EMAIL Concerns switching from Blackberry

Hello All-

I have used a blackberry for 4 years now and at this time, i just want to move on. The Droid X looks like a great phone but i am hearing that my email will be an issue. My Mail is hosted by GO DADDY. I called their support and they said that it should not be an issue using the droid x, as they have techs there that use it also.

Does anyone have issues with their mail. getting, receiving etc...

I use IMAP and the blackberry has been pretty good until recently, im also starting to drop alot of calls...

So my question is this...

1. do they have apps in the droid app store for mail?

2. Can i sync my CALENDAR and CONTACTS from OUTLOOK 2010 without using exchange?

Also, how do i get on the app store... i cant seem to log onto it...

The device can sync with outlook. There is a Go Daddy.com mobile application available on the Droid X and a hotsync app that will allow you to sync with outlook. There are other apps for mail as well. In order to sign into the Market place, you will need to setup a Google account. Have you done so? If not, the steps are below. HTH!!

From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located at the bottom of the display).
Touch Gmail.
If adding an additional (secondary) Gmail account, navigate Menu button > Accounts > Add account > Google from the Inbox.
Touch Next.

Touch one of the following options:

Create

Enter the following information then touch Done (located in the lower-right).

First name
Last name
Username

Touch Next.
From the Type a password and Confirm password fields, enter a password then touch Done.
The password must be at least 8 characters.
Touch Next.

Enter the appropriate information into the following fields then touch Done.

Security question
- Favorite food?
- City of birth?
- Best childhood friend's name?
- High school name?
Answer
Secondary Email
Touch Create.
Review the Google Terms of Service then touch I agree, Next to continue creating the account.
Enter the appropriate characters then touch Done.
Touch Next
If presented, touch Finish setup.
Once you have done so. You will need to follow the steps below to sign into the Market place.
From the home screen, touch the applications tab (located at the bottom of the display).
Touch Market.
If presented, review the Android Market Terms of Service then touch Accept to continue.
Touch Apps.
Touch a category (e.g. All applications, Comics, Communication, etc.).

To sort the list, touch one of the following:

Top paid
Top free
Just in

Touch an application / widget such as:

Widgets
If there is a charge for the application, touch Buy.
If the application is free, touch Install.
Touch OK.
Review the alerts for access. If they are not acceptable touch Cancel.
If applicable, ensure the desired card is selected then touch Buy now.
If a payment method has not been established, enter the credit card information then touch Save.

Could you tell me what app I need to get in order to sync with Outlook?

Hmmmm.. no, if the app you are thinking about for hotsync to outlook is called "outlook sync client" from Avamboo UG, i think you better read the reviews....i have too many contacts and my business runs off them for me to risk this....

if there is another sync client, please let me know asap so i can start getting my email and contacts with outlook.... if you are speaking about that email client, please also tell me so then i know i will need another way to get my mail...

ok, found it but i cannot get it to work....am i doing something wrong?

I am in the same situation. There are currently no Outlook 2010 Contacts and Calendar sync solutions for Outlook 2010 (non-exchange version) that I could find except for one: Companionlink for Google. What you do is this:

1) install CompanionLink for Google (+/- $35) on your computer,

2) setup a google account (you don't have to use this for your email),

3) Your outlook contacts and calendars will sync with Google in the cloud,

4) When you set up your Droid X for the first time, you'll enter in your google id/password and the contact and calendar will sync and use the native google apps that come with the phone.

I am having a lot less luck with my GoDaddy IMAP email however. It seems that I can get an initial sync when I set up the accound, but after that, I cannot receive email. I can send no problem (but I cannot view my sent folder as it will not sync).

If you have any solutions for this, I am all ears.
