Verizon to charge customers a $2 fee when paying bill online or over the phone starting January 15th

Doesn't Verizon make enough money from our bills every month? The only way to avoid this new charge is to enroll in auto bill pay, pay by VZW gift card, pay in store, or to pay by check. My question is, are they going to start paying us for the problems with the phones and with the service that we supposedly buy from them?

I am going to start sending them a check every month, back to the non-green movement. I'm thinking of also opting out of the paperless statements, and make them send me a bill every month...

We need to display our disappointment with Verizon with this new fee. This was put in place to make it convenient for customers to pay their bill online, and now they want to charge you for that.....

I have a free bill payment service thru my credit union that I will now use, I use to pay online before it was due, now that will change. They will regret doing this if enough customers start paying them late instead of ahead of time like I did.

I seen this coming because all companies are charging the customer to cover the fees that they pay for the option to offer this service, this isn't really out of the normal but I feel your pain, the nickel and diming does get a bit irritating at times...

I pay online almost all my bills, Verizon is the ONLY company I do business with that charges extra to pay online. I pay all my utilities, loans, insurance and medical bills online, NOBODY charges extra, again NOBODY except Verizon, I hope people will start paying them just late enough not to incur late fees instead of ahead of time. If done properly this will cost them a few million per year.

I was going to start taking my bill into the store and paying them with pennies, nickels, and dimes, making them count out $300+ every month.

First thing everyone ought to do is change back to paper billing. Let Verizon pay for the paper and the stamps to send out bills instead of them sending the bills out electronically. You can still pay your bill with "bill pay" online so it costs you nothing extra. The only one ending up paying more will be Verizon for this stupid attempt to *&$# their customers. Ask Bank of America what happened when people got outraged enough to do something. Verizon.....Can you hear us now???

I have been a long time customer despite the fact that this company is more expensive than any others. But the disrespect shown to your customers by applying this fee, is incomprehensible. When my contract is up, I will be leaving to take my business where I feel more appreciated.

Verizon will be sorry they tried this. Remember what happened to Netflix, they are hurting after changing the way they charged customers thinking they would just roll over and take it.

Well I won't, my contract ends this month and if this stupid idea isn't rescinded, I'm history.

Just heard on the news that Verizon will start charging a $2 fee to pay bills online or by phone. I DO NOT want to pay an extra fee for paying online. You charge enough that I shouldn't have to pay an extra $2. I have already made a post on my facebook page about this and plan on having all of my friends make their feelings about this issue known to you as well. Extremely disappointed with the direction this company is headed and the cheap tactics being employed in these trying financial times.

This fee is plain wrong. Customers sign up for a contract and on top of the regular charges there are a ton of 911, state, and federal taxes charged, and now Verizon wants to charge $2 a month to it's loyal customers for the convenience of paying our bill without using a check and/or visiting a store. Surely it's more cost effective to process the payments electronically than to pay someone to process a truckload of checks every month. I've been a customer for over 10 years and I will NEVER pay $24 a year for the convenience of paying my bill online. I do not like autopay because I don't feel I have control, but yet every month I set up a payment....what is wrong with that? Unfortunately I just renewed a contract on 1 out of the 3 phones we have with Verizon. If this fee happens, the other 2 phones' contracts that expire in the next 6 months will be dropped.

Way to go Verizon....

I agree that the new fee is highway robbery. Verizon can plan on me paying my bill from now on by snail mail... or maybe I will actually go to the store and waste their time.

My husband and I have been with this company for I think going on 8 years now and I have NEVER had a bad thing to say about them, at least until now. This $2 fee is outrageous, they are going to charge us to use the cheaper/faster options of payment for them. Well I will either be sending them a nice slow check in the mail or going to the store and taking up ten minutes of someone's time while they wait for me to fill the check out and hand it to them. I refuse to sign up for auto bill pay, my checks are not always the same every month I have to juggle my money around, with online pill pay I just paid it and they got there money usually a week or so before it is due. I also don't like the idea of a company being able to dip into my checking account. God forbid something go wonky in their billing system and they double charge me or something like that and then I would have to pay the fees from my bank for their mistake. Anyway if I didn't have almost two years left on my contract I would seriously consider going to another provider. I cannot afford the hundreds of dollars in ETF so that isn't happening.

Nice rip off verizon! I was going paperless now I won't be so enviromentally friendly. So I can drive and waste gas and emisions to pay my bill. I have always paid on time, never once late!! And this is how you pay me back! I left bank of america because of fees, I might start looking for at other carriers. At least kiss me before you screw me!

I have four lines on my account and I promise I will cancel everyone of them and move my business elsewhere if VZW goes ahead with this plan. I will pay the early termination fee out of pure spite! You honestly expect me to believe it costs you more to have me pay my bill online than to go stand at your counter and take up employee time? I encourage anyone that stays with VZW to go to the counter and spend at least one full hour paying the over priced bill. Lets see how much that costs them. Lets watch the churn rate go through the roof if they go through with this one!

I plan on going back to a paper bill. They must think we are stupid. The cost of printing and sending a bill, then processing the paper payment will cost them more. When my contract is up, I will definitely switch providers.

I've heard once Verizon turns this fee"on" you have a window of 15 days to cancel your contract with NO TERMINATION fee. You can then turn around and re-enable, get your same number back and get an upgraded device!!

Bad move, Verizon! I will remember this when my contract comes up for renewal - I suspect many others will as well. This is great news for the other carriers - I can see Verizon falling even further in the rankings. Don't you see how people are sick and tired of being abused? Apparently not, but remember, Karma - simply stated, "...what goes around, comes around ..".

This fee is so ridiculous that I joined this community just to express my outrage!

I pay my bill online 10 days before I receive the bill in the mail. This month my company paid me early due to the holiday, I had to wait a week to pay my bill because it was not yet ready. Now they are going to charge me to give them money. I am thinking, what is the rush. I have two lines with Verizon and I pay the max on each line so that I don't get hit with extra fees. I know what my bill is each month. now I get hit with a fee for paying them 10 days before I receive a statement. REALLY!!

So for those of us that pay our bills online, Verizon does not need to employ as many people to handle the payments, but they are going to charge us an extra fee when we are saving them money?????????????? How does that even make sense? Just another big corporation that does not think they make enough money so they are going to try and get more out of us.

Verizon has found a new way to suck money out of their customers. Well I have tried SPRINT and Verizon, on to AT&T with all of my family phones. Thanks for showing how much you care for your customers. You have been nothing but a headache.

Despizon must be under the mistaken impression that they're the only game in town. May this latest act of corporate greed (i.e. the $2 convenience fee) bite them in the arse like NetFlix's did. The first time I pay that $2 fee will be the last. I already have an extreme hatred for Despizon for what they did to my state and it's land lines. The ONLY reason I am a customer is because I had Altel and Despizon bought them out. All I use them for is an air card for PC connection. I will be looking into nTelos after the first of the year. May Despizon Enron itself and burn in hell.

Very Bad move, Verizon! you have already seen Bank of America and what happened when people got outraged. a move like this will be your down fall you will lost more then you gain in this move .. I plan on going back to a paper bill. They must think we are all stupid. They can keep there fees and there service. I sign up for a new contract like everybody else and the service is crap and there charging all kinds of new fees. The $2 dollar fee is just the beginning. I sold the phone and made some money off of it paid there outrageous fee to cancel. Now i got a cheaper android device to use and use WIFI to make calls and send texts and its all free. Only time i don't have service is my commute to and from work. I cant justify paying a cell phone bill just to use it for 30 minutes while I'm driving. When the driving law is passed fully people cant talk anyways so I'm not seeing the downfall to my switch out of Verizon.

They want to charge you two dollars to pay online and three dollars in some of their stores now. This is horse****. I am so glad that my contract is up and I am currently going month to month. I'd like to say that it has been a nice 9 year relationship, verizon, but it really hasn't. I am headed to T-mobile now.

This is a joke. There is no sense in charging $2.00 for paying a bill on time. The only thing Verizon is doing is going to lose customers. There are people who have family memebers out of work and this company is trying to add more stress to people in this situation. If this goes through then they will be losing me and my husband as customers real fast.

I am appalled by this .............they get us to go online - help bankrupt the postal service with online bill paying and online bills and then they want to charge us too? Give it a break Verizon!!!! This continues and trust me I will move to another company which I have been considering already because my monthly bill is outrageous now.........let alone you hate that I am grandfathered in to unlimited wireless broadband......my service is slower lately, I get disconnected a lot and my service goes dormant while I'm trying to navigate online.....................even told me the other day that there were not reported problems when I couldn't access anythingggggggggggggg online even though I was connected and yet the new article said you had problems of all sorts........teaching employees to lie to customers too?

They have got to be kidding! Maybe they think they can get away with this because ATT didn't merge with T-Mobile. This is just as stupid as Bank of America's attempt to charge for debit transactions.

I never log onto these forums but I felt that Verizon needed to hear from EVERY customer who is outraged by their brilliant idea to start charging a $2 fee for paying your bill. I can honestly say that this fee would not even affect me or my business personally, but I am so outraged by the thought of it that I will switch providers at the end of our contract if this fee gets implemented.

$2 convenience fee!!! Did Verizon just hire someone that was fired at Bank of America or Netflix? Talk about stupid marketing. My contract is up on 1/25/12 and I will change providers instead of paying this stupid fee!!!

New on forum so excuse ignorance! Not sure yet how to post, BUT does this also go to automatic payments made by credit cards each month. Where did this come from? Media, Fb. Have not heard directly from Verizon.

It's wrong whatever they are trying to do, but I want to sort out my own payment plan right now. Thanks for help.

Adding additional fees outside of the contract I signed sounds a bit like a unilateral action taken by Verizon. Time to check with the State's Attorney General office to see what remedies us customers have. I spend over $200.00 a month on personal service and am outraged that online bill paying, where Verizon actually saves processing costs (compared to paying in person) is being treated as a way to make additional revenue. Verizon should encourage online bill paying, not make it a revenue center.

For the first time in years I am actually looking at changing my service to another priovider.

Shame on you Verizon. I guess the first thing I'll do is to resume paper monthly statements. Then start paying my monthly bill in person at a Verizon store. All of these cost Verizon additional money, but the short sightedness of Verizon just doesn't see how good they really have it.

VZ: You heap disrespect and approbrium on those who feed your family. The Magi on your staff that thought of this idea, making people pay a penalty if they choose to pay you, needs a re-read of Marketing 101. If you feel you must levy a tax on your customers if they choose certain methods of payment, then you need to remove those methods of payment. If you continue this ill-advised policy, then you are choosing to remove customers from your services. Reconsider soon. I will join the exodus as well.

really? Do you know how much it costs to employ someone over the phone? Do you know how much it costs in bandwidth and server space to take transactions? There's a lot more involved than you honestly believe. Getting everyone on auto bill pay would be a lot cheaper in the long run.

Stop trolling... It's been days when Verizon said they wouldn't do it. If you used your head nothing is often free regardless if you care or not. I have ran a business and I have worked pretty high up where you'd wish you could be. There's a lot of hidden costs you will never see or care to understand and the reason why most business fails. Start your own business before you make claims. It's not always about making your mega millions of customers happy. If they always did everything just for their consumers they'd be quickly out of business themselves. Look at T-Mobile and the reason why they want out here in the states.
