but problems since I updated the software. My phone is constantly freezing, Google navigation doesn't even open. I called Verizon telling them about the software issues..They have no answers. How many times a day should I be taking my battery out just so I can send a text of make a call? So disappointed.
My issue with the 2.3.5 update was pretty big and made my phone nearly un-usable: After the installation was completed, my phone would so a "soft" reboot every 60 seconds or so. The download was fine, the install was fine, I saw all of the usual messages, but after it was done, the screen would go blank and I'd hear both the Samsung and Verizon startup tunes. It would take at least 20 seconds to be usable again, then I had about 40 seconds to try to figure out the problem before it would reboot again.
Needless to say, this was extremely annoying and frustrating, but I eventually figured out that it's something that was stored on my MicroSD card. Once I removed the card, the phone ran a heckova-lot faster for just about everything. I was getting very frustrated with my phone before the update since it would freeze up for 10 seconds or so fairly frequently, take several attempts to unlock it using a simple unlock pattern, and have lots of "lag" in responding to taps and swipes.
I'm thinking now that it was all due to something on my card. I started by copying all content to my PC, formatting the card on the phone, then copying everything back, but as soon as I did, the problems all came back again, especially the rebooting. I'm now in the process of copying only select items back to the card, one-at-a-time, to narrow down the problem. My card wasn't full by any means, but it had a bunch of stuff on it, so this process is making me clear out the clutter. It's nice that the phone came with a 16GB MicroSD card, but it seems that the phone will slow to a crawl if I fill it even half full.
So for anybody having trouble after the update, try pulling your memory card and see if your phone's problems disappear too.
OdeonD,You're having exactly the same problem I am. So please do report back ASAP when you figure out what's causing it, and I'll do the same. The trouble is, I've been bad about installing *far* too many apps. So I figure there is some app that's installed on the SD card that's doing things behind the scenes that cause the reboot. But with literally over 500 apps on my phone, and no obvious way of disabling them in bulk, I'm at a bit of a loss.Perhaps we've got the same app? Do you have a lot?Or something else?I did also notice that once I removed a lot of the media on my SD card, I seemed to have a bit *more* time between reboots. So it's probably some media player, or something else that likes to scan through the SD card on startup, and explodes when it hits something.Any further progress on your side?

Anyone getting better or worst batterlife since the update?
I tried pulling my SD card.....the phone lasted usuable for a little bit longer then with the card.....but eventually it goes into a "black screen state" that can only be recovered from.....by removing the battery. Wow Verizon....wow Samsung! Ironically I just read an article from pcmag that had Samsung at the bottom of the food chain for customer satisfaction....hardware, software and customer support....
I am getting horrible battery life after gingerbread update, my full battery will only last 2.5 hours and that is not even doing anything with the phone, if i make phone calls or text or check FB it will last 1.5 hours. It's ridiculous and i am very upset about it!!!
After the Gingerbread update my Fascinate has been finally running like it was meant to run. No freezing up, no extraneous screenshots, NOTHING! I now have a phone I am happy to say I own.
Oh, and the battery life is fantastic!!!
Same as your two posts love the phone and it is running Fantastic
But I always do a clean install Back every thing up factory reset than Install apps and than restore my texts and call log
Little more work but worth it to have the phone run so nice
