Update to android version 2.3.4 causing issues

I got a notice to update this morning, so I did it. Now half of my market apps are needing to be downloaded again. I also have Amazon android apps that were free apps of the day and it won't show them on my phone. It says to reinstall them. I click on it and it says it's reinstalling, but nothing is happening. It also took a whole bunch of memory from the phone memory on the update. Is there a fix for the above issues? The wife has the same phone and hasn't gotten the update yet. Is the update worth it? Is there a way to go back to the prior version? I know there have been answers in prior posts, but can't seem to find any issues that are the same as mine. I am not a technical person, nor is my phone rooted.

That was a problem when they first pushed this update. Unmount your SD card. Remount it, and reboot. I just had to do it, and everything was fine. Took about 2 minutes for all the app icons to update after the 2nd reboot, but then it was fine.

Looks like the Market still says "Sprint." Guess they didn't fix that at all.

I had the same problem. Had to reinstall a few apps. Before I did anything the low storage notification came back on. I've deleted almost every single app on my phone - down to the ones I use daily - no extras. And I still constantly get the notification. This is getting frustrating.

Remounting my SD card did nothing- I had to reinstall my apps that were missing.

How many optional apps should this phone be able to handle?

Had the same problem. All the app that I had saved on my SD card stop working. So I download all those apps again and moved back to my SD card. To my surprise the 'corrupted' file on my SD card get replace by the new download so it just like nothing ever happen . So have fun downloading

I had the same low storage problem on my wife's phone. Turns out it was a Facebook app (she had 2 installed) that was messing up the storage. Uninstalled and everything was fine after.

I got the update this morning and I noticed all the apps installed to the SD card were not working, so I unmounted the SD card and remounted it and everything worked fine. Then I restated the phone and now the apps on the SD card won't work again. So unmounted and mounted again, and now they're back. Am I going to have to do that every time I turn the phone off and on????

I hope NOT because I have the same frikking problem. I am in the process now of mounting and unmounting my SD card, but I just re-booted the phone, now I wish I hadn't. I'll see if the apps returned.... nope ... they are gone. Now let me try the SD unmount/remount without a re-boot... and YES, they are all there again!

But I am with you ... will I have to do this EVERY time my phone re-boots??!! grrrrrrrr.......

JasonSCarter ... thank you for your post/comment! I was going crazy looking all over my phone for my missing apps, and did NOT want to download all of them again. The reboot actually makes them disappear, so I stopped at the unmount/mount step. They are all there again, until I guess the phone re-boots itself next time. I hope they fix this, but at least I know it is an easy retrieval process now. Thanks!

yep same issue with the SD card apps. Also is anyone getting problems with screen rotation? I primarily use my phone in landscape. however i will turn off my screen and after a few minutes i turn it back on and its in portrait.

My phone updated this morning to v2.3.4 but to build No. 4.06.605.3 and NOT build No. 4.08.605.2 like it says on the Verizon site here:

I read that they might have to force out this original build of v2.3.4 before sending out the new build.

@DBWhits: Where did you read that?

I'm holding off on applying this update because as far as I can tell, it's been nothing but a Charlie Foxtrot - my wife got it on her DInc over a month ago and has had constant "Low Storage" problems ...which doesn't sound too terrible until you realize that it means that most of the phone's data syncing services won't pull down any data when the "Low Storage" notification is up! No Gmail, no text messages - she can't even sign into Google Talk.

BUT... if DBWhits' info is correct and they have to first apply this borked update before they send out the update-to-the-update that will make it all warm and fuzzy again, then I'll deal with it.

Earlier today on droid-life.com I saw this comment from JasonSCarter:

Two updates are rolling out right now. The original (buggy) 4.0.6 update, and the new 4.0.8 that fixes the bugs from the original update. If you never got the original Gingerbread update, you are getting prompted to go to the 4.0.6 buggy version. If you were already on 4.0.6, you should get prompted to go to 4.0.8. I just finally got updated to 4.0.6 this morning. Time will tell how long it will be before I can get the 4.0.8 version that fixes all the bugs. Market still says Sprint, but it appears I can at least get text messages.

Not sure where that info came from but I can't find ANY other info, esp. from Verizon. I only lost one or two app's and I am not getting any storage issues messages or anything but it is frustrating that this is coming out this way.

Verizon really should be more helpful with this...

Haven't had any problem with apps on my SD card, but I am experiencing the typical "low storage space" bug constantly, and more disturbingly I get an error reading android.process.media force close every time I open an app, sometimes just at random. I can't play or access any media, even stock ringtones don't work. I've cleared all download caches and all the other tricks I've heard of and it does nothing. I haven't seen anyone on this or any other forums discussing this. Anyone have any suggestions? Think I may have got that 406 build and just need to hold out for the 408? Cuz it's been about 12 hours and these shenanigans are killing me. {edited to comply with Terms of Service}

Any insight would be welcome.

I am having the exact same problem. I deleted all my aps that I put on there, deleted all my pics and still says that I am low on storage.

As a follow up:

This morning I was prompted to install another update and this time it would be to 4.08.

I accepted and after the phone rebooted it indicated that I did not have sufficient space to load the update.

When I checked the memory I have 5 of 7.4GB available on the SD card and 537 of 748MB available on the phone memory.

How is THAT a memory issue. They really need to figure this out, and soon.

I did the update last night and it deleted all of my photos I took with my phone. When I called verizon, they informed me that you have to move your photos to your SD card or they would all be deleted.I am not the best with technology so it would have been nice if there was some kind of warning. I don't even see a difference with the update so I am really upset.

Try this, I found it through google. It was submitted by a guy named Fazer, and it works like a champ. If you are running Adavanced Task Killer Froyo, delete it...it is not compatible with the Gingerbread operating platform.

Good luck, it may take one or two trys, BUT IT WORKS!

This is what I got to work to get the 4.08.605.2 update installed successfully on two different Incredibles, both stock/non-rooted, one with a lot of extra apps, and one with only two extra apps. It looks like a lot of work, but is actually very easy to complete, and NO factory reset is required:

- Move as many apps as you can to the SD card (for those having issues accessing them on the SD card, the upgrade to 4.08.605.2 cured this for me).
- Clear out as much text messaging space as you can, especially images. Alternately, you can delete them all. Messages eat a lot of processing memory on these phones.
- Hit the Clear Data (and/or Clear Cache) button on large use applications (email, Gmail, facebook, etc.) After doing this, do not access those apps until after installing the update. For some, you will have to sign in again, but no data was lost since they're synced items. (To do this step, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, select the All tab at the top, and go into each app you want to manage.)
- Press & hold the Power Button and choose Restart.
- As soon as the screen goes blank, press and hold the Power Button and the Volume Down button at the same time.
- A white menu screen will appear, it will take a second and it will perform a small self-check. Then using your Volume Down button, scroll down one spot to Recovery and press the Power button to select it. The phone will immediately show the HTC Incredible screen.
- Then a black screen will appear showing the phone and a red triangle with exclamation point, at this point press and hold the Volume Up button and then press the Power button. Using your Volume Down button again, scroll down to Wipe Cache Partition and press the Power button to select it. This will not delete anything on the phone, just clear a stagnant memory cache.
- After this is complete, select Reboot System Now. Let the phone restart completely.
- Go to Settings > About Phone > System Updates and see if the update shows. If it does, simply select Download or Reboot & Install. If it fails again due to "not enough memory", you need to clear more apps and data and repeat the above steps until it works.
- If the update does not show, back out to Settings, choose Date & Time, uncheck the Automatic box, and set the date 1 year ago from today (11-xx-2010), and hit Ok.
- Return to About Phone > System Updates, it may still show "Your system is currently up to date." Back out and then go right back in to System Updates. It should be downloading the 4.08.605.2 patch update file. Reboot and Install when it prompts you. If it fails again due to "not enough memory", you need to clear more apps and data until it works.
Give it time to install, on one of my phones it took only a few minutes and on the other it took closer to 10 minutes. On one phone the Droid eye appeared for only a minute and then the phone started up completely and on the other it appeared for closer to five minutes. After the install, remember to return your Date & Time to automatic.
For any apps that aren't accessible and show up with the Droid icon, you should be able to select and remove the icon and simply add it back from your App menu. Alternately, you can re-download it from your Market.

Well, I tried the part where I'm supposed to set my phone to a year ago and well, it never rebooted. The software update screen showed up, it counted down from 10 and continued to sit there with the "Cancel Installation" prompt.

So... now what? I'm almost ready to go to an iPhone because, well, this is just insane and ridiculous. No phone should ever have to go through this much crap.

Ran that system update after seeing the notification. Now the phone has issues and I have repeatedly get notifications about installing another system update. I figured it was a fix for the bad update but when I try to run nothing happens. Just says it is rebooting, does the count down and then nothing. It just goes back to the home with notifications about low storage space.

Going to find out if a factory reset will take it back to the original version that worked fine.
