Friend gave me an old phone, activated it on my account but it kept her old number.

Hello, I have a question. I switched my phone from an LG Touch to an LG Voyager that my friend had given me. When I switched it, it still kept her number so now neither of the phones work and it says my number is invalid. I can't call or text. Anyone know what I can do?

It sounds as if you did not follow the instructions to have the phone activated on YOUR line. I assume you dialed *228 on the "new" phone to activate it. During the activation, did you key in "her" number, or "yours"? Does your friend still have service with Verizon? If so, you may have accidentally deactivated her phone in the process. Your best plan may be to bring it into a Verizon store to have it activated on your line.

In addition to what rcschnoor posted, here's one more thing to try. For awhile, our experience with *228 was that the phone being deactivated needed to be turned off prior to initiating the *228 process; in other words, both phones could not be on at the same time.

I can definitely assist you with activating the Voyager. Is the Voyager still active on your friend’s account? If it is, please have your friend remove the device off their line first.

How was the activation of your Voyager processed? You can do this by logging in to My Verizon, dialing *228 option 1 from the Voyager, or by calling in to Customer Care. If this hasn't been done, you can select one of the methods previous mentioned to activate the Voyager.
