Is there any word on the fix for Gingerbread (the update that was forced onto us in late May)? My phone has been a piece of garbage since 5/27/11, and I am getting sick of the rhetoric. Please help!
I see you read/replied to the answer in the other post.
Sorry, what?
I thought I saw that you posted in another thread about the "fix" update coming .. Maybe I was wrong.. Anyway, your frustration is shared by many - and welcome to the forum.
Verizon commented on a Fix Update to GB coming "soon"
http://community.vzw.com/t5/DROID-X-by-Motorola/Droid-X-turns-itself-quot-ON-quot-after-Gingerbread-update/td-p/552722/page/8
Yes I did, sorry. Just trying to raise some awareness on the issues that have been brought up on the Motorola Owner's Forums. No help or response from anyone there at all!
I don't believe the rep said a fix was coming. She just said a target date.
Thanks,
Rick

GB wasn't pushed out until the first week of June, it sounds like you were in the SOAK test group, which means you signed up for it. For the rest of us who got it in June, it wasn't forced on us.
Sorry, couldn't find a way to correct grammar in my last post!
Really? Not forced on you? You are a little nieve! As for the soak test, you are right. However, we were misled that our input would matter. ALL of the issues that are now on the table were brought up during the soak test. They did not listen, nor apparently care. Head over to the Moto owners forum for further info.

Naive, you mean?It wasn't forced on me. I had to go FIND it to get it on mine - and I waited weeks to decide if I wanted to or not - never got any reminders, pop-ups, anything. It just stayed in my updates section on my phone until I went and looked for it.
Feel better? Yeah, that's what you got out of my post. The need to correct my spelling. Good one!
You can believe what you want, but it was not a choice.
Isn't the update section your reminder? How do you know it just sat in your update section? If you truly waited for weeks, you did not do enough research, because you never would have agreed to the update had you seen all the negativity out there regarding it. At least I never would have.
The fact that VZW won't respond to this post should be an indication that they don't want to engage in this topic.

buffalo4747,
I do understand your frustrations concerning the issues you are having with your Droid X! Our product development team is aware of the issue and are working on a permanent fix, hopefully soon! They have suggested, as a workaround, to have the device software flashed. This can be done at one of our corporate stores.
Again, thank you for your patience and for choosing Verizon Wireless!
what does that mean "to have the device software flashed"?
It means they will put the original software back on it that it was shipped with when it was released (or soon after).

Are you saying that a corporate store can reflash a phone back to FroYo? Cuz that's what was on my phone when I got it.

buffalo4747,
Hi B33,
Flashing the device will not make it revert back to the previous operating system. When they flash the device, they would put the most current operating system back on the device. Also, to help resolve the current issues, there's a new software update that was released earlier this week for the Droid X. Here's a link for information on how obtain the newest software update.
janharris56 wrote:First time on. Not 100% sure what your discussing. I have issues. Most recent one started yesterday. When texting, the keyboard freezes up and then does strange things. Tried the #228 as they suggest to do monthly, but its recording says it can't be done & to try later. I don't know. I really don't want to call support because it requires so much time usually ending without resolution. Very frustrating.
Jan try this hit you menu key > settings > applications > manage applications > Select all then scroll down to Multitouch keyboard
Clear the cache / Clear Data then close with your home button shut the phone down an then repower it up an see if this helps if not .
try this as your next step. let me know what worked for ya
Wiping cache partition - cures many ills and is better to start with this than a (gulp) full Factory Reset.
Hi Janharris56,
To correct the keyboard issues you are having, I would recommend checking the Android Market for a free keyboard application. Simply use the keyword "Keyboard" and you will find many applications so you can personalize your keyboard and correct the issue.
Please post back with your results, as we want to make sure that your issue is resolved.
Thank you!
Hi there!
I agree, this is a workaround; recommended by Motorola. They are aware of this concern and have a software patch coming soon to correct the issue.
Thank you for your patience and understanding!
I sure hope it is a fix to multiple problems that the LAST fix was supposed to address, and not something just to fix one single problem. There are far too many GB problems that should have been fixed once and for all with the update from a few weeks ago
Ok like many of you I am having multiple issues since they forced down the download, which for my droid x happened on 8/22/11. Since then I have lost calls, cannot receive calls, lost wifi, lost 3G, slow 3G, says I have 4 bars but when I make a call they all disappear and if I am lucky enough to get a call through, the person on the other end cannot hear me.
My droid x was awesome until this update last week!! The only issue I had was the update in June, when I lost my multitouch keyboard. No big deal I learned to use swipe and it was fine.
I called Verizon and not much help there, they said it is out of warrany, which would be fine if it was my fault, but since the new software was forced down and I did not get a pop up asking to accept it, the liability solely rests with Verizon. After they understood where I was coming from, they had only a few minor solutions like, send me a refurbished or "like" droid x. That is not a solution and that is unacceptable as I spent 299 for my droid x new a year ago.
After seeing all of these complaints and the 3500 other complaints on the droidx, android, motorola, and droid forum, I think it is time we all take a stand! I asked them for a reasonable solution and instead get the run a round. I don't know about anyone else, but I have 5 lines for a total of over 250 a month. I don't mind paying for it when it works but to tell me my phone is out of warranty when it was working fine over the last year until the forced sofware upgrade is ridiculous.
I will wait one more day until a "manager" calls me back and if it doesn't happen then I will have no choice but to file a civil suit based on product liability and breach of contract/service and I can assure all that I will not be reasonable about what I will be asking for. Any takers?
Yes I am a little ticked off and disappointed after speaking with 3 verizon customer service reps that "are limited to what we can do". Let's see what they can do when the media get's a hold of these complaints and the attorneys start speaking.
But unfortunately they will leave me with no choice as I rely on my droid x!
OK, I just have to ask you then since you're having so "many" issues : Have you :
1. Cleared System Cache?
2. Run in SAFE MODE to see if your issues are APP-related?
3. Performed a Factory Reset and NOT automatically download/reinstall your APPS ? (this would be the silver bullet and is tedious to reconstruct your phone after...)
These are the initial things that anyone should try before throwing the baby out with the bathwater ... While I agree that there have been a lot of issues reported, many of our phones are in fact working pretty well after doing the aforementioned steps.
There is a puported update that is coming to address the current bug list ... but so far it's all speculation based on reports from Moto & Verizon. But we're all hopeful - and TRYING to be patient.
divesdeep2, Because many people want the latest and greatest software, they harp at Moto and Verizon until they get it.I've had the same experience twice. Phone worked great. Froyo update made it buggy. Phone working great again by the time GB was forced upon my phone. Bugs were back. There have been lengthy threads about why updates often result in bugs for some people's phones and what the Android folks (Google, phone manufacturers, mobile service providers) need to do to make updates less of a problem.I propose that updates become optional. Microsoft doesn't make you update to Vista. I'm still using XP.That will never happen. Phones are different than computers, I know.
Yes, I did try that with the tech support guy on the other end and the software still downloaded.
Believe me, I do not post anything until I have researched and tried all options.
I agree with you, all these latest and greatest should be an option. But it would be even better if they would test the latest and greatest with a small team to work the bugs out first and based on Motorola's forum, that didn't happen, at least on working phones. Sure it works great on a PC simulator, but in real form, not so much.
well after the latest upgrade my invalid server certificate issue went away, for 2 weeks now its back.i tryed all the suggestions but nothing worked.im sick of this problem.it was doing it for months off and on.
@divesdeep "Believe me, I do not post anything until I have researched and tried all options. Yes, I did try that with the tech support guy on the other end and the software still downloaded."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That wasn't my point - that it "downloaded" .602 GB ... My actual point was that after installing GB, those troubleshooting points have helped resolve a LOT of issues. If you DID do a Factory Reset, did you trun OFF the feature that normally automatically Reinstalls your 3rd party APPS? Reason I suggest that - as have others - is that these quirks and issues have usually been attributed to 3rd party APPS and not GB itself. So I would do the FR w/o all the Apps and just see if it's running cleanly. Then and only then start slowly adding back the 3rd party Apps that you REALLY need and test along the way .. Just a thought.
Not sure what else to offer though. Good luck.
Well I just got off the phone with tech support and customer service, they took care of me and they situation is resolved. Thank you tech support!!
Please share so others may benefit ... What was the problem?
droidsw wrote:divesdeep2, Cody makes an excellent point about apps that I know to be true from experience.(These are my opinions. Not Cody's)No. A person should not have to install updates, but they are not optional.No. A person shouldn't have to do all the resets and troubleshooting with apps after an update. But, it is what it is. And it's a very long subject that has been discussed at length, with many varying opinions.Try your phone with no 3rd party apps installed, after a reset that was completed WITHOUT restoring your old data. That is the first place to start.
add to your list 'a person should not have to dial *228 once a month to update your roaming profile' - no other carrier requires their customer do that that I am aware of....AT&T sure doesn't require it
Anyone else notice you only can see the battery charge percent in sets of 10? 10-20-30-40%...ect.??? Never 15-25-35 or a 27-39-42-58??? **bleep**? Also Ive noticed if I look at a list of searchs in the app market that the screen gets very laggy as if almost a wavy effect and I can see it chop actually a little as I watch...can see the words actually chop a little at the end. IDK...weird results with this .602. Was .596 this morning. This is a "like-new" Droid X replacement. Just activated today. Updated this morning after activating. Did a FR as suggested in MANY forums I've read. Seemed good. NO 3RD APPS at all. Downloaded a few...alright. Couple more...little laggy. Uninstalled. About the Same. Not to mention my battery this morning was fully charged as it has been sitting in a box charged for about a month almost. Drained so much I charged to 90???? somthing since I couldnt see how much really cuz it stayed on 90 for over 10 minutes on the charger??? So I played around more with widgets, photos, set my screens and apps up and there it goes again, laggy along with low reception and the battery was getting very hot all day. I was even able to somehow get a motorola photo widget to stick on top of the motorola music widget!?!?! So what do I do? Erase it all again. No widgets, photos. All while letting cool down in between. I pick it back up check out the app market again. Search somthing, go down the line and that CHOPY LAG again. I end up checkin out a few more of my social apps and email and turn it back off in frustratsion. I am now at 10% or less on my battery in less then 24 hrs with LIGHT use. Have been TOO reading forums and know I am not doing much if anything wrong with my phone at all. So software issues? I think so. tottally unfair for us who paid a good $230 for this phone (back in march for me) to be having to deal with soo many problems. And this phone isnt even the one I paid for! It's a REFURB! Worse then my other, I want it back if this is the case. Same with my girlfriend who shares a line with me. Can't even BEGIN with hers! Her refurb is the worst! Lock ups. Freezes. Restarts! I'll Stop there. I've got three videos of that garbage. As to all who have paid the hard earned money ($460) for both mine and my girls...WE DESERVE A RECALL!!! derekf302, You haven't done as much forum reading as you claim if you haven't heard of Circle Battery Widget. It gives 1% battery increments.
24 hours on a charge? How long have you had this phone? I've never gotten, or even tried to take it, past about 8 hours. It is what it is. The large displays saps the battery. It isn't an iphone with a tiny display.
Your complaints about a laggy display and general bugs I do not argue with. I have found that after the updates, in time, the bugs subside as apps are updated. You said you had the same issues without apps installed?
I had problems with stock apps and widgets, so I won't argue that, either.
As for this forum, you won't get much assistance just coming in and blasting this phone. My attitude towards the phone is love/hate and like a relationship, sometimes you stick with it even though you aren't happy a lot of the time.........until something better comes along.

Circle Battery Widget, Yes! THANK YOU! (I guess I havent read much) Perfect...exactly what I was looking for! But any ideas as to why the phone doesnt say the EXACT % anyways? A GB thing?? The Chopy/Lag...Yes it MAY be because I am in a low signal area but then again on the site it says I'm fully covered. I even got a little bit of 4G extended coverage according to the map. In actuality it DOES seem like the signal has been weak since the original GB update from the first FROYO which was AMAZING when I first got my original X. So I don't understand. You'd think signal would be better with a software update. I didnt realize the battery might get warm due too weak radio signal...odd. But I DO try not using my phone while charging as I have read that it most deff. will cause battery heat. Now to clarify the charging mix up, I DID NOT have it on a charger for 24 hrs or a little less, I was implying that I had had a full battery TWO times yesterday and it was down to 10% before going to bed. So my phone drained a full battery 2 times in less then 24 hrs with LIGHT use is what I meant to type. Sorry, last night I was not in a good mood and needed to vent about my frustrations with the phone. As to getting another refurb, whats to say they are the same? or worse? How many times can we be replaced until we get what I feel we deserve? I know its not a useres error either because we're not doing anything MORE with our android phones then any of our friends who have these types of phones too. It just sucks having to deal with soo much **bleep** for no reason. We're not rooters or flashers or anything. Complete stock...everything should run smooth. Sucks about not getting a recall...but the facinate did...could hope cant I? lol. That was over a software update I believe as well. For the site not having the OG DX is still not right in my mind still. They can continue to sell the Droid Pro? Almost as old, if not older (not sure) and the Droid 2??? But not the OG DX? IDK dont register to me. Maybe a VZW employee knows!?!?!? The replacement...hmmm, going to give it a try I guess and keep going if they give me problems. They'd have to do SOMETHING new if it stays consistant wouldnt you think? Well thankfully I have connects to a VZW store owner myself so I'll go speak with her today and see what she can get me...wish me luck!

The coverage maps are only for reference, no guarentee on how good the signal will be at any one place. Radio signals are affected by terrain, buildings, type of construction of buildings, weather, and distance from the tower. My signal quality at home fluctuates from 1 to 4 bars depending on where I am in the house. We have a lot of old electrical wires in the house that affect the quality of the signal. If you have a lot of trees around, that also affects the quality of the signal. You call light use by the amount of time you have fingers on the glass, but there are also background stuff happening. If you have email, facebook, 5 different widgets, twitter, and possibly other apps checking for updates every 15 minutes, that takes CPU cycles and battery time. If you have a 3g signal, the radio would be looking for a better signal. So with all these things happening at once, that will take life out of the battery without you having fingers on the glass. I am not saying you have all this happening, just trying to illustrate that there is more happening than fingers on glass usage.Sorry, last night I was not in a good mood and needed to vent about my frustrations with the phone. It happens. We all get frustated with our technology, the phone, computer, cars, etc. Just remember, before you press post, think about what you have said. Venting sometimes will turn people off on trying to help if someone comes in blasting away. Just a thought As to getting another refurb, whats to say they are the same? or worse? How many times can we be replaced until we get what I feel we deserve? As many as it takes. I know its frustrating, but my wife had to get 3 replacements for her D2G before we got a good one. The original worked fine for about 5 months, then when making a phone call, it would restart. Then if you were lucky you could make the call, if not, it would restart again. The first replacement had a large uneven gap where the slider is. The second replacements speaker phone did not work. The third replacement is working just fine.I know its not a useres error either because we're not doing anything MORE with our android phones then any of our friends who have these types of phones too. It just sucks having to deal with soo much **bleep** for no reason. We're not rooters or flashers or anything. Complete stock...everything should run smooth.Yes it should run smooth, but the warranty works when the phone doesn't run smooth.Sucks about not getting a recall...but the facinate did...could hope cant I? lol. That was over a software update I believe as well.If I remember correclty, they had an update that bricked many phones to a point where they could not even flash the original operating system back on it. Those had to be replaced, but I don't think they had a recall on it... Just replace the phone at no cost if it was briFor the site not having the OG DX is still not right in my mind still. They can continue to sell the Droid Pro? Almost as old, if not older (not sure) and the Droid 2??? But not the OG DX? IDK dont register to me.The Pro has no direct updated replacement, so it stays on. The Droid X2 replaces the Droid X as an updated model, so the X is no longer available for sale. It doesn't matter how long it has been for sale, if there is an updated model, the original model is discontinued.Maybe a VZW employee knows!?!?!? The replacement...hmmm, going to give it a try I guess and keep going if they give me problems. They'd have to do SOMETHING new if it stays consistant wouldnt you think? Well thankfully I have connects to a VZW store owner myself so I'll go speak with her today and see what she can get me...wish me luck! That is up to the polcies of Verizon. It would take a few replacements before they can offer you the X2 as a replacement. Good luck
Circle Battery Widget, Yes! THANK YOU! (I guess I havent read much) Perfect...exactly what I was looking for! But any ideas as to why the phone doesnt say the EXACT % anyways? A GB thing??
It is not programmed that way. Android default is only shows each 10%. The widget is programmed to be a finer detail than that.
Software doesn't help a radio signal. The coverage maps are only for reference, no guarentee on how good the signal will be at any one place.
