Droid Random Reboot After OS Update

I have a Droid 2. The phone ran an OS update. Android version 2.3.3. System version 4.5.601.A995.Verizon.en.US. Build number 4.51_57_DR2-31

Randomly, when I wake up the phone from sleep and touch the screen it forces a reboot.

Also, and randomly when I power down the phone, it looks like it is off but a few seconds later it boots on again.

Has anyone has been experiencing a similar problem? This didn't happen before the OS update.

Yes, I am having the same problem where the phone turns itself back on about 5 minutes after I turn it off. Usually if I turn it off again a second time it stays off, but not always. Like you, this was not happening until the Gingerbread upgrade was pushed.

I haven't had the reboot problem (yet!).

Anybody got any ideas?

I have a Droid 2 (R2D2 model) and my husband and I were having problems with the restarts after turnoffs also. It took 2 different ways to fix them. For mine, I updated roaming capabilities (*228, option 2) and for his, I did a battery pull of 1 to 2 minutes. In each case, thankfully, the restarting has so far stopped. Maybe one of these two solutions can help you.

Unimatrix and nativeson, we have seen some reports of the Droid 2 power cycling after the Gingerbread update. Our product team is investigating this and expect to have a fix in the next maintenance release for this phone.

I hope the fix comes soon...apparently my battery pull\roaming update is only a temporary fix. Both phones restarted themselves again today. I'm trying another battery pull, as I really don't want to go back to factory reset. Hurry with a solution Verizon!

Has anyone tried a cache clear or factory reset to see if this solves any of the issues? I don't usually turn my phone off, but I have experienced this problem once. Since I did a factory reset I haven't shut my phone off.

Also the battery pulls in excess of 5 minutes seem to be giving some people a little success.

I am having this same problem with my Droid R2D2. When people say a battery pull, do they mean every time you power off the phone, or just a one-time deal?

Also, is anyone else unhappy with the most recent Android update? It's one thing to update the functionality of the software, but it's another to completely change the interface (colors, layout, etc.) without any input or choice from the consumer.

How long will it take for the next maintenance to be released?!?!

Even restoring the Droid to factory settings, it still constantly reboots without warning and without installing any additional thrid-party software. I hate to imagine if there was an serious emergency and the phone happens to reboot when I need it most.

If the engineers are still having problems resolving this issue, I am wondering if it would be helpful to send them the Droid's system logs?

I am having issues with random reboots. It happens several times a day, twice so far in 4 hours this morning. If I am some place I would normally put the phone on silent, I have to remove the battery because the reboots are not silent. My screen will also freeze at times and a battery removal is the only cure. Sometimes during a reboot, it will hang on R2D2 and again, a battery removal is the only recourse. I was going to attempt a factory reset but since I see that hasn't worked for some, I may not bother. It is a time-consuming process.
