Hello
I just got the phone new out of box at beginning of month, Battery was fully drainded today, when I plugged the usb to charge phone a bright white light shines on front screen. Is the phone toast? or is this normal?
Thank you for any help.
Hi, This is actually normal when the phone is completely drained and does not have enough power to be turned on. In this situation the white light will be on to let you know it's charging and will only stay lit until the battery is charged enough to allow the device to power on. The white light will NOT light up whenever the device is plugged and it does have enough power to be turned on. This works the same on the Motorola XYBoars Tablet.
Hope this helps!
usb charging is worthless, use the wall charger.
if wall charger does not work..hold the power button and volume down at the same time for 10-20secs..should get rid of the light and can charge
I agree with Bear 1000%: Wall charger / Car Charger Motorola O.E.M. & Nutten else b33
Thank you!!! I had just gotten a replacement (got mine wet) and the battery died and the white light came on. I was trying to charge in my car using USB cord. I went to the store thinking it was toast but the guy plugged in a wall charger and it immediately came on. Well just this morning it died and I charge from my computer. Again the white light of death and I could do nothing. I thought I would see if I could find help on-line.
It worked!! Thanks again. The Verizon people need to know this tidbit!!
you've been told usb isn't a good way to charge the batt & yet after seeing things work/charge with a wall charger, you go back to a usb attempt at charging from the computer/usb & end up with the same problem with the white light.
verizon people know usb charging is worthless, you seem to be the only one who thinks it really works as efficiently as the wall charger.
I do not think I said a single word about effectiveness of the USB. My
reply was to the specific direction of getting the USB cord to begin
charging once the battery light has turned white by pressing the power &
volume buttons simultaneously. That worked. When I'm home, I charge via
wall but at work & on the go I use the USB. It fully charges my phone so I
am unaware of the big to do about it. Thank you and have a great day. I do
not require any further unsolicited messages from whoever you are.
usb charging should work ok if the computer is set up to supply enough power to the usb port you're using. A lot of laptops will shut off the power to usb ports by default. My desktop will charge the phone just fine.
Yes it May Work But the Charger that Comes with the Phone Regulates the Current that Goes into it. That is What it is Was Designed For. That is Why it came with it in the Box.. Wrote by b33
You don't need to be condescending. I do not traditionally use usb to charge but if it is my only option I do. Please do not be rude. People are here for help, not judgment.
Thanks
The charger that came with it IS a usb charger. It plugs into an adapter for a traditional plug in.
K. Yup it's the one they include in the Box. I suppose i have used it once but i hate the Stiff Cord So i Charge My Maxx's with these Chargers Here.. They have a Longer and more Flexible Cord to them Make charging a whole allot better. On android central they sell the First one that i have showing for about $30.00 S&H the Second one is $14.95 Plus S&H Third one i have Pictured i got it at Verizon for.$30.00 but as mentioned the Longer and more flexible has came in Nicely.:smileyhappy: b33
I got it started.I used my car usb and left it plugged in for 4 hours. It started up. I got it charged to 30 percent on my way to the Verizon store. The employees there knew less about the phone than I did . :smileysad: The guy asked my permission to factory reset it after he couldn't solve the battery problem. I said there isn't enough charge on the battery to do that. He said it would work no matter the charge. Yeah, the phone didn't turn back on. So Verizon sent me a different phone. On the Motorola web site, there is a link for bad batteries in the Razr. I suggest people look into it.
I used the method of holding the power button and the volume down button simultaneously and it worked! Thank you so much for helping!!
Chrissy the method is called a Soft Reset and it can help a Bunch when the phone is un-responsive.. :smileyhappy: b33
Did you ever find a solution to this problem? It is very annoying. My phone will at least hold it's charge via the computer, but using that same cable, and plugging it into the USB port in my car won't charge it, or hold a charge. Oddly enough though, I'm able to play music from the phone on that same USB cable (in the car).
I don't care about the effectiveness of this or that, and I wouldn't be posting if I just wanted to use the car or wall chargers that came with the phone, so please don't waste mine or other readers time with obvious work-arounds. If anyone has found a solution to this problem, please let me know. Btw, I was never able to turn my phone back on, even though the white light stayed on for about two hours. It would never start up.
I found a solution for my razr maxx after trying every single thing suggested except opening the phone. I had this problem after a cold night and too much time away from a power source. After it died, i was able to charge the phone to 50% before i had to use it. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find power and the phone ended up being used until the battery was drained. The white light of death followed, i tried the stock phone charger for 4 hours with no effect. I tried the power + volume suggested here, I tried the steps suggested by Motorola https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/77306/p/30#not_powerup . Nothing seemed to work. Then I pulled out my Iphone charger box ( 1A vs the razr maxx 750mA ) and plugged tbe stock cable into it. I let it sit for an hour to almost no effect. The white light was not so solid. Then I switched back to the stock , the white light was solid for mucb longer. After reconnecting to the Ipod charger and leaving overnight, then fiddling with the microSD (read the section on motorola site) and then putting it back on the stock charger the next day, i got it to consistently show the droid logo and then blink the 0% screen before turning off. It took about 1 hr of charging to get it to that only once. After another hr on the stock charger, it is now back to the charge screen charging up past 10%!!!!! Hopefully problem is solved, I'll update later.
PS I googled a bunch about LiPo batteries and cold, and read the manual for the razr maxx. Turns out the chilly weather did not exceed the recommended tolerances, but like many batteries, temperature has an effect on them and LiPo don't like to be discharged completely (as outlined by nearly every poster in these types of razr maxx threads)
Charge up 15% when i hit the volume button to check, looks like its back! I'll be doing that "battery retraining" procedure for sure just to make sure. BTW it took 12.5 hrs on the ipod charger (that had more milliAmps) before i put it on the stock charger and fiddled with the Sim + micro SD. Looks like I'm NOT going to the verizon store for a new phone! Ive had this one since October and babied it until this incident
Thank you so much. This worked great.
The reason that connecting to the computer usb doesn't work when the battery is that drained is because the phone needs a full 5V in order to begin charging. A computer usb port will not provide the full 5V needed to power up the device to begin charging. That's why its best to use the wall outlet or some other source.
