What Apps & Services Can I Turn OFF Safely?

I looked in on what was currently running on my BIONIC. There had to have been 20 or more apps or services running. Whenever I attempted to turn off any service or close an app, I'd get a message saying that if I close, or stop this app or service, my phone is going to start acting erratically (or something similar).

What's up with that? I know that every one of the "currently running" in the list were not essential to just use my phone and connect to a WI-FI?

So, does anyone know what essential services and apps should stay running, just to get basic services (as mentioned above). I believe these things were killing my battery and eating my RAM.

You can not turn off software completely, whatever app you close the system will automatically reopen the app.

Here is a list of things that would be safe to turn off, if you are able to turn any of them off. Not saying you can, just saying these things shouldn't affect your phone's essential functions...

Well, kinda. Android has a certain amount of memory it actively uses. It makes use of this memory as best it can, so if you cloase down a bunch of apps with an app killer, it will try to open others, if not the same ones. As far as Android OS is concerned, unused memory is a waste. There are ways and means to adjust things, but we're not allowed to talk about them here.

I agree but I was attempting to give the simplest answer because when you express additional information the point gets lost in some users translations.. Other words than explaining in detail its easier to just point out the end results.

I see your point, but it's just not true that whatever app you close Android just turns back on. Usually it starts up others altogether, unless you're running an app that is calling another app.

And I like when people give me a proper explanation rather than just saying something vaguely resembling a half answer. Not trying to start an argument, it's just hard to learn anything from misinformation.

Sure, I know that you are fairly new around here, so let's take a moment and lay out some info for you about Wildman.

He makes his living developing software and apps. No one around here is smarter or sharper than he (assuming the gender, but I'm fairly certain about that.. :smileyhappy:

. And because of that and his willingness to help folks with their issue, he takes a lot of guff because,(1) the correct answer is not what the poster wanted to hear and (2), he is attempting to offer an answer that will be helpful, but not overwhelm the poster asking the question.

Apparently, his style of responding to posters in need of help doesn't suit you. But he has a stellar record of helping folks around here, which you can see with a little searching.

There are plenty of places around the 'Net to find whatever the hell it is you are looking for if you ain't getting it here. My point to you is that Wildman answers, while not what you want to hear, are anything but half-truths.

And why am I responding to you in his place? Because (1) Wildman is too much of a gentlemen to do so like he should and (2) I'm not. At all.

Are you using the mobile view to post from the phone? If you are, switch to the full (desktop) version and then in the post you want to edit pan over to the Options link for that post. Select the "Edit reply" option. The normal reply page will load. Once loaded you will tap on the HTML tab. Now you can touch the text box below to pull up your keyboard and edit the post. You might have adjust where the cursor lands when you touch the text box. SwiftKey keyboard's arrow keys usually work, but sometimes seem a little temperamental. (I posted this reply from my phone using this method.)
