Does anyone else feel jipped by the release of the Droid Max?

So I switched from my iphone 4 to the Droid Razr because I wanted a fast 4g phone and this is what I got...

I cant turn on 4g unless I want 5 hour battery life.

I cant use wifi unless I want 5 hours of battery life.

I have to limit the numbers of apps and widgits I use.

And best of all there releasing the Droid Max two months later, for the same price with better battery life!

how is this not a slap in the face?

John, Just like computers, the next great device comes out the minute ya purchase the one you have and the exchange period has ended.

That is why as consumers we need to research which device we REALLY WANT, because just around the corner, the manufacturers are watching and waiting to release the next best thing since sliced bread, once you make your purchase. You cant have Buyers Remorse every time a new phone comes out.

Oh come on! To release a crappy product and then 2 months later release a better one for the same price is messed up! Btw the only reason I had to switch from the iPhone was because work required the use of a mobile hot spot and they wanted the fast 4g speeds.

Exactly what do you do at work?

Some people get 5 hours of life, and some people get more than 10 hours of life. It's all about how you use the phone. With my Nexus I can get 18 hours on average, but there are some days where I'd be lucky to get 5 hours. Both times are with 4G on all the time... With at least 1-2 hours of talk time throughout the day.

There's so many other factors that affect battery life as well... A lot of people tend to consider themselves light users, but are actually heavy users based on the apps they have installed and what they do in the background...

Then get your work to purchase the Razr MAXX for you.... Besides, there were other phones out there that were 4G, and can be used as a mobile Hotspot. There are also other options that you had, rather than upgrade to another phone, there is the MiFi...

You bought something on the bleeding edge....

I understand how you feel. I don't have a problem with the battery, as you do. So, I am okay to keep mine. I don't like the trouble of switching phones. But I really do think it was a pretty quick re-release...whatever you call it. You have a right to feel a little 'jipped'.

Thank you! When I purchased the phone I was told that it had the best battery life by Verizon and Cnet.... now there both saying that the phone has huge battery problems. I thought I was smart and did enough research... I contacted Verizon and they said that when they release the Droid Max they should also be releasing a battery update for the Razr's. So their waiting till they release the new phone to fix the old one lol? I cant believe how complicated this is.

It probably has something to do with Ice Cream Sandwich Update which is why its taking so long. I hope it fixes the battery problems, do you have 4g on all day?

just a tip.....but i leave my tbolt on 3g until i actually need 4g. one charge lasts all day on my phone and it's an awful battery and the tbolt is a battery hog. just leave it on 3g until you need 4g. if you do need 4g speeds and to tether at work all day, then you need to break down and get mifi or something. the tethering is nice, but keep in mind that these are not designed to be you permanent/constant internet provider. it's a feature and it's nice, but it's designed to be a phone and not a modem. i loved the look and features of the razor, but the fact that you can't keep a spare battery or get an extended battery was a deal breaker for me. androids just don't have great battery life, so i simply won't buy one that doesn't have a removable battery. also remember that the droidX2 was released, then a few months later the bionic, then a few months later the razr, and dinally the max will be released. if you look over the past 2 years, motorola has always launched a new android on verizon at least every few months. since the original motorola droid (less than 2 and a half years ago), there have probably been over a dozen motorola androids launched on verizon.

no i do not feel cheated because i got my Razr at Costco and it came with a 4 hour rechargeable battery,hdmi out and a $229.00 price tag.plus i have never needed the extra plug in battery as i only drain 50% of my battery on average per day.

yes I totally feel giped. Verizon pulled a fast one on us by pushing this phone knowing it had major issues. The Max may not fix the software bugs, but it would be nice not to have to run from charger to charger all day.

Its nice to hear from someone who actually OWNS THE PHONE, and feels my

pain. I understand that phone models come out all the time but, to make one

modle and then upgrade it 2 months later is a slap in the face considering

that were locked into 2 year agreements.

You are locked into a 2 year contract because you chose the phone you have in your hands and chose to have it subsidized. No one forced you to sign the agreement or take the subsidization. I could have got the Razr at a penny, but I opted not to. I ended up waiting for the Galaxy Nexus.

that's cute, but it's not enough when they replace your phone seven weeks after its debut. I wasn't sore about the nexus - it's not that hot - but to find out that a new razr is out there and fixes what we've been complaining about! grr, it sucks. The razr was pushed to market too fast, and they know it. All of us who jumped on board are getting the shaft.

It's amazing how many different perceptives you'll get just by one question "Does anyone else feel jipped by the release of the Droid Maxx?" The answer plain and simple is "YES". All the computer trolls can make it digestible if they want. But the fact of the matter is this, the Razr Maxx was in production at the same time if not very close to the same time as the launch of the Razr. I purchased my Razr last month. I loved it, it was going to be the phone I was going to keep minus the battery life. I turned the LTE off to save battery life. Because I use the phone for what its for. Not just to sit in your purse or pocket all day. Using a Razr without LTE is like driving a Mustang Saleen with a V6 motor.

When the press release from Verizon announced the launch of the Maxx in the coming weeks. I returned my Razr on day 29. Now I'm back to my Droid X which is soooooo slowwww. Waiting for Verizon to release the Razr Maxx. Now I here Motorola wants to show off its battery capability on some website in February. Wooptido Motorola no need to show off.

Thank-you for your response, I never posted anything online before and all I can say is that "trolls" are evil. I run an office and am also a law student, I don't have time to be researching cellphones all day. I just expected to buy a product and have it work! Needless to say I am typing this on my iPhone 4 because the charging port broke today and I need to take it to the store to be fixed and then sell on eBay!

Why do people buying new phones then if they continuously complain about how newer better phones come out later. as above,people have said just wait for the better version to come out. What's with the need to consistantly upgrade your phone to a supposedly great device that obviously will have problems. I got a samsung stratosphere. no problems fast speeds long battery life. not new, not $300, and not the greatest thing out there, but great no complaints either

We both switched back to out OLD phones because the phone has NO battery life.... We don't want a phone that works without being plugged into a wall. -_-

Don't you think a company should stand behind their product???Do you think maybe they came out with the Droid Razor Max because they know the Droid Razor battery life is unacceptable.The original reviews for the Droid Razor were great,now that its been out a while everyone is changing their reviews(Cnet,PC World)

I got the Droid Incredible three months before the Droid Incredible 2 came out. I had no inkling that HTC was even in the process of making a better version of my phone. I was mad, but I got over it. It really isn't a big deal. I'm still with my little screwy Incredible and I am cool with it. I don't always need the newest thing or brand. I upgrade in July and I bet my last dime, they will find a way to come out with a newer version of whatever phone I choose to get. But I will be happy, nonetheless. I'm so used to charging once a day, that I'm sure my next phone will be no different. But I never get an iPhone. Just throwing that out there. lol

i only know a couple of people with the razr, but they've had no issues with the battery. they get about 3 hours of real uptime and plenty of idle/standby time to get through the day. as demmo mentioned earlier, you will get very similar true awake time (when you are actually using it and the screen is on) from just about every android (2-3 hours). now, if you're in areas often, that have poor reception, that can drastically drain the battery if it's constantly looking for a signal. different people use devices differently and i'm glad your iphone works well for you.....but i've seen a few complaints about the battery of the razr and people state that cnet and other sites have rated it poorly, and then i see this?

I bet if I had the razr I could get 10+ hours out of it. Some people think they are "light" users but don't understand they might be but their background data or apps they use may have a bug and stop their phones from idling. Running a task killer wastes battery.

I understand both points of view here. New technology is always coming out, so it is smart to research for when phones will be coming out. I originally planned to get the Razr until I started reading about the Nexus, I waited for the release of that phone and am glad I did.

However, I would be mad if I purchased the Razr only to find out that verizon was releasing basically the same phone, with just a bigger battery for the same price. I think its lame verizon didn't just release the one with the bigger battery first, they had to have known the razr would have battery issues. But that's the pains of having so much technology available

ditto tidbits. i'd be curious to see the real uptime on the phone because i'm betting it is at least 2 hours (likely closer to 3). EVERY android is going to get about 2-3 hours of uptime. where the difference lies, is whether you use it for those 2 hours in the first 5-8 hours of it being fully charged. if you do, then yes, it will be dead in 5-8 hours. ie: carge it and immeditely watch a movie....it will be dead. charge it and spend 1-2 hours on it (texting, browsing, calls, emails, etc) then it won't last long. but if you use it off and on for a couple of hours throughout the day, then you'll get 10+ hours. if you fully charge it and barely use it (1/2-1 hour) and it's dead in 5 hours, then it's defective. i know people with razors and they simply don't have a bad battery life (no worse than any other android)

so I just went a couple rounds with Verizon customer service about the new maxx. Their reply was basically what you'd imagine, "screw you." I spoke with a supervisor who repeated that message, essentially. I also spoke with her boss who said that it's not their problem. New phones get released all the time and we didn't know what Motorola was going to do. She also said they haven't gotten any calls about the Razr's bad battery life. They say the issue of battery life is Motorola's problem, not verizons, and if Motorola feels that it's an error, they will have to recall the phone. The next patch is also suppose to improve battery life - a point never mentioned in any notes about the leaked upgrade. My stance on this is that Motorola issued the "fix" in the form of the Maxx and now it falls to Verizon to satisfy its customers. Since Tamika at extension xxxx (phone xxx-xxx-xxxx) hasn't recieved phone calls about this, we should call her.

Make no mistake: Verizon has you locked into a contract with a phone with an inadiquate battery and they plan to do nothing to help you. big brother my ass

You must not be a iPhone user because this has been their pattern since the first one hit the market.. Can some one say the iPhone 4 , 4S and 5.... Not to forget that none of them is 4G which mean still using hardware from original devices..

This isn't no different than what Motorola did with the Droid X and then a few months later they released the Droid X2, this is all a game and you shouldn't jump into a game until you understand the stakes..

The release of the Maxx isn't ideal considering I ,like many others, bought the Razr. However, as far as the performance of my Razr - the battery hasn't been something I feel is hindering my usage. I do have to make sure that I charge it every night, and I keep the portable Motorola charge device with me at all times but I do not feel that I am having to recharge every time I turn around. Maybe since I have had 5 diff types of Droids prior to the Razr I am used to this? That being said, considering everything that I use my phone for, I would more than likely do the same with the Maxx. I have had the Razr since not long after its release and am still not having any complaints about the phone( i travel with work, and so many areas are not fully 4G yet and the lag while the phone switches between the two is my biggest complaint....the Maxx cant fix the lacking 4G coverage - to my knowledge). We all know how often new phones are released, and I have def. purchased a phone, that ended up being a dud in comparison to the hype made about it (the Droid Bionic) only to have the Razr introduced as the phone the bionic was supposed to be. Anyway, in the end no one's phone is the newest/best version for very long now.

Oh man you are sooo right. I got mine online the day it came out. Thought I had 30 days to test drive it. Tried to return it on day 15 and found out I couldn't because they had changed it to 14 days. Whaaa??? There is something wrong when you have to keep the phone plugged into the wall in order to use it? I even went out and bought an extension chord to be able to use it everywhere in my room at home. I even told them I wanted to go back to my droid one. They still said no!! UGH!

The 14 day Test Drive has been around for a Year Now! an your only option for a different phone is to buy another one out right. Or if you have issues with your Razr and have to take it back is you'll have to get a Refurbished one.

Yes and no. My wife got me the Razr for christmas. Way more than the usual dvd or shirt. I saw the release of the Razr Maxx coming at the CES in Las Vegas. I was kinda mad at first but, hey the razr is still way better than the Samsung Alias that I had. First rule of electronics " JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOU HAVE THE LATEST AND GREATEST SOMETHING ELSE COMES OUT ". We live in a incredible age of technology,be glad we have it !!!

I have a Droid RAZR.

I was very disappointed in this phone. Due to short battery life I must be near a charger to use any of the smart phone features.

I have turned off my LTE capability and use CDMA only mode so I have enough battery to get through the day.

Verizon then adds insult to injury when the RAZR MAXX comes out. They obviously knew the RAZR was a substandard product and had a usable phone in the works to replace it.

I need a phone that will hold a charge all day.

I am not playing games, watching videos or streaming music.

I feel my substandard phone should be replace by the MAXX, Because verizon should have waited til the MAXX was ready instead of rushing a bad product to market.

I would get an IPhone but because of 3.5 inch screen noway. My friend has IPhone and plays with it all day and only charges once a day where I am always charging my Razr and before same thing with Revolution and Fascinate. IPhone is the way to go, hope the IPhone 5 has 4 inch plus screen

I turned on my Razr at 7am, used it all day, 13hrs 45mins later I still have 60%

battery life.I dont know how you have yours adjusted through Smart Action Apps,

But I am really pleased with my phone.

I feel jipped...But I have the regular razr. I bought it about two months ago for full upgrade price of $300. What ticks me off, is there was no mention that the Maxx would be coming out with a better battery life and the Razr price would be dropping. 32 days after spending $300 on an upgrade to the Razr, the Razr Maxx comes out and the price of the Razr drops to $150...And since I am out of the 14 day grace period, I get nothing but, "It sux to be you" from VZW Customer Support.
