USB760 low signal

My company provides wireless internet via Verizon wireless with the USB760. The trouble is the internet keeps dropping. It is a real pain when you logon to VPN then through the firewall and maybe get 3 minutes before the whole thing drops. I am wondering which of the internet cards has the best service coverage?

Have you checked the connection signal strength through VZAM? Also what about checking for firmware updates for the device.

My USB760 works great. Maybe you need an antenna.

Thanks for your answers! I do know signal strength is not ideal with -89 (2/3 bars) and that is my question. I have updated the firmware and roaming for the card as of yesterday. I do not see on the web site that the USB760 is VPN compatible? I can stay connected all day if I do not use VPN or the external firewall login, Thus my question, which of the air cards provide the best signal coverage?

I have also ordered a Wilson repeater to try, but am also wondering if a upgrade of air card is warranted?

If you stay connected all day when you do not use the VPN, then the problem is probably not with the USB760. Have you check with administraor or you work IT department to make sure this is not a security setting of the VPN? It may be set to disconnect you when it sees no traffic for a period of time.

I live in an area so remote that I can only get 2G access (NationalAccess). I have a Willson amplifier with external/internal antenna, but even when that's not turned on, I can access my work network through VPN with no problem, even with 0 bars of signal strenth. So I agree with the other poster, it sounds like the problem is with your VPN, not with wireless access through your usb760. If your company provides the usb760, is anyone else having a problem?

I just received the USB 760 modem. I can stay connected with it, but when using my company's VPN, the connection drops very quickly.

Others within my company are able to use their Verizon connection and the VPN without any problems. But they are using an older version of the Access Manager. I have tried to download an older version, but there does not appear to be any way to locate other versions on the website.

Our IT department has told me that no changes have been made to the VPN structure, and that other users have reported issues after their Access Manager software has been automatically updated.

Is there any way we can test an older version with our VPN software? We are using Aventail.

That would not surprise me. It seems they do not test VZAccess manager very well before they release it. I have had issues with my BlackBerry after installing new versions on VZAccess manager.

What version are you running now? You can find that by:

- Open up VZAccess Manager

- Click the "help"

- Select " About VZAccess Manager.."

This is a site that may give you a little information on Windows OS and VPN's while using MB. There is also a link to netsh commands to possibly fix the issue.

Not sure if this is relevant or even slightly helpful, but it's a start to at least find the possible cause of the issue.

Also, verify the VPN information in VZAccess Manager and Internet Options match.

The following VPN clients may have compatibility issues with NDIS 6.2 WWAN miniport drivers:

•         Cisco VPN
•         Nortel VPN
•        Sonic Wall VPN

A workaround for this issue would be to install DriverInstaller Build 2514 , which uses NDIS 5.1 drivers that may be compatible with Cisco VPN 5.0 and other VPN clients. With your Watcher software already installed, run driverinstaller.exe to overwrite the drivers loaded with Watcher or use Tools->Options->General->Synchronize with Mobile Broadband Connection. Set “Windows 7 Mobile Broadband” to disabled, which is the default setting in recent Watcher versions.

Alternatively, you can use Dial-Up Networking (DUN) connections, which are not affected by this problem.
