My wife's Droid 2 Global is having the same issues. Verizon originally suspended the release because the update was full of bugs and they weren't suppose to send it out unless they were fixed. It looks like they still have some issues to work out and we will have to deal with the problems until they send out another update with a fix (I know, it's easy for me to say since I'm not the one using the phone). Droid 2 Global customers will have to keep voicing their issues until Verizon listens and gets us the fix.
My phone is doing this too, it makes it impossible to type in the dark! The little green notification light also keeps blinking even though there are no notifications! I called Verizon about the notification light and they told me I would have to factory reset the phone, which seems to be their answer for any problem I call in with. I called in about a month ago because my phone wasn't working at all... I couldn't make or receive any calls, texts, emails, nothing. They told me my phone booted itself off of the network and I would have to reset. I had to leave for work at that time so I said I would call back later to reset. About 30 minutes later my phone had apparently booted itself back on because it was working fine. Makes me hesitant to factory reset for anything.
Hello UtakuJon,
I know it's important to be able to use your phone even in dimly lit areas.
I have checked my references and would like to offer you some troubleshooting steps for you. You see, there is a setting on the phone called "Brightness" that can be changed. Please follow the steps below.
Menu
Settings
Display
Brightness
Un-check "Auto Brightness"
When un-checking this setting, the brightness of the device will not change when in different environments. This may resolve the issue for you.
Please try this and post back with your results.
Thanks very much!

"I'm having the same problem with the backlight. I found that if you position your hands in a way around the phone that the light from the screen reflects onto the sensor and activates the backlight. I hope Verizon fixes it soon!"
Other way around. While the screen is lit, cover the sensor in the upper right corner of the screen with your finger for a few seconds blocking all light and the softkeys as well as extended keyboard will light up.
Finally got my D2G to mimic your problem. I fooled with it until the lights did not come on while I was in the dark and then no amount of covering the sensor made them come on. Seems the sensor needs a perceptible change in light (big surprise :smileyhappy: to know something needs attention. If the change of light is "light" instead of "darkness" and the result is the available light is below threshold then the lights will turn on. So, there are conditions where additional light will turn on the softkeys and keyboard back light. Clear as mud? I thought so. :-)
@jeffmeister,
I understand how difficult it may be to used the phone in the dark and not having the backlight working properly. Have you tried changing the backlight settings as we suggested earlier in the thread? If not, I have provided them below:

Un-checking auto-brightness has to do with the screen and not the physical keyboard light. It is a (delete content to comply with ) typing with an intermittent keyboard light.
