iCal sync to Droid

I have a DROID Charge by Samsung and use iCal as my only calendar. Is there an app that would allow me to sync my iCal with my phone or the very least to view in on my phone?

I have read the articles about syncing to iCal to Google, but I was not successful with the process. It told me I have too much data, plus I want to keep my individual calendars.

What I meant by copy is that once I synced Google with iCal I then had 2 calendars within iCal. Home (Mobile Me) and Google. I did this by exporting my home calendar (Mobile Me) to Google calendar. I then had the same events on both. I have chosen to use Google calendar as my primary calendar. So my new events are stored there. When creating a new event you can choose which calendar to store the event in. If you want it in both though, I believe you have to creat the event twice. I'm not positive about that simply because I decided to use Google since MM is fading away next year.

I also use an iPad2 and I have both calendars synced with it. The iPhone would work the same way. Just set up Google calendar in your setup on the iPhone. You should then be able to see events for however many calendars you have set up. They are color coded, just like on iCal.

I hope this adds some clarity.

I know that you are using iCal, but what service, if any are you using for the purpose of sync? Are you using Mobile Me?

I have the Mac ecosystem at home, which includes the use of iCal exclusively on my iMac / MB. I do have Google set up as one of my calendar clients and it works fine (most of the time). Occasionally it requires me to reenter my password multiple times, which I don't understand. Usually a restart of iCal or the computer will resolve the issue if not resolved within a couple of tries.

I have not run into the "too much data" issue so I am not sure if there is a work around. I do know that when I set it up I had to select Google specifically as the client. I have read other articles that suggested setting Google up as an Exchange server, but I did not try that. Perhaps that would solve the issue of data size.

I am also using Mobile Me calendar, but I didn't try to sync it to the calendar on the Charge. I copied the events to Google and synced that way.

I sure hope you get it working because it functions very well. Calendar items are pushed very quickly, both from iCal to the Charge and vice versa.

Perhaps Joe meant that he was able to sync his iCal with his Google calendar. Since the Google calendar associated with the Google account you have to have on the phone syncs automatically to the phone, then anything you put in iCal would end up on the phone and vice versa, through the links with Google Calendar. He'll have to tell you though, since as I said I am not a Mac user.

If you CAN'T sync iCal with Google Calendar, you can import events, but this is a manual operation and would really not serve your purposes.

Further to my last post, here are instructions for syncing iCal with your Google Calendar, taken from the Google Support site. It apparently is done from the iCal side:

Enable Google Calendar in Apple's iCal

Apple iCal 3.x and up (on Mac OS X v10.5+) support CalDAV sync.

To set up CalDAV support for Google Calendar in Apple's iCal, follow these steps:

Open Apple iCal, go to Preferences and then the Accountstab.
Click on the +button to add an account.
In the box that pops up, enter a description for the account and your Google Account username and password.
Under Server Options, add the following URL:

https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/YOUREMAIL@DOMAIN.COM/user

Replace 'YOUREMAIL@DOMAIN.COM' with the email address that you use to log in to Calendar. Make sure to include the '@domain.com' portion (which is @gmail.com for Gmail users) in this section.
DO NOT substitute your username for 'user' at the end of the URL.
Leave the Use Kerberos v5 for authenticationoption unchecked.
Click Add.
Under the Delegation tab, select the calendars you'd like to add to iCal by checking the boxes next to them. You may need to hit refreshto get the latest list of calendars.
Add your email address to your Address Book card by selecting Add Email. You'll be prompted to add your email address only if your address is not already in your Address Book.

You won't be able to invite or email guests to Google Calendar events within iCal if your address is not in your Address Book.

Your Google Calendar will now appear in iCal's list of calendars, and changes you make to your Google Calendar in iCal will be reflected when you sign in to Google Calendar.

Event information will automatically refresh every five minutes. You can change this interval by opening the iCal > Preferences > Accounts menu and selecting a new refresh interval under the 'Refresh calendars' drop-down. Keep in mind you can also force a refresh by selecting a calendar and pressing the Apple and R keys at the same time.

Calendars that are checked but disabled have already been added to iCal - you can remove them from within iCal.

Mark/Space Missing Sync for Android works great to sync iCal with the Charge - plus it'll sync everything else with your Mac. You use their Fliq Calendar app on the phone.
