Im wondering if there is any way for parents to view the content of their kids text messages on the family plan.
Ive been googling this but have been seeing mixed answers
Thanks, spottedcatfish and budone, for your replies.
Hello tikiman69,
There isn't a way to retrieve the content of text messages unless you have a search warrant. In our system text messaging content is kept an average of 3-5 days but not more than 10 days from the time the message is delivered. If you simply would like to view the messages details such as date, time and number sent to/received from please feel free to login to My Verizon. Here you can view the text messages on your current bill cycle as well as the last 12 months of messages details.
Yes, you can view the content of the text directly on the phone that it was sent to or from. If you don't have the phone, or the texts were deleted, you will not be able to view them without a court order. Even then, Verizon only stores text data on their server for a few days (5-10).
There are monitoring applications out there offered by 3rd parties that may have the functionality you're looking for, or you may want to tell your child not to delete texts, and then use the list of text date/time/numbers from your detailed bill to verify the texts on your child's phone as you check their content.
thanks for the reply.
I saw a thread a few pages back about this same thing though, and someone was saying you can call the company and get them sent to you?
The ONLY way to get text content sent from VZW is to invest in a lawyer, and get a judge to sign off on a subpoena. Then have the subpoena presented to VZW, (there is a number for that) then pay VZW to provide what they have, which will be the last 5-10 days TOPS of content.
It is easier to take the phone and just look. If messages are deleted compared to the text log, block and cancel texting service, data, and leave them with GASP, JUST A PHONE.
Parenting works wonders and they will get the message.
good.
