Skype Video Calling not supported on Droid Bionic (problem: Tegra 2 chipset)

Dear Verizon Wireless,

 

I just got my Moto Droid Bionic, I tried using the Skype Video Call.  I can see the other Skype caller, but they can not see me.  I tried calling a skype laptop user and skype HTC 3D mobile, I got the same thing, they can not see me but I can see them because their front facing camera works but not on the Moto Droid Bionic.  I can hear the other skype user and see that user, they can hear me but not see me.

Verizon Wireless pointed me to Motorola, Motorola pointed me to Skype, so I contacted Skype.  I just got an email from Skype saying that the Tegra 2 chipset installed in the Droid Bionic and I believe also in the Moto Atrix, does not support video calling.   We waited for the Motorola Droid Bionic for several months and kind of disappointed that skype video calling is not available yet.

Between Motorola, Verizon Wireless and Skype, I hope you're doing a fix to make Skype Video Calling available.

I just downloaded this version from XDA Developers and it worked just fine on my Bionic!! I skyped all day long, front and back camera worked fine.

You can get it there. Version 46

1) Uninstall any version of skype you have

2) Put this Skype .apk on your phone and run it and install (download the .apk locally on your phone, or download it on your computer and transfer it to your phone. That is what I did.) Browse to where you have the .apk file using the file browser app on your phone and double tap the file to install.

3) Launch the new skype app and go into menu and advanced settings and check the "Use valid Preview Surface", and of course enable video, and any others you want. I have: Force enable video, force enable both cameras, use valid preview, keep screen alive, enable portrait, auto start on boot.

Works great for me, I can switch front and back camera while in video chat, etc. I'm going to try to get it to work on my wife's phone (Droid charge). Her "real skype" version only works with rear camera. At least this may work til Skype gets there version working.
