email alerts with Earthlink POP or GoDaddy hosted accounts?

I have recently signed up with Mobile Email (the $5 / month add on to the old voice plans)

I have configured 2 "other" pop3 email accounts, an Earthlink account and an account hosted by GoDaddy.com. I can receive and send email through both accounts with the phone.

However, I have checked "Email Alerts" in the settings for each account, but I do not receive any alerts for new messages.

Is this a limitation of my pop3 email servers, or is it a Verizon problem?

Has anyone successfully received alerts from one of these email services?

Hello,

Go daddy has a feature on there pop 3 serivers that you have to call them to activate. (least I did) Love godaddy :smileyhappy:

Regarding earthlink, here's my experience:

I have two earthlink accounts that I've linked to mobile email on my enV3. It is very hit-and-miss with both accounts, but mostly miss. Every once in a while, I'll get a notification -- but most times, I don't.

I read someplace that notifications can sometimes take a LONG time -- like, hours. So I'm thinking that maybe I'll leave my phone on overnight and see what happens. But if it takes that long, then the notification feature doesn't seem very useful.

Anyone else have any tips on how to get notification to be more reliable for earthlink accounts?

My suggestion is to download Vemail by voicegenesis. Their alert system is amazing. Every time, never miss, I get alerts within a minute or two of receving a new email. I have had the same problem with email alerts with Mobile Email, and made several calls to Verizon about this. Each time receiving a different explanation for what it could be. Basically i was told after several calls, that it can be between 30 and 40 mins between times that the gateway checks for new mail. If you go in and check your mail through mobile email at any point, it will RESET that timer. I told the customer support rep, that a 30 to 40 min wait is just not really an ALERT. Not if your waiting for a time sensitive email. I tried putting their theory to the test, and still didnt receive alerts until HOURS later, if at all. I finally gave up on mobile email and went with Vemail. An EXCELLENT alternative.
