Droid Incredible 2 Not Charging.

Hi,

I'm having issues with my droid incredible 2 not charging and now won't turn on. I noticed that my charging port seems to be loose and I think that might be the problem. Has anyone else had this issue and what did you do to fix it (if possible)?

Edit: I have it plugged in and the light is blinking orange but it won't turn on....

I can understand your frustrations and would be happy to assist you!

It appears that either an application or something on the device memory is causing the battery to drain faster than normal. I would like to suggest trying one last troubleshooting step to resolve this issue. You can perform a hard reset of the device, just ensure your data is backed up prior to the reset. Once your device is set up, please charge for a few hours and test the battery life.

First all, give it a little bit more time to charge. :smileyhappy:

If it still doesn't work, make sure the charger is not bad. The phone can be charged either using the wall charger or by plugging the USB cable into your computer. So first test both charging methods. If neither works, I say take your phone to a Verizon store and ask them to charge it using their charger. If they can charge it then likely your charger or USB cable might be bad. If they can't charge either then something is wrong with the phone or the battery.

Now about the loose charge port, one likely cause is the black frame around the port that is making noise. I know that because I had the same problem and I took my phone to the store and asked them to show me another brand new phone and it had exactly the same problem. If you open the back cover you can see why. This problem shouldn't affect anything other than being annoying.

Edit: Didn't see your edit about light blinking when I wrote my reply. Could it be battery overheating? Or could it be bacause your phone is turned off while it's being charged. I have seen in other forums that people were saying it blinks if the phone is turned off or the battery is nearly dead.

My phone won't turn on and it's been sitting connected to the charger.... I will try to take it in tomorrow and see if they can get it to charge. I have taken out the battery and put it back in as others who seem to have the same problem have done and got it to work that way but unfortunately for me - it didnt work. :[

I had it plugged into the computer while I was typing this and left it plugged in while I went and did other things. Just got back now and it's not blinking anymore and it still won't turn on... Something is definitely amiss here.

I am having the EXACT same problem with my Incredible 2! I've been having the issue for about 3-4 weeks now and it just keeps getting worse. I didn't have time until Saturday to visit Verizon to figure out what's going on with the thing, but what they told me is that they needed to send me a new phone. In the meantime, I've started experiencing the blinking orange light as well. The phone won't turn on. I'm not supposed to receive the replacement phone until the end of the week and REALLY need a fix in the meantime. I have no clue what to do. Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this thing turn on and charge? I've left it hooked up to the charger for the past 6 hours and it hasn't charged at all. I REALLY need a working phone.

Twice I've woken to an uncharged phone, but it was because the charger on the wall outlet end slid upward out of the global adapter and wasn't making contact. Pushing it back down tightly fixed the problem.

I am also having this problem since the forced update - I either get a painfully slow charge that does not stay above the power consumption when phone is on or no charge at all. This week I have once gotten it to charrge normally.

After posting, I had gotten it back to life after a night of charging.

It would charge painfully slow. But it seemed that one it dropped below 50% battery life it would not charge at all when turned on.

I turned it off before going to bed and plugged in.

This morning, it bricked. It won't even recognise that it is plugged in. At all.

And come to think of it, this did not happen unti after the forced update either. I had never let the charge get below 50% before then.

So, now I have a brick. To the Verizon store with me.

Follow up - After the helpful gentleman at my local verizon store (who sold me the phone about 4 months ago) tried swapping out batteries, it turned on.

But being under 50%, the thing would not charge. With the extended battery in, it maintained the same charge while plugged in, on or off... And we sat there a while.

Puting a new regular battery in, plugged in and on, we waited for it to charge up. It actually DRAINED while on. This is after killing all apps too. (Which for SOME reason, after the last update, turn back on again right after killing them...)

A replacement is backordered. So I am now without phone for a week. I am hoping leaving it off and charging now that it has a "new" battery in it will do something, but after last night's off and drained completely to brick status, I am dubious.

If you are having this problem with slow charge when off, slow to no charge when plugged in, please speak up and post.

If you think a problem might be related to software update, you should let HTC know directly too. Just go to HTC's website and email them. I have no confidence in either Verizon or HTC but if they get enough complaints about a problem maybe they will look into it. These days so many cell phones are coming into the market that most of them are outdated in less than two years. It's my suspicion that manufacturers are trying to ignore problems long enough so that people will throw away their otherwise a good phone and upgrade to a new one. Just look at that alarm clock problem, it has been two months and HTC still hasn't fixed the problem.

i just had that problem if you have insurance on your phone take it to a verizon wireless store they will order you a new overnight free of charge

One of my inc 2s will not charge am waiting on the replacement which is sopposed be here today this is probally the biggest flaw in the dinc 2 the charging port is not very well connected to the board

Had same problem with my first Droid incredibly two. Now on my second one, and its having same problem. The first one had to hold the charging cord a certain way, an then eventually had to cut it off to get fully charged. Then it stopped charging at all. Got new one and its starting all over. I think this is an issue with the phones. A manf defect. Which, as a $500 phone, they need to fix. I'm hoping it gets better, not worse. Or ill be getting another new one. It's ridiculous.

My phone is not charging but I know it has something to do with the connection of the cord into the phone. I too have to hold the cord a very specific way to get the red charging light to come on. Sometimes it can be sitting perfectly still and still go from charging to not charging.I have a car charger for this phone as well and it does the same thing on that one, so it is the phone not my charger. It is steadily getting worse. It seems like the whole where you plug into the phone is getting warped or stripped more and more from constantly having to reposition the cord while it is charging. And now my cord is getting frayed and wires are showing on the end and I have only had this phone about 2 months. Again it is caused by the constant twisting and turning to pick up a charge. I dont want to go get a new one and eventually have the same promble. Just got used to this phone now and it looks like from all the posts there is definitely a problem with it.

I'm on my third DINC 2 and this is starting to get ridiculous. Just last night, I was having issues with charging and I woke up this morning to a dead phone that won't turn on anymore. It looks like I'm going to need a 4th one since May!! This is a huge problem for me since I absolutely NEED my phone and am unable to get a replacement because I'm in Spain until December. Does anyone know if there is a way to charge the battery outside the phone? For example, most digital cameras require you to remove the battery and charge it on a separate charger. Is there anything like that for the incredible 2?

Mine has this problem if I move the cord around a little it will charge Verizon is sending me new phone.

Why does it seem like EVERYONE who has this phone has the same freaking problem.

Me for example: The other day, I woke up to a not fully charged phone. Then the next day, it decides to charge slow. Then last night, it was charging fine, but then once it got Red, I tried charging and the charger just would not read. Now it's basically a paper weight as it has died and wont revive. If i press the on button, It will blink orange for a bit, but then, die. I'm SOO annoyed. I find that Even if i go to the Verizon Store and complain til they give me a new one, the problem will remain. Should I ask them to get me a better phone? I really love this phone, but the problems are just ridiculous!!!!

Simple answer to your question...

This is a user forum... Most of the time people who don't have problems or certain problems don't bother them they won't come here and express it. If people have problems then they'll always often here and voice them.

It's similar to complaints vs. gratitude throughout life. You will always find people willing to complain, but often not many will give gratitude. This is just an example that you can always find in life and it's a similar situation you see here. It is nor directed at you.

I started having the same problem with my Incredible 2 last night, woke up with a dead phone and have been unable to get it to charge on any of the 4 chargers in my possession. I called customer service and was told the flashing orange light isn't supposed to be flashing and transferred me to tech support. After about 10 min total on the phone I have a new phone on it's way. I am hoping that the new one won't have this problem but I know if it does I don't have to go into the store :smileyhappy:

So i have had the same problem for about 2 weeks now. Verizon said its a bad charging port because it has come loose from the mother chip board. And of course they will not replace my phone...Dumb verizon, thats what ya get when you sign up for something tho, crappy service and crappy phones, i have only had my phone for 4 months.

Hope Verizon can get it together because i have not been satisfied with their services.

Same problem. Only have had this phone since June or July. I did the hard reset...no fix. I tried switching out the battery...no fix. When I switched the battery, it showed the full charge and worked fine but wouid not re-charge. Now what? Will a charging mat take care of this issue so I don't have to wait for a new phone? Do I take it to the verizon store? This is my house and work phone so this is a fairly critical issue for me.

Edit: Yes..I tried switching chargers, too. My daughter has a dinc 2 as well. Hers is charging perfectly fine with both chargers. Mine is a very expensive brick.

My Incredible 2 started doing the same thing a couple of weeks ago. Spotty charging, intermittent draining, and no PC connectivity. The port was clearly wiggling around in there too. I've had the phone for five months. I did not have the optional equipment coverage, but phone was still under manufacturer warranty. I went ahead and took it into an actual Verizon store (not an authorized retailer). Experience has me firmly believing that the authorized retailers are only concerned about sales, not customer service. If you can get to a real Verizon store, do it. I walked in, the guy plugged in the phone, nodded, popped the back off to look for water damage or any other obvious sign that I had jacked it up (which I hadn't), and then proceeded to order me a new one. He sheepishly told me it would take up to five business days to recieve (it would have been quicker if I had the coverage plan), but since my phone still worked, more or less, I was okay with that. So basically my advice it to go to the source and if you're still under warranty they'll probably take care of you. Too bad about the phone's obvious defect though because it's really nice otherwise.

This seems to be an on-going issue with this phone and VZW knows about it..... I was worried I would have to take 2 hours out of my day to head to the store but was able to get it replaced over the phone after speaking with tech support. They are overnighting me a "new" phone and will honor the remaining 8 mos of the 1 year manufacturers warranty.... Don't waste your time trying to get this to work on your own. As the tech guy said to me "your phone is officially dead".

Thank you everyone for sharing your concerns with your device. This issue has been escalated to our product team and HTC is working to make the port more steady. As long as the device has no physical or liquid damage, this issue should be covered under warranty. If you were previously denied, I suggest contacting technical support again or visiting a corporate store.

Another thing I recommend, which someone else also pointed out, is to minimize usage while the phone is plugged into the charger. If you are talking on the phone, texting, browsing, etc while plugged into the charger, it can cause the charger to pull at the charger port and become loose over time. If you must make calls while charging, I recommend using a Bluetooth headset or speakerphone.

I am having the same issue with my phone, and I am not happy about it! For I have only had it for 2 months! My question is to everyone who is getting a replacement phone, is the phone you are getting like new, but not BRAND new???? I am highly upset that my phone shot the crap after two months and what I am even more upset about it getting a like new phone that has been sent back and replaced parts and now being sent out again...SO, tell me has anyone had any luck with a like new phone??

If the issue has been escalated to the product team, one would think the technicians handling the complaints would also be informed of this issue. After 3 visits to the verizon store , a replacement phone (port shorted out), a replacement battery (battery was fried), and 2 very long phone calls talking to multiple technical support reps within the last 4 days, I am exremely frustrated that I had to spend this much time working with Verizon to fix the issue. Additionally, I have purchased, 3 car chargers, 2 wall chargers, and a new extended life battery since April in an attempt to resolve the problem.

I bought my Droid Incredible 2 in April (my first smart phone). Against the advice of my colleagues who went with the IPhone, I took the advice of multiple verizon sales reps who all highly recommended the Droid (my guess being they did not have the Incredible 2 since it was new at the time I made my purchase). From day one I found it did not charge well in the car. Little by little charging the battery became intermittent and unrealiable. Since I use my phone for business and I spend hours on conference calls (often in my car), the issue of unreliable charging of the battery without perfectly positioning it on the car seat or holding the cord in the port became not only a nuisance and detriment to my job, but also a hazard to my driving (distracting me from the road).

I must say that unfortunately the suggestion to not use your phone while you charge it is not practical and is an unacceptable solution. Even if I do not touch the phone, it does not charge if it moves ever so slightly that is if I am luck to get the orange light to come on at all.. The light often does not even blink until I find the perfect position which can be problematic when driving. The issue also applies when using the wall charger however it is easier to stabilize when sitting on a flat surface.

I will let you know how I make out with my 3rd Incredibly frustrating Incredible 2 Droid. Let's hope three's a charm!

I was also talked out of buying the IPhone back in June, and am greatly regretting it now. The first couple months when i had the phone it worked fine, and really had no complaints about it. Now my phone is never charged and when i have some battery life, it dies so quickly. Often times when my phone is on the charger, it will go down in charge or be at 0%, how does this even happen? Also, when I went to Verizon about this problem, the workers' solution was to factory reset my phone; completely irrelevant to the problem. I still have yet to get this problem fixed, what should I do!?

If you can't get to a Verizon store anytime soon, look into getting a battery charger. It charged the battery by itself outside of the phone. That way you won't have to deal with the port damage.

I also encountered the charging problem and thought my case was hopeless because I had somehow managed to lose my insurance after Assuming Liability earlier this summer, even though I had made sure to get insurance when I originally got the phone. Thankfully the guys at my Verizon store were able to get me a replacement phone anyway, and have assured me that I will be able to get the insurance coverage fro Asurion back.

Since I had already ordered the battery charger before I went into the store, I have no idea if I will get the phone first or the charger. If I get the charger first, I'll see if that remedies the problem until I can get the replacement. If I get the replacement first, then I just have a back up battery charger. If the problem persists, I hope the price on the Incredible 2 goes down. $500+ is too much for a phone I only paid $150 for. Its too much for any phone really

Now mine too. Got it at Best Buy so I had the 30 days to exhange it if I hated the phone, new to VZ and after they screwed up our plan (VZ did, not BB), now this. Today is day 31 so I'm **bleep**. I want to take it in and get a different phone all together after reading this.

31 days and I have a brick. This is my only phone and at the momement I"m not even allowed to drive due to seizures so great, can't even call/text now for help.

There is something wrong with the phone it self. There are alot of people having the same issue with the phone suddenly not charging anymore. One day it worked, the next it stopped. I have 3 to 4 different chargers, same result. Verizon installed a new battery and it worked fine for about 5 hours, then it did the same thing, stopped charging. Has there been any new updates to the phone? Well it doesnt matter I have a dead phone and will be getting my new one on Monday.

Had same issue with DINC2..phone would appear to be charging (orange light on, lightning bold icon on but the batt level line was not increasing, just staying in one spot) and phone was actually not charging. Brought phoen to VZW store swapped battery and problem went away. Then the next day it did the same thing again. I did a hard reset and got yet another battery thinking that there was something on the phone what was preventing the batteries from charging. After hard reset and 2 new batteries it still happens from time to time. This will sound crazy but if I don't use the factory included charger, the phone doesn't want to charge. Just last night i hooked up the phone to a motorola charger from more original droid and the battery level was decreasing instead of increasing. I plugged my OEM HTC charger in this morning and it is charging just fine. My battery connection is a little loose but why would it work with 1 charger and not another? So my advice is to use the original OEM charger and see if that changes anything, b/c it seems to be an issue with me

I am having the same issues, Blinking light, not holding a charge, and now not even charging at all on 3 separate chargers.

I'm disaponted to know this is happening to alot more people, I have had my phone for just about a month and this is already starting. I used the only upgrade on my familys contract to get this phone since before it I had the Orginal Droid INC and was having similiar issue plus some other stuff. I was very hessitant to get this phone but I was assured that it was one of the hightest rated phones right now and guess I was just naive and plain talked into it. I spent the last year and half arguing with verizon over my last phone and just recieved the advice to "put in an insurance claim , upgrade or reset" After I kept recieving sub-par replacmentent devices and resets that did nothing I finally upgraded. Apparently that was a big mistake. I think this will be last run with verizon wireless as it seems if I am given a faulty device I simply have to wait to be able to upgrade just to recieve another =( Hopefully my trip to the verizon store in the morning will help. Although I am NOT optimistic,

I to am having the same issue and waiting for my third phone to come in. I purchased my original Droid Incrd. 2 back in February 2011 and with in 2-3 mths it wouldn't charge, so I took it to the Verizon store and was told it was my battery. Got the replacement battery and it lasted one week. Back to the store and ultimately was told it was defective and shipped a refurbished like new phone, now 3 mths later the second phone is doing the same thing. Back to verizon and they took my phone in back and told me they put it on 3 different chargers and it would charge. So they gave me a replacement charger and was sent on my way. Got home and put the phone on the new charger and surprise it won't charge. Called the store right of way and totally freaked on them, that there was no way it could have charged on 3 different chargers, but wouldn't charge on a brand new out of the box charger that they completely lied to me to get me out of the store and from causing a scene. Now, to this day no one has offered me a new phone under the manufacturers warranty, again not surprised. I called in the customer service to get the replacement phone yet again, I was told I could not get a the phone for 4-5 days due to the holiday, so called back at the store and apparently they could have it shipped today for delivery tomorrow. We will see, I'm not trusting a thing they say. I need my phone like everyone else for various reasons, I work in a Police Department and my son has epilepsy. I used my phone for emergency contract regarding my sons health while he is at school and out with friends. Now that I don't have a working phone, if he has a seizure I won't get the call to go to him and god forbid he doesn't make it out of it. Verizon will certainly be hearing from me and not in the way they want.

Had to replace my phone because my original was going to car mode for no reason, volume wasn't working right, and it was going to some screen saver all on it's own. I set up the replacement "new" phone, used it for a few minutes, plugged it in to fully charge it and it shut off. I've been charging it all night, and now it won't turn on. Taking it back to the verizon store today. So frustrating!

This is the 3rd android HTC incredible 2 I have had to replace since November 2011. I just received my newest refurbished phone TODAY and the same thing is happening, it is saying that it is plugged in, but it is not charging the battery at all. This is really frustrating.

I wish they would, I smashed the one I just had, that is the most POS phone I ever had, sorry. Wouldn't charge for me at all then went dead, the memory card would not work in my PC afterwards, and all the videos that were created on the incredible 2 are not recognized by any program in the world. All I could do was get audio. What a sorry piece of junk. GO for anything else but HTC booo

I have had my INC2 since May and was having no problems. I woke up last week and the week before to no charge during the night (I figured I hadn't plugged it in correctly). Then Thursday night the phone would not charge, if I was connected to my charger it would show that it was on the charger but would not charge. I was in the hospital with my sister so I couldn't do anythign about it. I was still there on Friday and the same thing. I went home Friday night and it started charging overnight. Then yesterday it started to do the same thing. It did finally charge after being on the charger all day. I hooked it up last night just to be safe and it died during the night. Now when I plug it in the orange light blinks ever once in a while but it will not charge and will not turn on. I am headed to Verizon tonight. :smileysad:

I'll throw in my two cents. Same experience with my phone and my wife's phone. It started with her phone. It stopped charging. We took it to the Verizon store (it was actually a contract vendor, not a corporate store) and they tried doing a hard reset. That only resulting in her losing all her data... but still wouldn't charge. Then they took the battery out, and replaced it... still won't charge. Finally, after the Verizon clerk was on the phone with tech support, they agreed to handle it as a warranty issue and sent her a new phone. (That was a whole separate fiasco, since they sent her refurbed phone to the wrong address...) Now her phone charges. Now, as of today, mine stopped charging. I could get it to charge if I wiggle the cable connector a little, but it's tricky.

Now, I'm no rocket scientist, but it would APPEAR as though there is a design flaw on the charging port. I lost count on this board how many people have reported the same problem. (not to mention all the other forums I've found this problem on.... do a google search on "droid won't charge" and see the problem) Attention Verizon people... I think we have a problem.

I am just another in the long list. Has anyone found any satisfaction? Is there a Verizon rep watching this post who can make a recommendation that this phone be recalled? I have been with Verizon ten years now. If I don't get a new phone, I will be disconnecting and see about getting their money on the cancellation fee. I will fight tooth and nail. I have a child with epilepsy and bad asthma. I cannot be without a phone. I went and bought a pay as you go phone until this is rectified. Ridiculous I had to do this.

Just got off the phone with Verizon. Since I have only had this phone about 6 months, they were able to take it back under factory warranty. They will, however, be sending me the same type of phone. I am hoping that I can get at least a year out of this one. I loved the phone until this happened, so I will be happy unless the same thing happens again. If I were any of you having the issue, call tech support ...don't waste your time at a local store, they are mostly just order takers and cannot deal with problems....call the 800# and if you don't get a replacement, go to the next level of manager, and so on.

I have the same problem as well as a few of my other friends who have the same phone.. I took it into Verizon yesterday and they confirmed that the port had come off the motherboard? They told me I have to be real careful becuse they may think i abused the phone. I looked at them like, really? Funny how they always want to blame you when in fact its cheap engineering. Fortunate they wil be replacing it.

I went to Verizon last week and they sent me another one. Unfortunately its refurbished so I hope it lasts. It seems that there is a huge defect with the phone. The rep at Verizon told me the port was loose. I also bought a second battery since they had to send me a new phone and it wasn't coming till the next day. I found a very inexpensive battery charger online and ordered it incase I have the same problem again.

I am having the same issue.

My Droid Incredible 2 wont charge unless I mess with the charger and put it in certain positions which is getting harder and harder to do.

I have had this phone for 7 months so vz customer service said there is nothing they can do about it.

I am thinking of cancelling the line and go with another carrier since I have no other option.

Any advice?

They sent the new phone and then I had to return the old one.

I went to the store today and they said the warranty is valid for a year since the purchase date.

They will send me a new one tomorrow and I have to return the old one. I can keep the memory card though.

i emailed customer service and they told me the same thing, as long as there is no physical or water damage..which there isnt. Im soo glad!! Hopefully it doesnt happen with the new one!!

Had same problem not charging. Under warranty so they sent me a "like new" (reconditioned) phone. Got it yesterday. The reconditioned phone charges but it has a different problem - the power button. It doesn't work without pressing and wiggling it numerous times. Went back to the store. They're sending me another "like new" (reconditioned) phone. I'll let you know what's wrong with the next one when it arrives :smileysad:

UPDATE:

Received my phone yesterday. Activation and setup was once again easy. Everything is working. Customer service has been great and overnight shipping of the replacement phones have arrived on time.

yeah im on my second incredible 2 and the first one had the same issue...starts where it slowly charges...then you gotta hold the charger slightly at an angle to charge it..then it stops working all together. verizon doesnt seem to really care about there customers a lot

I am on my third incredible 2 in less than 8 months because the charging port has broken. They told me since my warranty will be up soon I should buy insurance or I can spend an additional $300 to get an early upgrade. My upgrade is also suppose to be in January but somehow it got moved to next November- they also told me to call customer service because they cannot fix that in the store. I also stood in the store for two hours and watched my the guy google how to set up my gmail account. Four hours later and now I am resetting my phone again. They also tried to charge me $600 last time I got a new phone saying I did not send the broken one in- even though I did. I thought Verizon had great customer service but I think they could not have done any less to help me. I pay over $90 a month for your service which I cannot even use because my phone is always broken. ATT??

I had a problem with charging as well. I took it in and the replacement arrived the next day. It took me a few days to go through my texts to send the photos to myself so I wouldn't loose them so I go to activate the new phone last night and that didn't work right. I am hunting and hunting to try and figure out how to get it to activate but can't seem to find anything. I just don't get how so many companies are making things about making customers do so much for themselves yet still charge us for every little thing.

why is the problem always the apps we are running and not the phone itself I'm going on my THIRD phone now! The second one only lasted a month before it wouldn't charge, VZW needs to push back on HTC and find out what the problem is, or is this just another way to milk more money out of people???

I too have the Incredible 2 charging problems...after reading much on the interwebs and this forum, it is obvious that the Incredible 2 has a charging port defect. I haven't had a chance to a Verizon store yet to get it resolved.

I called Verizon and they are sending me a new Incredible 2...hope this one is OK.

Did you ever get a solution. I'm having the same issue after owning the phone for six months. Orange light comes on on any charger and appears to be charging (lightning bolt on phone appears), but the battery never shows that it's fully charged--usually just at 60%, no matter how long it stays on and no matter what charger.
