Random Speaker Static

So I didn't notice this before the 2.3.6 update. Mainly because I use a bluetooth headset paired with my phone, but today I forgot it at home and in all of my calls, using the handset and holding it up to my ear, about every 10 or so seconds there's a loud static sound.

I just read that this was a common problem before the update but I was wondering if any of you are experiencing the same thing after the update? Is there anything I can do to make it go away? This is my 3rd droid charge in 5.5 months, replacing it is getting old...

Yes, it's driving me crazy. It only started after the update was installed. Customer service had me take the battery out, etc,

but it's still happening completely randomly during calls, speakerphone or not. Sounds like a software problem, from the forums

I've read. Anyone else know anything about this? Doesn't sound worth replacing the phone for, if it can happen just as easily on a new one. Thanks!

I also started to get the random Speaker Static after the update on Friday. Boy this update was a bad one for the Charge. Any Help would be nice.

Yeah, I am having the exact same problem. No static issues until the update, its very loud and annoying. Is there any way to roll back to Froyo? I am also consistently being logged out of Facebook and Twitter on a 24 hour basis now. Terrible update, IMO

I allowed the update and I've been getting those crazy static noises as well. Verizon technicians are absolutely no help. Maybe enough compliants will prompt a fix.

I do recall after the update a few day later I decided to plug in my Skull Candy earbuds and sit in my apartment and enjoy some tunes. I do remember hearing a crackel and popping noise every once in awhile. I will have ot test it now, I thought it might have been my earbuds. I'm at work now on lunch I will have to hear how it sounds with a different pair of earbuds.

update: sounds fine today, maybe it was the song I listend to or it was the earbuds. :smileyhappy:

I am also getting the same annoying static bursts. I was excited for this update and now I'm just annoyed....

I have the same problem, I haven't heard that it was a problem on my wife's phone but it only started after the GB update and it only happens during calls. I can play music and it's not a problem then, only in calls. Some calls are fine but on other calls it might happen 3 or 4 times. It's certainly an annoying sound when it blasts in your ear!

I got a replacement phone and all is working well. Could be that the prior replacement phone I got to fix another issue was just bad.

My wife works near the mall so I let her take mine today to get the ghost armor replaced on the screen and I have hers. She called me a few minutes ago and it's happening on her phone now, she said she never noticed it before.

I'm thinking that the new update has a bad sound driver included or they used multiple speaker types in these phones and only created the update for one. I didn't start hearing it until I adjusted the volume, once I did that, the static happens every 5-10 seconds. It's possible that this speaker is blown too.

Would really be cool to get the official stance on this though...When I called in to report it before, they had me factory reset the phone like that would fix it...lol.

I am adding my experience to the fray... I too am getting this issue and it is very annoying as the static is very loud. Clearly this is an issue that needs to be addressed because my phone never did this until I did the GB update.

This is a ridiculous problem! My phone was working perfectly fine until I hit that update button...The static is annoying and painful. For such an expensive phone/service, we're certainly not getting the support necessary to fix this problem. This is ovbiously NOT a hardware problem, the phone had no issues before the update, and everyone else is describing the exact same thing. FIX THE CODE and the sound drivers and give us a real update or at least some sort of aknowledgment.

I update to GB about a week ago and have been having the same problem every since. I only get the noise during phone calls, not while I'm playing music or watching a video. No issues when using a regular wired headset. You would think that after how long it took VZW and Samsung to roll out GB for the Charge that there would not be a problem like this...

I'm having the same problem here with my fiancée's phone...

I called Verizon once regarding this issue and I've already tried everything besides replacing the phone.

Including resetting/wiping/battery pulls with no success fixing the issue. Verizon will need to implement a fix on their end as this is clearly a software or hardware defect....

I have taken a look into this issue, and since the Gingerbread update, some users are reporting random noises ranging from crackling to a fax tone. The issue has been escalated to Samsung, and they are working on a fix. We do not have an ETA for when the patch will be available as it is still in development.

I just wanted everyone to know that we are looking into this problem and escalating to Samsung. Any updates, workarounds, or fixes I come across, I'll be sure to update here. Thanks for your patience regarding this issue. We'll keep you posted.

Thanks! The attention is much appreciated as I can only use my Droid Charge with a wired headset at this point.

Add me. So Annoying!!! and painful. When will an update be available. This did not occur prior to the system update so clearly it is a software issue.

This is still happening... This has been happening for over 3 months now.

Can we get an update?

I love my phone for everything except making phone calls because of this issue and that is just plain wrong!

Good news gang! I had my first ‘Shrill-Free’ call that lasted ten minutes. This one successful call was the first one I’ve tried since I’ve selected the “Noise Reduction” option in the other call settings, to enable enhanced noise reduction under the call settings. I also had the Voice Privacy selected and had the network type set to CDMA only since we don't have 4G here. Who knows, we might be on to something here. I’ll keep you posted. In the mean time, try selecting this option in your voice quality settings. I just tested another three minute voice call, same result. No Static! It's now a waiting game to see if it works permanently, I’m e-mailing Samsung. Good Luck to you.

So they rolled out a new update last week. Installed it as fast as I could and looked up the release notes while waiting on it to finish. Included in the release notes is this:

+ Complete calls without experiencing choppy audio, clicking noises and/or

one-way audio noises.

I took this to mean the static noise but today i was on a call and received another bit of static. Looks like it has been greatly reduced but not solved.

As a side note I am very happy to see a number of other buggy issues that have been fixed by this latest update.

I was hoping the latest upgrade would have gotten rid of the horrid static bursts that about do in my ear. Alas, nope, still happening all the time. Unfortunately, it is very random. I have 4G and voice privacy is selected. Today in one call, the static bursts were fairly regular every few minutes then stopped. It is so inconsistent but when it happens it is horrible. Guess it is time to get a new phone, even though this one is only 8 months old.
