This is sooo frustrating, lately my phone and my husbands phone both Samsung CHARGES are dropping calls left and right! Literally the calls don't last longer than a minute; It doesn't even come close to a minute long. I checked my call history/usage and there were over 25 calls that were interrupted due to dropped calls. I dont understand it!! I have calls last only 1 min. 12 sec., 49 seconds, 55 seconds and the latest call I tried to make lasted 16 seconds when the call was dropped. The last two attempts were to my husband who was literally 4 feet away from me!!

I have had this phone since the beginning of June and like I said it is just been recently (2 week) that the phone calls have been very inconsistent. Today I have just had it!! Can anyone help me resolve this issue or give me a heads up to what is causing this before I go screaming into the store?

I needs to be said that I don't hate this phone, I just wish its primary reason for being a phone would actually work.

The plus side to this phone is all the apps, the amazing camera, and mult media you can view and use on this hand held device.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

My Droid Charge is doing the exact same thing. They sent me a replacement, which started up in Spanish (obviously not new). The replacement is doing the exact same thing. I am in a great 4g network area. My Droid Charge worked perfectly for one month, with speeds of 15 mg download and 7 mg upload. Then one month ago speeds changed to 3.5 mg download and 1.5 mg upload. I called in to tech support to ask why and they said turn on data roaming. I did what they asked and they felt this would improve speeds. That same day, my phone began dropping calls every few minutes. I turned data roaming back off, no change, still dropping calls. The phone is used for my business and is now a brick which is sitting on a desk. I am now waiting for a new sim card which they feel may correct the issue. I had a galaxy S prior to upgrading to this Charge, it worked perfectly. I needed to have 4g for my business, so I could go to the web while on the phone. They made me pay the highest premium, due to my contract only being one year old, so I paid the ridiculous price of $702 which included tax. I will keep everyone posted on all droid forums on how this progresses. If they cannot get the droid charge working correctly, I completely expect to be reimbursed for the phone (I will keep you posted on the reality). If they pull this or any of my updates from this forum, I will update all other forums with copies of this update and all that follow.

Just within the last 2 days I have started to have this problem with my Charge. I got my phone June 25th and have had less than 2 dropped calls in that time. Now, during the last 2 days, almost every call eventually drops. The calls don't actually drop on my screen as the phone display shows the call still connected and the timer is counting, it's just that I can't hear the caller and they can't hear me. I have to end the call and call back. Now that I see others are having the same problem just in the last few days there is some type of software or Verizon system problem.

Hi everyone, my two certified like new droid charges are doing the EXACT same thing as well. My wife and I have only had them for 6 days and we have started dropping one anotothers calls like crazy. We have also dropped other calls but it mainly seems to between both of our phones. We are only able to stay connected for anywhere from 20 seconds to a minute and a half. We will not be able to hear one another and then we have to end the phone call or the call just drops automatically. Both of us have full bars, and we live in a strong 3g area and where I work has a strong 4g signal. We have never had these problems before with regular featured phones on Verizon at the exact same locations, just the Fascinates (never got calls, we missed texts and the signal was always low, but we could always stay connected on the calls when we got them) and now our Droid Charges (we receive our calls, we just can't stay connected). Has anyone been able to figure this out? I've heard that replacing them SIM cards can help or stop this. I am going to the Verizon store to try and get this problem taken care of. Any help from Verizon reps on here would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm....we are also in Arizona as well....in Scottsdale. I wonder if it is just out here in this area or something? Have any other people had problems like this outside of Az?

I have had my Charge since late May and have maybe 1 dropped call. None lately and I am in Eastern PA.

Yea we've had our Charges now for a few days, and we cannot stay connected to one another or other people for much longer than a minute and a half at most. Some people we call we can talk to without getting cut off and having the call drop. I'd say 75% of all of our calls drop within 20 seconds to 1 and a half minutes. This is FRUSTRATING VERIZON!!!!

I live in the Raleigh NC area and both my wife and myself are having problems with call quality. Usually we can hear other party, but they can not hear us. With both have the Samsung Charge. This is a serious problem since we both use our phones for business. I would love to hear a solution.

I updated my profile as I didn't have the city in it. I am in Phoenix also. That makes 4 of the posters on this thread right here in the Valley of the Sun. Maybe the heat is frying the towers? I have not had a dropped call today. I was so frustrated yesterday as every call I made or received dropped within one minute. Since today is Saturday I had called my home phone on my Charge and just sat the phone down and did some work around the house and almost an hour later the call was still connected. Maybe there was an issue here in Phoenix over the last few days that has been corrected?

Got my Charge as a replacement to the Revo on 7/5. Maybe one or two dropped calls since then in fringe areas. On Thursday night, with full signal strength I couldn't talk for more than a minute or two without dropping the calls. I was stationary in a hotel in Overaland Park, KS. This happened all evening long. I have been in this location many times before with no issues.

Perhaps something else is going on????

can not talk on the phone for more than a minute or so. I was on the phone with rep last night and we reset everything and I still can not even talk to my son for more than a couple seconds and he has the charge also. I have had the phone for a week and will be returning it today

I am in Salisbury MD and having the exact same problem.Verizon has been no help.I got a replacement sent (used phone) and still the same thing.I have been to the store twice and the called customer service twice.I paid $250 for this phone and it dont work. I was told to be patient.I keep getting the same crap questions from them.I am getting very frustrated.It has been three weeks of this. Customer service said that I had 42 dropped calls logged.I would say its actually double that.

Verizon told me its a tower issue.Replacing sim cards and phones will not do anything.The store rep told me last week that all the employees with charges were having the same issue and it would be fixed in a few days.That was over a week ago.Something to do with 4G.We dont even have 4G in this area.Customer service acted like they knew nothing about this.I was told they would get there network team on this and I would here back in 24 to 48 hours.That was Friday afternoon.

Does anyone have lots of network issues as well.My network drops constantly.Watching a youtube video is like nail on a chalk board.My old ENV touch played youtube perfectly 99% of the time.This phone I would say about 2%.

I was at verizon yesterday. Got my sim card replaced and my wifes. We are stillhaving problems. After twenty seconds to a minute or so one of us will not be able to heart one another but the call timer will still keep counting then finally drop. We call reformer back on either phone and still the same thing. So this is supposed to be a tower issue? They better get this fixed soon! I have to be able to stay connected on a **bleep** phone call

I dont even know what to.I now paid for a new phone and own a refurbed phone.My Mom and wife dont even call me because they said there is no point.My network is crap and cant stay connected.This is not at all what I signed up for. Not the best decision I have made for a smartphone.My old Env touch was 10 times better.I really dont know what to do at this point.

yea I hear ya. My lg dare never had any problems. Now my wife and I can't even call eachother for more than two minutes without loosing the call. This is frustrating for a bill well over one hundred dollars a month!

Glad to see all these posts, as I suspected this must be a widespread problem. I frequently lose calls during phone conversations on my new (5/29/11) Samsung Droid Charge. I've also noticed signal strength degradation while using data functions with both Wi-Fi and mobile data connections.

My theory is that the problem is in the device design: specifically, the location of the antenna on the back of the phone - exactly where a user will naturally hold the phone.

When using data functions, I’ve noticed that if I move my hand up (so that it doesn't block the antenna), the signal strength improves. Conversely, if I move my hand back to the natural holding position (where it covers the antenna), the signal strength degrades. So I assume the same happens when I talk on the phone - and, I suspect, could explain the dropped calls.

However, holding the phone near the top during a phone call (in an effort to keep the antenna exposed) is not only awkward and uncomfortable, it also creates another call-dropping hazard. That is, it’s very easy to hit the Power/Lock Key accidentally, and the call is gone! (Can't seem to win...!)

It seems intuitively like a stupid design -- placing an antenna where a user's hand is most naturally going to cover it up, instead of placing it on the top of the phone!

Any support out there for this theory?

Jeh....I like ur theory. Makes sense...just wish there was a fix for this. What a bad design....kinda like the Iphone death grip issue...I wish one of the Verizon employees would get on here and give us some information, at least confirm there is a problem and let us know that they will be working on a fix...or if the towers are causing this issue...I love this phone, I want to keep it, but I need to know what is causing it, the hardware or software, the design, or is it just Verizon's towers?

Interesting theory.I dont think that is it.I have always had network issues since day one.The dropped call thing has happend for the last 3 weeks.The verizon store and customer service have been terrible.I got a call with about a hundred questions the other day from a verizon research center.They asked questions about all the flaws.I wonder if they are aware but dont have a plan. I really wish I would have kept my original phone.I find it ridiculous that I paid for a new phone and have a refurb. I told them I should get a credit and they said they would credit the dropped calls.I said I am not using the phone due to the dropped calls.I am getting very frustrated with this issue.

I made my first call last night to my mother in california (called her verizon cell phone) and I stayed connected the whole conversation (over an hour). I still have problems calling my wifes phone....i can be right next to her or miles away and after twenty seconds to two minutes we can't hear one another and the call timer still counts until it finally drops or we hang up and try again.

Reston, VA again - After several dropped calls to the same Verizon cell # tonite (the other # on my VW plan, btw) - re-calling after the drops, each lasting call less than 5 minutes before being dropped, I started a test to my work Blackberry on Nextel. Connected with no problems for 75 minutes now... I held the phone in my hand as normal for a while, to see if there was some antenna problem like the iPhone, but it didn't drop. This one test isn't definitive, but has everyone been calling another Verizon Wireless number when they get dropped?

Davido...all my dropped calls and issues have ben with people here in arizona on verizon wireless. I've called others in california on their verizon cells and not had a problem.

Update: My Charge is still dropping calls continually. I live in Queen Creek, Arizona. I talk to a business partner in California multiple times each day and drop almost every call. He is also with verizon and has a new Droid Charge. He is not dropping calls and still has speeds of 15 mg download and 7 mg upload. On top of my dropped calls, it seems my data has been throttled to 3.5 mg download and 2.0 mg upload. Data is consistent for two weeks at the low speeds. My first month with my Droid Charge, I was consistently getting 15 mg Down and 7 mg up. I did visit a verizon store yesterday and they did not offer any real solution and told me there was nothing more they could do at this time. I have been sent a refurbished replacement phone to replace my brand new phone. They are sending me a SIM card which probably will not help. I am so disgusted with verizon's network and customer service. I left ATT and gave up the IPhone because of their bad network and poor customer service. I must say that they outperformed verizon in all categories at this point.

I too am in Chandler Arizona. My wife and I are both on Verizon as well as some of my friends. My Samsung Charge drops calls to iPhone, Blackberry, and Droid X, but not the other way around. It seems to happen more frequently when the auto charge cord is attached. The phone shows connected but I cannot hear anyone and thery can't hear me. This just started to happen within the last two weeks. There was a software path that went out about the same time. Perhaps that is what is causing the problem?

So apperently this it NOT a known issue with VZ or the phone itself... I have a hard time believing that NO ONE on this furum has contacted VZ about this problem.... on my second phone and two soft resets, removed the case and the screen protector... Still an issue after about 18 days with the same issue...

Tech support tells me it is a network issue... a bad switch... Again I find it hard to believe that everyone on this forum is in Colorado Springs... SO, you may want to try to do this to notify the network team of all of the "bad switches" in the United States....

After you have experienced a failed call... bad, dropped, scratchy, or whatever, dial ### and send, this will mark the call you previously had as a bad call and log its location and tower and switch it was using.... after 10-15 of these, I accumulated 15 in one day,... Call VZ tech support and let them know you are having an issue and you "marked" your 10-15 calls you had an issue with and to log a ticket with the network team to resolve the issue...

Havinfun, thanks for the info, my wife and I will be doing this each time we had a bad call, using the ### and send will help I think. We went to Verizon the other day here in Scottsdale, Arizona and they seem to know nothing of it and did not help us out one bit. We are still having these problems calling eachother on our Charges or anyone else here on Verizon in Arizona it seems. I've called family out in Southern California on their Verizon Cell phones and we stayed connected well over an hour with out any issues. I was in my house, where I normally am, and everything was fine, but when I call my wife, we both can be here at home, and we have this issue, after twenty seconds to three minutes, our voice transmission is cut out and we can not hear one another at all in any way and we must end the call and then call one another back and the same issue keeps happening. There seem to be a lot of people here in Arizona with this issue. Verizon...PLEASE HELP!@!

Why is it that this thread is marked as a HOT TOPIC it is highlighted red and has had many views, well over 200 and still..........not ONE VERIZON employee has said ANYTHING or helped at all....have they been told not to talk about this??? What's going on? We deserve to know about what is going on here....this is a major issue that needs to be fixed. We pay way to much for this service, we should be able to call ANYONE without this happening. I understand that a call can drop here an there every once in awhile...but for 2-3 weeks?? Everyday?? Numerous times a day?? NO!

- call your local news and report the issue

the more people call, the issue will make it to the news, verizon will then react to it

they are so big, make so much money, now they don't give a rat's $$$ about their customers. I called yesterday and gave them a feedback, I literly yelled on the phone out of frustration

i am so **bleep** off that I am willing to cancel my contract and get the hell out of this mess of a customer service and go else where, back where I came from t mobile and sprint, at least I am not paying an arm and a leg for such service!

Nashville lady out of curiosity do you have a gel case on your charge? Also...do you have your phone set to 4g lte automatic or set to 3g cdma automatic? My wife and I both have the same problem on our charges and we tried taking off the cases and setting both phones to 3g only. We have only tested this today and so far we haven't had dropped calls or dead air, but the calls have only been mainly four to five minutes and a total of five calls. Everyone else should try this as well, but verizon needs to get this fixed via over the air updates, we shouldn't have to do this.

Called Verizon support today spent 3 hours on the phone with them . first tech had no clue passed me off to a second tech who totally screwed up my phone could get even on the network odd could still email, surf, and text. ended up talking to a third tech who fixed the stuff the 2nd one screwed up.

Talked to the 3rd tech alot they still have no clue, but it is a softwAre issue so exchanging for another Charge or replacing a sim card isn't going to fix. they also aren't allowed to view or post to this blog- legal issues?

what he told me to do is let all of you know if your having the same issue "dropped calls" call isn't actually being dropped just the audio. this is only happening to me when I call another verizon phone. please call tech support so we can get enough people calling so they fix it. when you have a call that "drops audio" call ### and this will mark it as a problem otherwise their computer looks at it as a regular call becouse you are actually staying connected until someone hangs up.

to fix this they need to figure it out and push an update to our phones. dont know when

After having this issue begin just today and having read this forum, I stopped by my local Verizon store for a visit this afternoon. They said that Verizon didn't even have it as a reported "issue" yet but they were sure it would be corrected. I, too, am dropping calls only to Verizon users. They last about 1:30 before the air goes dead. The call timer continues to run but there is no sound.

What I was told this evening was that they (Verizon) has the obligation to provide me service and a properly working network just as I have the responsibility to pay my bill. Wonder if I just cut my bill short each month if they would mind that? ??

I am still in my 14 days but if this doesn't repair itself soon, I will take it back. Just not sure what is better and without bugs like this one. Suggestions?

Anyone have any news on the patch for this?

i reported issues NW of Omaha NE yesterday.

Today driving from Omaha to Des Moines I encountered the same issues with dropped calls to other VZ phone. This is obviously not isolated to any particular area, but it did start just the other day for me, perhaps as early as the end of last week. I typically don't get upset when a periodically drop a call while driving, but this is getting silly.

I also encountered for the first time a complete loss of data that reuired a power cycle to correct. I also carry a VZ Backberry and I was able to get on to the web with EVDO coverage with the BB, so it was not a dead spot. As soon as the Charge powered back on, I had data again. I know others have experiened this, but I had not until today. I have had my Charge since 7/5.

after spending so much time talking with the Verizon tech it didnt sound like they would let him say when this would get fixed. I've enjoyed this phone up till now even with the limited battery life smart phones have, but this was really trying my patience too.

definately call Verizon and get them to write up a "ticket" for the problem otherwise they wont know the extent of the problem.

Doesn't do any good to go to their stores the people in there are just trained monkeys i.e. they can dial a phone but not much else. I stopped tonight just to inform them about what the verizon tech said and the guy looked at me like I was speaking martian.

hopefully we get the patch soon and get updated to gingerbread update

Nashville, I've heard that Verizon is aware of this "issue"..for some reason everyone is being quiet about it though. From what I've heard, it looks like an update fix could be pushed over the air soon...within one to two weeks....I want to hold out and keep this phone, I love the phone, the looks of it, the screen, getting my email, browsing the web on it is nice, but the dropping calls to other VZW cells and dead air are hard to look past, as my wife and I only have cell phones. Also, others having the same issues report that they are only getting about 2-3 Mbps download and 1.5-2 Mbps upload...which I am getting as well. We are supposed to see speeds of 12-17Mbps download or so and 5-7Mbps upload. Verizon is our only source of a phone, we have no land line and we need both phones to be reliable and make calls to land lines, cells and VZW cells, so I hope that Verizon gets ths fixed quick. Your right....I don't think they would be happy at all...if they only got half of our premium this month..or next month! So far taking off our cases and forcing the phone into 3g cdma mode and resetting the phone afterwards has seemed to help, although it is still to early to tell if this completely fixes the issue or not or possibly prolongs the "dead air" or dropped call issues.....as we have not had many long conversations with others on Verizon. We can talk on our phones to others on regular land lines, as we have yet to have any dropped calls or dead air that way, but I guess that is possible too. But, today we took of our cases, and forced the phone into 3g cdma only....reset the phone and we've had some calls to VZW cells and no dead air or drops yet...but the length of the calls were only 4-5 minutes. Anyone else had any luck doing this or anything else?

I just called tech support. She was very polite and told me that she also had a Droid phone ( not a charge) and it was doing the same thing. She told me that it was usually application based when this happened and therefore, talked me thru a reset of my phone. She asked that I use it for a bit and not download any apps for a few hours. Then ad an app one at a time and see how the phone performed. Her theory was that something was interfering with the service and since apps were written by third parties, they didn't always mesh well with the phone/network.

I wonder what apps others have downloaded that could have caused this or does this make any sense at all?

I've only downloaded speedtest and chase mobile, as my wife and I had Fascinates before and they had all sorts of issues missing calls, texts and IM's...so we were told to try taking off apps, so when we got these phones, we decided to only put on a few apps. We have had these issues since we got the phones activated last Monday.

Before i got this new state of the art phone, after the Samsung Fascinate, it took talking to 5-6 Verizon people to finally admit they had a problem. I am so irrate right now with this new phone that I truly believe that if they do not fix this issue everyone with this problem's existing contract should be null and void.

I have told them I am going to do the #### thing and they said they were going to have someone look at my file within 24-48 hours and let me know what the situation is.

I said after that if you have nothing to tell me you can rip up my contract and I am going to AT&T and get an Iphone.

You can only imagine what they said to that!!!

I have been experiencing dropped calls on my Samsung Charge for the past 5 days...it drives me crazy.

I can be in the beginning of a call , middle of a call, or even picking up voice mail and the call will just drop.

We bought three phones for our business in June...worked fine until now.

Did factory re-set today...still no good. Have three replacement phones being shipped out.

Will see if this was a bad phone batch.

Total Phoenix metro area is affected as I work construction and have jobs all over valley.

Throws my ability to do business way off.

Getting replacement phones is not going to help if the new phones are also Samsung Charge. Its a software issue not a hardware issue. Its being coused by someone at either Verizon or Samsung updating something without making sure there were no "bugs" in it before pushing it out. unfortanetly if we're going to keep our Charges we have to wait untill they send out the update that fixes this.

Ok so taking off the cases and forcing our phones into 3g cdma seem to have only prolonged the amount of time before the dead air issue occurs....maybe only a couple minutes more but it is better than nothing, until a fix comes.

Dear paul,

I am curious why you are convinced it is a software issue. Could the problem be just as easily a design or manufacturing flaw with the hardware or the firmware? I could see the antenna being the problem, or the 3G radio that is used for voice transmission. Yes, people say that the screen still shows the call as connected, but that does not exclude the possibility that hardware flaws are part of the problem. What do you think?

The reason I'm more convinced it's a firmware/software issue is that the dropped audio is only accuring when I call other verizon customers. If it was a problem with blocking the attenna/hardware this would occur no matter who I call.my phone only knows I'm calling a number. I've also had my phone scince may and this first started hapening to me about 1.5 weeks ago, so it's most likely something that has been recently changed/updated and wasn't tested completely.unfortunately these things hapen/not to say I'm happy. The computer people here at where I work do it to us all the time.they don't think that if they change one program it may not talk to another and we end up getting **bleep**. It sucks but thats why we have to let them know there is a problem.

Right, what you saying makes a lot of sense. Could also be the network, since it seems like most people who complain of this problem are calling other VZW subscribers when they lose the call.

Don't feel so alone...but definitley dissapointed to see how many are describing the same issue of "silent" dead calls as I have been having with my 2 day old CHARGE phone. grrrr!

The bad news is speaking with tech support moments ago, hoping all the uproar on here has caught someone's attention, it has not and the tech on the phone stated she was not seeing anything in her system stating a "fix" is in the works! O_o

The good news is I could change phones and not get a restocking fee....BUT I didn;t want another phone, I wanted the top of the line and I believed and read the SAMSUNG CHARGE was it!

I really hope VZ addresses this problem soon and has a resolution. Also I did mention to the VZ tech that it does seem to happen only when I call another verizon wireless # (my father, husband, daughter, friend) a landline phone seems fine. Asked her to come here to read posts and I stated it seems to be spreading outside of Arizona. (MD, MA,TN.....) She said to post my situation as they have a team who anaylze these boards......well wake up PEOPLE please throw us a bone and give us a response or better yet a solution!

Thats what I think is happining is that Verizon changed something in their network i.e. there software trying to improve it and it just happened that whatever they did just happened to end up causing problems with the Samsung charge. I have a hard time beleiving that its something wrong with our phones becouse I dont think when you call a phone number that your phone has any way of knowing your calling another number thats a verizon costomer or a land line or another cell provider. however to allow for a "in network" calling their network computers have to have a way to recognize wether its in network or out. I think everytime your phone accesses the network it gives them all the phones info i.e. #, model and other info.

I'm having the same issues. I live in Chandler, AZ but was in Scottsdale this morning and afternoon and this happened about 10 times today. After answering the phone, the call will go silent. Can't hear the other person but the call is still connected. I talked to someone on Metro PCS and it was fine but the Verizon ones keep dropping. Started last week. The problem is very intermittent so its hard to tell when the call is going to drop. Seems like a network issue because it was fine for about the first 2 weeks.

Thank you E_T & other community members for bringing this issue to our attention. In order for me to properly evaluate the issue I would need some more information from you E_T. May I ask what software version are you running on your phone? You can find this info by following the steps below.

Touch Menu tab > touch Settings > touch About Phone

The current software version for the Droid Charge is i510.EE4. Secondly, may I ask is there a pattern to the dropped calls? For example, does it happen only when you are dialing out? Does it happen indoors, outdoors, or both? If you had another Verizon phone prior to the Droid Charge, did you have this issue on another device? I would also need to know the signal strength on the device after the call is dropped. Once I have this information, I can investigate the issue and isolate the root cause of the dropped calls. May I ask you to send me a private message with your mobile number and you full name so I can confirm if it's network related.

As always, I encourage other community members to provide input on this issue for troubleshooting assistance. Although I may not respond to everybody who reply to this message, your concern will be taken into consideration as I escalate this issue.

Thanks everyone...Thought I was crazy. Been a Verizon customer for years. Paying for 3 lines + data plan. NEVER a problem until my Samsung Charge. I am in Detroit, MI. Just started a new biz and I look like an amateur because my calls ALWAYS drop. Can't even access my voicemail from home, let alone use the net. Before I chose the Charge, Verizon told me my area was FINE for 4G. I can't even get 3G. My software version is current. My friend who has ATT was over yesterday and she had access to 3G and 4G and it was fast as lightning. I nearly cried. Never thought I would say this, but I am ready to pay the early term fee and move on. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO VERIZON?

My software is current and hardware is i510.06. It happens only when talking with other verizon cell phones, indoors, as well as outdoors, land lines seem fine. I get dead air then the phone disconnects or the other person hangs up, not sure which.

We aren't asking for a supersonic phone performance, we just are asking for our phones to work, as promised. In return, we will pay our bill, as promised. Sounds like a fair deal to me.

My Droid Charge and my wifes Droid Charge (Model number sch-i510) both have hardware version i510.06, firmware version 2.2.1, baseband version i510.06 v.ee4, sch-i510.ee1 with a kernel version of 2.6.32.9 (se.infra@sei-07 #1) and the build number is sch-i510.ee4. We both have the "dead air" issue it seems only with other Verizon Wireless customers here in Arizona. I have called family in Southern California on their Verizon Wireless cell phones and we have stayed connected for over an hour. This issue of "dead air", which we mainly experience and some times a dropped call here and there will happen inside, outside, day, night, ect. It does not seem to matter. My wife and I can be sitting outside or inside of our house, which we had either full bars or 4 out of 5 bars and i will call her, and we get "dead air" and have to hang up. She will call me back and we will have "dead air". Our calls will only last for 20 seconds to maybe 3 minutes at a time before we experience "dead air". She will call her mom or have her mom call her, who is only 5 minutes down the street from us and is using her Verizon Wireless cell and she has full bars and yet the "dead air" issue still occurs. Our previous phones had no problems at all holding a call or having any kind of "dead air", they made normal calls and the audio quality was very good. We do not seem to have this issue at all when we call regular land lines, or others on cells with other cellular providers in state or out of state (not to say that this couldn't happen, but we have not experienced any "dead air" when calling those people yet). We have forced both of our phones into 3g CDMA only mode now, and it has seemed to prolong the issue of "dead air", but only by about 2-4 minutes or so and then we experience the "dead air" again, when calling one another or other Verizon Cell customers here in Arizona. We've heard that this issue was supposedly taken care of either early yesterday morning or the night before, but we have not made a whole lot of calls today to see if this is taken care of or not. Have you heard anything about this or if a fix will be pushed out over the air? Any news on this would be greatly appreciated. Hope some of this information was useful.

I live in Manchester, TN. I have had my Charge since the first weekend it came out and up until the last few weeks I haven't had an issue. Over the last week or two, I have had numerous calls lose audio within minutes of starting a phone conversation. When I realize that it has been dropped, I look and it appears as though the call is still connected and the call time continues to increase until I or the other person ends the call.

Just in the last two days, this has occurred during calls to 3 other phones (Samsung Continuum, Samsung Gem, LG Revolution) that are on the same account and to 1 phone (Casio Exilim) on someone else's account.

I have also noticed during the same time frame that my signal strength has started bounce around on occasion. I will be sitting where I normally get full 4G coverage and my signal strength will dropped randomly to 3G, 1X, even searching for signal. When it does this it may take as long as half an hour to get back to 3G or 4G. I can reboot my phone and get back to 3G or 4G as soon as it finishes rebooting.

I have a semi-flexible soft cover on my phone that has been on it since the day I got it. These problems have only started occurring in the last few weeks, so I don't think it has anything to do with blocking the antenna. I have not downloaded any new apps that this can be attributed to either.

My Charge is dropping, going to dead air. Tech support rebooted my phone and sent an update to my sim card. Still problems. It is only with Verizon to Verizon calls. Calls to landlines, TMobile. ATT, etc are ok. This is an issue with Verizon only. The calls drop to other handsets,not just Charge. Thunderbolt, Motorola Droid, all other Verizon handsets. It is not a tower issue as some tech support people have suggested. I work in the tower industry and that is not the issue. It is an issue with the Verizon network and the Charge phone.

Arizona location----I add my ditto to many of the forum comments. I have realized 2 things: One---calls are not dropped if I am speaking to someone on a landline but all other calls to any cell phone provider were being dropped. Two---my son and I (both Charge phones) both began experiencing problem about the first week in August. We also could not talk with one another but for a few seconds. I realized that the closer we were the faster they dropped. He left on Thursday for Utah. I talked to him several times yesterday with NO problems! He is not experiencing any difficulties there at all. There is obviously nothing wrong with his phone or sim card and I feel bad for all of you who have turned in your new phones and received refurbished ones for trade. It has got to be an issue with Arizona towers and our (Samsung Charge) connection with them. Looks like there was some kind of update or change at the beginning of the month and that is why we all started having issues at the same time. Hopefully Verizon will admit there is an issue and take care of it quickly.

Wow... I knew I wasn't alone. I just had 6 dropped calls in a row with my wife -- lasting from between 4 seconds and 90 seconds -- we BOTH have Samsung Charge phones and this issue of calls going silent started happening... it ONLY happens when I call my wife, or she calls me. This has been going on for close to TWO WEEKS now... Two weeks ago, my phone went haywire and it was dropping calls / ending calls as soon as I would dial them -- I was trying to make outbound to a landline.

Then this ridiculous crap we are dealing with now. I just got off the phone with a clueless CSR who recommended I wipe my phone (ummm... no thank you -- that's a recommended solution? You have to be crazy.) Then he blamed the hardware -- I told him Samsung didn't update their software, so it must be a Verizon issue.

I have not really noticed dropped or dead calls with anyone else -- then again, most of my calls are to my wife.

VERIZON -- FIX THIS ISSUE PLEASE...

Maybe its time to send some links to the press about this. This has become ridiculous. AT&T,Sprint,Virgin would love to know about this.This was one of Verizons big releases. I think my patience is shortening.Its been a month.

It has been a month for me here in Colorado as well and I agree it is time to take further action on this issue... I have placed several calls into VZ and every time somone is working on my issue and going to return my call.... NOTHING... I need a phone and I am stuck with a broken one... NO FIX, NO RESPONSE, NOTHING.... just waiting... I dont need Gingerbread I need a phone! I will give VZ another 24 hours to contact me then post links on this forum for others to contact the media directly.... We need help from you VZ before we go look for help on our own....

I live in NC and am having the same problem...Verizon says it is Samsung that is the problem...but it's still not fixed!

Frances55, thank you for sharing your concern with your device. I'm showing that since there have been no other posts in several months that this issue has been resolved for many of the other users. Do you only notice this issue in a specific area or with specific people? Does the call drop completely or does it show the call is still connected but losing audio?

Please make sure you have the latest software for your device by going to Settings>About phone>Software Updates. What version (software & baseband) do you have now?

If you haven't already, please remove your SIM card for about 30 seconds, re-insert, then test. If you are still having problems, let me know.

This is certainly an ongoing problem for me. My calls never actually drop, just suddenly the person on the other end can no longer hear me. I can still hear them perfectly fine. The only option is to hang up and redial the person again. It is very frustrating and happens frequently. I travel all over the country and it has happened in many different states/areas. My phone always shows a strong signal whenever this happens. I have the latest software version - firmware version 2.3.6 and baseband version i510.06 V.FP1. I have had this phone for less than one year and I am getting very aggravated with it.

I think many of the other users, like me, just gave up. I have been following the posts hoping the answer would eventually show up. Today, however, I thought I would add my two cents. I have been having the "muted microphone" problem since I got the phone a year ago. I lost an important call last week because of it. I have all of the updates installed, which do not seem to help. I think the glitch occurs when the phone mishandles a momentary reduction in signal or possibly when switching sites.

As a customer service rep, I always assume there are at least 1000 people following a post for every one person posting.
