samsung galaxy s fascinate to iphone 4?

i have a samsung galaxy s right now  (1 year left on contract) and am complete dissatisfied with it. if i buy a iphone 4 off craigslist will i be able to switch phones just like that? how does the process work?

 

or should i just wait for iphone 5... hahaha

First, you need to make sure the new phone has a clean ESN (kinda like a car's VIN).  Not sure how to do this, but I would imagine you could get the ESN from the seller and call Verizon to make sure the phone hasn't been stolen, reported lost, etc.  Also, make sure it's the CDMA version (Verizon compatible).  If all this checks out, you can go online here: https://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/activation/activatephone.jsp or call customer service and they should be able to do it without an issue.  Because they are both smartphones, nothing should change plan-wise.
