Can videos be played that came from computer?

I have tried to play a video that I took from my computer and placed on the SD card of my Charge. I cannot get it to be seen by the phone to play it. I have tried different locations to see if that would work, but no go.

Doe anyone know if this can be done? And if so, how? I do not want to have to pay for a service each month to watch a video. I would like to load them onto my computer and then place them on my phone to watch.

Just to be clear, I was suggesting to vimitt the he may want to try Moboplayer because it says that it accommodates many video formats. It does not convert one format to another.

Your suggestion is also a good one, but Roxio Creator is paid software and Moboplayer is free. If vimitt's videos don't play on the native video player because they are not a format that the player accommodates, perhaps Moboplayer would play them. That was my point.

Just a guess, but perhaps the video is not in a format that is supported by the native video player on the Charge (I assume that's what you tried to use to play the video). You may want to try another player downloaded from the Market. A quick review of some websites indicates that Moboplayer is well-regarded. I don't have it loaded on my phone, so I can't vouch for it personally.

It worked for me. I did drag and drop a couple of videos from my PC to the /mnt/sdcard/DCIM/Camera folder and they worked okay.

One had a format (extent) of .MP4 and the other .WMV but I do not know all the formats that the phone will accept. There may be others and I would guess that .MP3 will work too. I did try the Apple format .MOV and it did NOT work.

WCMack, Yes I did try the native video player on the Charge. I am not sure of the format of the movie is, I am not very tech savvy. I will look at the format when I get home and see what it is. I will also look into another player like the one you suggested to see if that will work for the movie. Thank you for the research you did and the recommendation. I will let you know.

JerryF, As I told WCMack, I am not very tech savvy and am not sure of the format. I did not try it in the DCIM/Camera folder so I will try that before downloading an app like WCMack suggested. If the format of the movie is not either of the two you mentioned I may have to download an app. I have heard that the MOV files from Apple don't work for videos or music. I will let you know which way I had to go with it. Thanks for your time.

I would be surprised if there is an Android phone APP to change a Video format from, let's say, .MOV (Apple) to .WMV (Windows), .MP3 or .MP4. That is a very sophisticated and usually large program to change video formats.

I change the formats in my Laptop using ROXIO Creator 2010 before putting them in the Charge.

Roxio asks me what type of phone I have so the video is sized correctly as well as in a usable format.

For practice I used a 45 minute TV show ("Killer Waves") converted it and put it in the phone. It shows really nice. Roxio took the original version which was 2,113,664,000 Bytes down to 285,583,000 Bytes and put it in .MP4 format.
