Phone answering frustration!

This is a crazy issue, but it's happened to my husband, to me, and to my daughter who has her own Droid Charge phone and it's driving all of us batty and I don't know what to do.

Occasionally (doesn't happen all the time), we try to answer the phone by pressing the "Answer" button, but it won't work!! It simply doesn't recognize the finger press. Tried pushing the Don't Answer and also tried pushing the "reject with message" but NOTHING WORKS!!!

When it happened to my husband, I thought, "oh sure, he's just not doing it right". Then it happened to ME and I said, "Hey, *I* know how to use a phone, for crying out loud!" Then I asked my daughter if she'd ever had that happen and she reported the same problem!!

What's going on? Anyone else have this trouble? Is there anything we're all doing wrong??

Wet or moist fingers at the time when you had issues?

I have noticed that is when I have more trouble.

I just wish there was a way to answer the darn phone with an external physical button sometimes instead of even having to touch the screen.

My Samsung Charge would NOT answer an incoming call when I used the swipe/wipe phone lock. After I switched back to the puzzle lock it now works perfectly ever time. Now I like the puzzle lock better.

I get this issue from time to time as well. I'll have an incoming call, pull the phone from my pocket, and the swipe to answer does not respond. I have found the if I press the power button to turn off the screen then press it again to turn it back on then the swipe to answer responds. Note the phone is ringing the whole time you're messing with it. Pretty disappointing...

I understand your discontent; I would be too if my phone's screen did not respond as expected. Are you using screen protectors?

My Research shows that the Samsung DROID Charge SCH-I510 uses capacitive multi-touch technology. The capacitive touch screen requires your skin to touch the screen. If you are using a screen protector your screen may not work as designed.

question: Then why do the Verizon employees push them? Mine told me that if I "didn't use them" and had to return the phone...or even waited to upgrade....Verizon could claim physical damage and charge me!

That's a great question! I tried using the crap screen protector from the VZ store. I ended up switching to a Zagg shield. It works much better and I have had no issues with lack of touch sensitivity. Also no little air and dust bubbles like the VZ protector.

I see a lot of frustration here BUT did any of you try switching to the puzzle lock to see if that works. Or on the other hand, try swiping you finger across the screen VERY slowly. Come on folks, try to ID and/or fix the problem yourself.

Anyway...

I bought the Verizon screen protectors, but I have not used them. And apparently, I won't BE using them.

All the other 'touch' functions work, so I don't think it's my manner of touching the 'answer' button.

Will Verizon/Samsung ever issue an update to the software? When my daughter called & talked to the Samsung people, they said (seemingly, as usual) that they'd "never heard of that problem". I'm guessing they don't monitor these forums. Does Verizon escalate the complaints to anyone?

If the screen unlocks, one would assume that we're swiping slowly enough. I don't know how to "fix it myself" when I don't know what the problem is.

The only solution that was offered was to switch to the Puzzle lock, and yes, I did do that. I haven't had any incoming calls since then that have come in while the phone was turned on (all so far have gone to voice mail so that I can avoid draining the battery).

All this being said, I *still* have to say that I *LOVE* this phone! It has been more fun for me than any new computer I've gotten in many years. I never had a smartphone before -- my last cell phone was new 9 years ago, so you can imagine how much fun it has been.

FINALLY my Samsung Charge now works perfectly when answering incoming calls. Try this, if may fix yours if it's not doing what it should!.

I removed the battery, the Micro SD card, and the SIM card for 60+ seconds and then put them back in. NOTE: before you start this process go to Settings>SD card & phone storage and click on Unmount SD card. Then turn off your phone by holding the upper right side button for 30 seconds. Remove the battery first and then the SD card and SIM card. Be gentle with the SIM card and keep track of which direction goes in first and which side is up.

Wait 60+ seconds, insert the SD card and the SIM card and finally the battery. Turn on the phone and go to Settings>SD card & phone storage and click on ReMount the SD card.

Last, go to Settings>Display Settings and click on Unlock screen and choose Glass Unlock. This is the slider method. You can also click on Puzzle Unlock if you prefer that method.

This is what made it so I could answer incoming calls using the SWIPE (slider) method. Previously the screen was frozen for an incoming call when set to the slider method Only the Puzzle Lock would wok.

Please let me know if this fixes yours.

I am having the same problem, but I noticed that the screen is NOT showing the same options that are in the Tutorial. I couldn't answer the phone when our daughter called and had to do a call back. When I was done, I had my husband call my phone and got a totally different screen that I could answer. My daughter called again today and I got that other screen again and couldn't answer it again.

Try switching to the "puzzle lock" option to swipe for unlocking your phone (suggested by JerryF). When you have an incoming call, you drag the GREEN puzzle piece to the Unlock Outline.

Ever since I switched to the Puzzle Lock, I've not had problems answering incoming calls.
