Sure, ask for the phone. If they refuse or delete the messages, take the phone away. Problem corrected.
Aside for that, nope there is not a way to do so
if they have a smart phone download sms backup to automatically send them to your gmail account then all messages numbers and times will go to your email. my problem is my kid dont have a smartphone
