My current 2 year plan is up in April 2012.
I really want a Mango 7.5+ QWERTY Slider Windows Phone from Verizon.
Any insight as to when this might happen?
Thanks,
Jim
I've been asking for this for quite a while, but I don't think VZW cares about Windows Phones, let alone high end Windows Phones.
I highly doubt VZW is going to request a OEM to create a QWERTY slider and the only device I've seen is from Dell who isn't making WP devices anymore
Since they have them for Android, they could have them for WP7...
Like I said, if VZW requests the OEM to do so. The OEM aren't just going to modify an existing Android device to run Windows Phone 7.5 in hoping VZW will offer them to its customers.
Verizon doesn't even have a single Gen 2 WP7 device, so I don't see this happening. There haven't been any WP7 Gen 2 devices with physical keyboards at all. It's all on screen keyboards now. Pickens are pretty slim in the Android word for sliders as well.
It seems to be a trend in all phone OS's that as the onscreen keyboards improve, they move away from physical slideout keyboards since it increases hardware cost, and even though I know some people like them, a majority of people like to have a thinner phone. Until WP7 gains more market share, I doubt you will see OEM's going after that small market that want a WP7 device, that ALSO want a slide out keyboard. And even then, can't say it will be on Verizon.
Thanks for your reply.
Too Bad. WP7 got great press at the recent CES in Las Vegas.
I have signed the petition to motivate VZW to offer a better choice of Windows Phones.
I wasn't thinking of modifying and existing Android device - I was thinking that HTC or Nokia or someone would come with a good WP that has a slideout keyboard.
Well, maybe someone will be smart enough to create an accessory that is a keyboard that we can add on to the existing phone.
Those of use that have very large hands don't like the onscreen keyboards, but with the physical slideout keyboard, it makes things a lot easier.
Here's a glimmer of hope of a slide out, More images of 2010 Sony Ericsson Windows Phone prototype appear. Though I wouldn't hold your breath of VZW carrying it.
Link fixed, thanks SickFreak.
I remember seeing that article (your link is busted.) it was at http://www.wpcentral.com/more-images-2010-sony-ericsson-prototype-appear
Probably not going to happen. People don't want keyboards and i don't see any carrier commissioning a qwerty phone for one carrier (verizon) worldwide.
I'd wager QWERTY android sales are unremarkable and low.
The WP7 keyboard is great and it's unlikely you'd use the hardware keyboard if it were there. Landscape and portrait.
My points to chinch, I know people say "well I have big hands and I don't like on-screen keyboards" but when we have phones that are 4.3 or 4.7 inches now,, even people with big hands can use them. It may just be all in the mind for people to get use to on screen keyboards if they never had one before.
If there was such a big demand for QWERTY keyboard phones, OEMs would be pushing them out left and right, but there isn't sadly.
I say try the on screen keyboard, you may surprise yourself. ATT's HTC Titan is a pretty massive screen, would be hard pressed to find sombody who couldn't use that on screen keyboard.
HTC Arrive has a keyboard, but you'd have to go to Sprint. At least your contract is up soon

The HTC Arrive is a GEN1 device. There haven't been any GEN2 devices with keyboards as far as WP7 goes.
Sprint is terrible in my area.
Some of us have tried the onscreen keyboard. I did and couldn't give it back fast enough.
I understand the want for a physical keyboard for large hands, I was one of them. But with the advent of such advanced spell correction with touchscreens, it really is not much of an issue now. Heck the keys on my screen are larger than any I had on a physical keyboard. Plus there is much less to go wrong with a touchscreen keyboard.
Re: I want a QWERTY Slider Windows Mango 7.5+ Phone
Hi All,
I started this original post because I wanted to, hopefully, let VZW know that we W7P people are truly
alive and are waiting for a QWERTY Windows phone. I currently use a Samsung Alias 2 with a real
keyboard and love it. However I really want to upgrade to a smart phone when my 2 year contract is up in
April this year.
Maybe, just maybe VZW will respond.
Altoid666,
Ha, we cannot even get VZW tell us if they are planing on offering high-end Windows Phones in the near future let alone ones with a QWERTY slider :smileyhappy:
Deal Alert: Unlocked Dell Venue Pro at Buy.com for $269

The poster know there is a WP7 phone with a keyboard, but it is for a GSM system.
Even of it was CDMA/LTE ya could not get it activated on VZW unless it was VZW branded and the ESN was in their system
try it for a week. for smaller screen phones use landscape.
the Titan keyboard in portrait mode is better than any qwerty keyboard on a phone ever sold
The other thing I'm starting to do is research companies that build Bluetooth keyboard slider attachments for other phones and contacting them to see if they're going to be looking into expanding their line to include creating them for other Windows Phones. If other people do this too, maybe one of them will build one for us.
Kudos to you for your proactive action.
Just got a notification from VZW advertizing their Droid 4.... and it has a slideout keyboard....
So much for the argument that customers don't want phones with keyboards....
The more people that contact these companies and request this type of product, the more possibility there is that one of them will do this.
