Droid XT912 and Ford SYNC Text Problem

I have a 2011 Ford Edge with Sync and the works. The phone seems to work well with everything BUT texting. Specifically I can send a text from the car but when I receive a text it goes only to the phone and not to the text capability in the car where it should read the text in voice. I've gone to Ford and they cannot determine any problem on their end and are thinking it is a phone issue and likely a setting on the phone. Any help would be appreciated. This has both Ford Dealer and the local Verizon folks vexed as well as me!
